  • Good air flow, remote sucks, pretty quiet at highest speed
Size: OSCR37 – 37" Style: Standalone
The OSCR37 was bought after returning the Vornado 184 (That fan was had a whine that literally hurt my ears). For a fan this size, it has a very good air flow. Even with the fan speed set to 1, a nice wind was felt ~10 ft away. At fan speed 4, it is not loud, but it does have a hum near the 3kHz and 4kHz range. It is noticeable but not to point where it's painful. The circulatory claims does seem to be true. The fan was set to oscillate and then stationary, surprisingly the stationary (circulation) actually felt cooler. The loudness of the fan is not that bad (measured ~10ft away): fan 1 - ~50dB fan 2 - ~53dB fan 3 - ~56dB fan 4 - ~60dB For people who are sensitive to high pitch sound, this fan is OK (measured ~10ft away): fan 1 - there was barely any changed on the high frequencies fan 2 - the 1kHz and 2kHz starts to increase. Most of the change was in the 1kHz to 1.5kHz range fan 3 - The 1kHz to 4kHz increase. The 3kHz to 4kHz is small relative to the 1kHz to 2kHz fan 4 - Surprisingly, barely any increase in the dB for the high frequencies I did do a spectrogram, not much to say about it but the density was a nice gradient as the fan increases. This mean if people want to use the fan for white noise, it is pretty good. On the highest speed, it was less dense than the 184, which translate to less high frequencies sound. The remote is horrible. The buttons are good, but the IR range is terrible. For the fan to detect a button press, the remote has to line up with the top of the fan (where the IR sensor is locate) For the oscillation, the motion is very smooth. I did notice the time is stays on the left (~2sec) most was shorter than on the right (~3sec). Overall, this is a good fan. If Vornado could cut down the high frequency shift in the 3kHz to 4kHz, it would be better. See all the attach plots on how the fan sounds like. ... show more

  • Real Review in list form with more emotion then descriptive detail. Enjoy

  • Not perfect, but the support / warranty clinched the deal...
Size: OSCR32 – 32" Style: Standalone
This was the third "tower" fan I purchased. The other two were highly rated but they either made too much noise or the remote was too directional / buggy. This one is very quiet on the low setting and moves enough air around to make the room comfortable. If you want a stronger breeze the other two higher settings really push air but they are relatively noisy. Truth is, all of these tower fans are either quiet & weak or adequate and noisy. This Vornado was more expensive than the others, but the long warranty and excellent customer support sealed the deal. If it starts to rattle or break there are actual humans that will answer the phones and the return shipping is free. Who knows how much it would cost to pack & ship one of these. Lastly, this 32" model is a nice, unobtrusive size compared to the others I tried, which were around 40" tall. Oh.. the remote doesn't "beep" either, which can be quite annoying on others... ... show more

  • Overall works well, but a few issues.
Size: OSCR37 – 37" Style: Standalone
The fan is nice overall - it circulates the air well. It is quiet, and the timer and oscillation features are great. It was easy to assemble (snap together the two halves of the base & screw to the bottom of the fan). My main issue was with the remote, which barely seems to work, even at a range of only a few inches. It also seems to be really cheap and noisy/clicky, like you're pushing buttons on a children's toy remote, and I'm afraid to break it. (Swapping out the battery improved it a little - to a range of about 8' - but it still registers the clicks only about half of the time.) Secondarily, the power button is freakishly sensitive compared to the other buttons on the actual fan. The timer button is also fussy and doesn't always register the first time you push it. ... show more

  • Just not what I expected from a Vornado
Size: OSCR37 – 37" Style: Standalone
In the summer of 2020, I was staying at a place without AC, but they had a Vornado. It saved my life. I was so impressed with its level of force! When I looked them up, I thought the prices were very fair with that in mind. So I bought the 5303, which was called a "Small Whole Room Air Circulator Fan." I absolutely love it, and I take it everywhere with me when I travel (not by plane). The only things the 5303 didn't offer that I kept finding I needed were 1) it doesn't oscillate, and 2) there is no remote control. I was doing a lot of work where I'd be across the room, totally buried by my project, and absolutely roasting. I wished time and time again for a remote control that would allow me to reap the benefit of the Vornado sitting on the other side the room, pointing in a different direction. Also (3, I guess), it is on a loud side, at least on medium and especially high. I'm not complaining, but something quieter would make it easier to hear my TV/stereo/etc... on hot nights without disturbing others. I looked at several different models, and finally settled on this one. I liked the height, and I thought if I placed it at about hip-level, it would hit most of the room, especially my upper body for when I'm on my feet working. (Yes, I know you're supposed to set it on the floor. But I considered that a safety issue, not a functionality issue, so I decided I would just be sure it was good and secure, and accept the risk.) Super easy to set up. SUPER quiet. I'm really happy with the noise level. (Note: the reviewer who said everyone who thinks it's quiet must have hearing problems? It seems clear, even from her own words, that her unit was defective!... especially when she then goes on to note the mechanical whine, and that her 20-year-old fan is quieter than this is on even the lowest setting! If my fan is on low, or low-medium, it is SO quiet that I wouldn't even know it was on at all.) The power is just... okay. I mean, it's fine. But this is now my third experience with a Vornado, and the other two models were SO POWERFUL, so I thought they all were. I kind of thought that's what made a Vornado a Vornado. This is just a tall, oscillating fan. And I've tried it both on the floor, and at hip level. The "high" is just not all that powerful, and I mostly don't even bother with the lower levels! Also, the remote sensor is SO FINICKY. And I find it does NOT work well if this is mounted at hip-level. You really have to point the remote directly at the top of the fan. Not only does this kind of suck, but I'm used to the technology these days where you don't even have to point the remote at the device at all! My Firestick works no matter where I am aiming the remote! As do many other things I use. So it's been a long time since I had a remote that needed my aim to be this specific, so it feels antiquated. The remote is also teeny tiny and delicate, and I am very afraid of losing or breaking it. I hope very much that it is replaceable (and at a reasonable price), because I don't see it lasting very long. Anyway, all in all, the fan is fine. The price was fine, I guess. It's just that I could have bought any tall, remote-controlled, oscillating fan (probably for quite a bit less money, actually). I specifically chose Vornado because I have come to expect them to be forceful, and this just... isn't. ... show more
