🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The Vornado Low Profile Transom Window Fan is a compact unit yet provides powerful airflow. The majority of reviewers appreciate its noise level, which ranges from being barely noticeable on the low setting to being similar to a white noise machine on the highest. The product is also designed in a way that leaves more window space for a view. It has convenient features such as a remote control and an automatic temperature control system, but the implementation of some of these features could be improved.

Pros

  • 🍃 Superior air flow despite its compact size
  • 🎚️ Four speed settings to choose from
  • 🔇 Quiet operation, especially on lower settings
  • 🌡️ Automatic temperature control feature
  • 🔄 Reverse air flow capability
  • 🕹️ Includes a remote control for convenience
  • 💡 Detailed power and settings display on the front panel
  • 🪟 Leaves more window space for viewing

Cons

  • 💡 Display only illuminates the on/off button when in run mode
  • 🌬️ Airflow cannot be redirected towards the ceiling or floor
  • 🔋 Settings reset to factory defaults when powered off
  • 🪧 Foam blocks provided for fitting in windows may not fit all windows perfectly
  • 🌞 Some parts of the fan may quickly yellow due to sun exposure

Should I Buy It?

If you're looking for a fan that strikes a balance between compact design and efficient air delivery, the Vornado Low Profile Transom Window Fan is a considerable choice. It's ideal for those who also desire a window fan that does not obstruct their view. However, keep in mind that the fan might not perfectly fit all windows and the settings reset when the unit is powered off. Overall, it seems to be an impressive product with a higher satisfaction rate.

  • A window fan that is ACTUALLY quiet!
Color: Black Style: Remote Control Pattern Name: Fan
My number one priority, in purchasing a window fan, was to get something QUIET. I had spent more money than I would have liked purchasing the traditional two fan window units that are so common today. Based on the promise and supporting reviews that they were very quiet fans, I purchased both a popular Bionaire and a Holmes fan. They were ok, but not nearly good enough. I wanted a fan as quiet as my ceiling fan on low and those two weren’t even in the ballpark. So through more searching, I eventually landed on the Vornado Transom. It’s not a traditional fan by any stretch of the imagination, but a few people said it was extremely quiet. Desperate to find something quieter than the others, I placed my bet. This fan is ACTUALLY quiet! On it’s lowest setting, it is a whisper compared to the other two. No, it’s not ceiling fan quiet, but I would compare it to the sound I’d hear coming through the vent when my central air is running. That’s pretty quiet! On high, yes the fan is much more noisy, but it moves a lot more air when on high. To be clear, low speed moves plenty of air, and high speed is not more noisy than the other models on high. Another difference between the Vornado and the other models, is the the fan speeds are SIGNIFICANTLY different. The difference between low and high on the other models is marginal at best. With the Vornado, low is ACTUALLY low… and high is ACTUALLY high. So you can choose between a quiet fan that gives you a nice breeze, or a noisy fan that moves air with quite a bit of force. Again, this unit on high was about as noisy as the other fans on high. On low, there is no contest. Do you get what I’m saying yet? THIS FAN IS VERY QUIET… MUCH quieter than any other window fan I’ve tried. So that’s the big sell for me. Other good features: The temperature selection works well. I set it up for 70 degrees, and it effectively turned on and off as necessary to bring in the cooler outside air. Since I keep the fan on low, I barely noticed when it turned on and off at all. This fan also gives you great privacy because you can’t see through it whether it’s on or off. A couple of not so great things about it... First, the foam blocks are not great. I needed an additional block that was 1/4 inch wide… I either had to try and squish a 1 inch block in that space (nope) or use something else to seal it. Vornado should rethink this strategy or include 1/2 and 1/4 inch blocks too. Considering the high quality construction of the unit, and the steeper price tag, Vornado should come up with something more eloquent. Secondly, the remote isn’t wonderful. You have to aim it DIRECTLY at the unit while you are DIRECTLY in front of it. And the range of the remote seems to be a pitiful 15 feet or so. I don’t know if that’s typical of this unit, but it’s definitely not great. Despite those two shortcomings, I still give the unit 5 stars based on its EXTREMELY LOW noise level given the decent amount of air it moves. If I ever need an additional window fan, this is the one I’ll get. ... show more

