Stack the pans with the sifting screen on top and fill with clumping litter. When you lift the sifting screen the litter sifts out into the pan, leaving the clumps that you throw away. • These Pans Have a Right and Wrong Direction!
If you bought these pans and they won't sit all the way together, it's because you have one backward. I figured this out with the sifting pan when I was trying to put it together, and with the solid pans when I had cleaned it for the first time. Also, we're using this pan with wood pellets and, at first, it looks like all the pellets just get stuck in the holes, but it actually works right. The pellets dissolve a little when they get wet, and they fall through the holes. True, your cats can't cover their poos, but if you're scooping out the poos daily, there's no smell with the wood pellets unless they just dropped a fresh poo. It looks like this pan isn't great with clumping litter, but once we're done with our current batch I'm switching 100% to pellets anyway. Better smell, no little clay grains all over my wood floors (imagine if it was carpet--ew!!) and cheaper at the farm supply store. Win-win-win. We will be buying a second one of these to retire our old cat pan once the container of clay litter is done. ... show more

  • Best litter boxes ever!
We have four cats and I purchased four of these litter boxes for our home. As a cat lover and someone who has to clean all four litter boxes daily I cannot say enough how easy these are to use and help take away mess and the amount of time to clean your litter boxes. I wish I would have purchased these years ago. Easy to clean. Less mess involved and very cost effective! I would give ten stars if I could! ... show more

  • Good concept
Holes are slightly too big, some wasted litter because of it. For some reason, even with the sides on, my cats still manage to get litter out of the box. Holes too big, box not big enough.

  • Wanted to love, but has a HUGE negative
There are mostly good things to say about this product, but one huge negative that made me rate 3 stars instead of 5. I used to have two big litter boxes, one jump in and walk in, the litter had to be pretty deep for those to work, which was a pain when scooping and changing the litter. My husband and I switched to these thinking the sifting feature would make our lives alot easier. And it does to an extend. One thing we don't have to worry about now is scooping all of the litter to find the clumps. The HUGE negative is that when our cats use it, the urine goes through the grates, and it clumps around the sifter and is damn near impossible to get off. We have tried increasing the amount of litter in the boxes and we have tried scooping first and then sifting, but the litter still clumps around the grates and it is just awful to try and clean. We have to bang on the sifter part to make any headway. And I mean bang, it's loud and sounds like we're going to break the sifter. We have only been able to clear it but completely removing it and hosing it off when we need to. Despite this, we do still use it, but I think it's more for the shallowness, and not the sifter use. Honestly, if you're getting it for sifting, I'd pair it with something else or just pass on it. ... show more

  • Easy to Clean!
I like this Simple-To-Use litter box and how easy it is to clean out the "dumplings" If I may make a suggestion, it would be to make the sides a little bit higher. My goofy cat has a heyday burying his deposits, and sometimes a little litter still ends up on the floor. On the whole, though, very satisfied with my purchase! ... show more

  • Great cat box for pellets!
The sifting top pan makes sifting and removing the dissolved pellets much easier than scooping and sifting that way. The double pan idea works great ! I sift into one and put the lower clean one in it's place while I clean the dirty one then place the cleaned setup back onto it.

  • Great pan for regular clumping litter, not great for pine pellet litter.
I bought this with the hopes of using it with the feline pine pellets (I actually buy the horse bedding pine pellets from tractor supply for 1/3 the price, $6 for 40#s). Anyway, the pine pellets can fall through the sifting grate. This is not ideal since you only want the pine dust to fall through. The litter box is intended for clumping litter and so I gave it 5 stars because it would work great for its intended purpose. I did modify the grate so I could use it for the pine pellets. All I did was take a piece of rabbit fencing (the squares are like 1/4”x1/4”) and cut it to the size of the grate opening. Then I took short zip ties and used those to secure the piece of fencing to the top side of the litter box grate. I zip tied it from the bottom side so when I cut the zip ties off they wouldn’t poke my cats feet. Now the pine pellets can’t fall through, but the dust can. The only problem remaining is that there is not much clearance between the grate and the pan below that collects the dust. To solve this, I am going to cut 4 pieces of 2” pvc pipe about 1” tall and hot glue them to the bottom side of the grate so it creates some clearance for the pine dust to collect in the pan below the grate. I hope this helps. ... show more

  • Not great for clay litter
The sifting feature is not ideal for clay litter. The litter just gets stuck in the grate and creates even more of a hassle to clean. I ended up removing the sifting tray altogether and just using it as a regular scoop litter box. It probably works much better with pellet litter since those just dissolve and fall to the bottom. Other than that, I do like this litter box. I've had it for about a year and it hasn't started to stink or wear down (I do use plastic liners in it though). Overall, I would recommend this litter box if you use pellet litter for your cat. If you use clay litter, you're better off getting a regular one without a sifting tray. ... show more