  • Best Window Fan Ever For Efficient And Quiet Home Cooling And Air Circulation!
Color: White Style: Remote Control Pattern Name: Fan
We needed 3 new window fans for home cooling at night during warm and hot months. We have used Vornado floor fans for years, and absolutely love them. Did not hesitate to turn to Vornado again for our window fan purchases. Another hit out of the park for Vornado! Love these window fans. - Sleek appearance taking minimal space. Easy to fit into 26 in - 40 in windows. - Efficient performance, incredible airflow, and very quiet. Very quiet ambient noise even at the highest speed 4. - The unit is easy to handle/lift up and down from window with the handle/carrying indentations on the sides. - As seen in photo, comes with additional hard foam rigid pieces if you wish to make the fan a more permanent window installation. Also comes with a remote control unit. - Unit has both air intake and air exhaust modes. - Can set unit to automatically turn off/on to maintain a set temperature. - Handy instruction manual. The unit overall is very easy to operate. Use note: We do not keep the fan units permanently in our windows. Rather, we place them in the windows at night for night time cooling, and remove them in the morning and close the windows. As such, we are not using the extra rigid foam pieces for a more permanent installation. The fans are very easy to take in and out of the window if you want to use them in a similar fashion. I highly recommend this product. ... show more

  • Damn Good Fan
Color: Black Style: Remote Control Pattern Name: Fan
This is a damn good fan. Heavier out of the box than I expected which is a good thing. Decent build quality, heavy plastic parts. For example the grill doesn't feel flimsy and won't easily be broken. Quiet as a church mouse. Way less noisy than my Bionaire window fan. Throws a mean punch but there is no way to direct the airflow. Fewer moving parts mean less to break but might have an effect on fan placement. I have it in my kitchen window but have to turn it off when cooking with my gas burners because it almost blows out the flames. Cool solenoid controls but TBH I'd prefer a simple mechanical on/off switch. But then again I also have an analog dial tune radio. Installed in front of my screen. Install depth about 2-1/4" , screen depth about 3". I haven't installed the foam blocks, so I can't speak to that but for me they're not really needed. Couldn't care less about the remote. Looks neat and tidy in the window. Overall, a damn good fan but a little pricey. Did I spring for the extra $40 over the $60 I paid for the Bionaire window fan in the bedroom? Yeah I did. Did I have second thoughts about it? You bet. ... show more

  • Great fan but not powerful enough
Color: White Style: Remote Control Pattern Name: Fan
There are so many great design elements here, 5 stars all the way for what it is. Unfortunately, it does not move nearly as much air as a box fan so I may not use it as planned. The highest speed setting is about as powerful as the lowest speed setting on a box fan. It's only as loud as the lowest setting on a box fan as well so that could be good or bad depending on your needs. I've used it two nights and the room stayed very hot. With a box fan in the window, I'm chilly. So this isn't going to work for me. It is a really good fan though, just not for my specific needs/location. It fits well in my window. It comes with various sized foam blocks to stuff into the sides to seal the gaps, I'm not sure this is really necessary at all but they fit right so I used them. With a box fan, the window is wide open so a lot of sound and light are coming through at night. With this fan, you can close the window most of the way and the fan itself doesn't let much light through. That's a big plus. The lights on the dashboard turn off after a few seconds which is great, but the power button light stays lit up. It's bright so I had to tape a black piece of paper over it. I've had to do this with a lot of appliances. It's quite a good looking fan so this really ruins that aspect of it. When will they learn that some people like to actually sleep in a dark room? Bring back tactile power buttons. Touchscreens are not a technological improvement. ... show more
