I’ve owned quite a few hair dryers in my life, from cheaper brands to salon quality brands, with price points ranging from $20-200+. I wasn’t sure what to expect with the Slopehill Professional Hair Dyer, but I have to say the first impressions are great. Let’s dig into what I love and may not like on the hair dryer. The packaging it arrives in is fairly standard, and upon opening the box, you see the usual attachments and a very sleek hair dryer. While the item description shows it is suitable for travel, it doesn’t fold together like many travel-sized hair dryers. That said, it’s fairly small and lightweight, and I can easily pack it into my suitcase. At .75 pounds, it is light and easy to hold when drying your hair. What blows me away (pun intended) is the amount of power that comes from this small hair dryer. I don’t have super thick hair, but at full power, it dried my hair fairly quickly. The adjustable speeds and heat made drying my hair go fairly fast. They advertise negative ions in the ad, and my hair did come out smooth and looking great, so I’m guessing that feature works well. The included additional tools, such as a large diffuser, are great for my wife, but they aren’t something I think I need for my hair. Since it is a smaller hair dryer, the output is super focused, so the diffusers might help spread the wind a bit better. The dryer is like a wind tunnel as the air forces itself out of the dryer, especially on a high setting. While the highest temperature never got super hot, it was warm enough to make quick work of drying my hair. What surprises me the most is how quiet the Slopehill dryer is, even at the fastest speeds. Most of our older dryers sound like small jet engines, but the main noise from this dryer is the fast wind hitting your hairbrush and hair. It is impressively quiet, which is great if you use it for travel in a hotel room. The hotel dryers always wake up my wife, but this dryer is surprisingly quiet. The main issues I have are with the on/off and setting buttons. They are hard to see and would benefit from a small raised surface around each button so you can feel how to adjust each setting on the fly quickly. If I want to change the heat, for example, I have to pull the dryer away from my head, look for the correct button (they are tiny), and then change the setting. With a raised surface around each button, you could use the feeling in your fingers to figure out which button is where to change settings quickly. I’m also unsure of the current $139.99 price point, as that price is up there with many branded hair dryers with expected performance and quality. Will the Slopehill last as long as some of the more expensive dryers? Only time will tell. All in all, this is a 5-star dryer for me, and I’m impressed. If anything changes, I’ll update the review in the future. Pros: Great size, super quiet for the amount of power it has, and multiple settings make drying my hair a breeze (again, pun intended). I’m extremely impressed with this little dryer. Cons: The buttons on the side need a raised area around them so you can change settings by feel. Comes with the dryer and 3 magnetic attachments. It is lightweight and compact but still powerful. It has 3 buttons. An on/off button, a temperature button and speed button. It has 3 levels of heat and an additional cool option. My hair is really short but sometimes I need it dried quickly. The powerful air and the varied heat settings help with that. My roommate and I both gave this blow dryer a try tonight after it arrived in the mail today. I have to say we were thoroughly impressed by the amount of power packed into such a tiny little package. For her, the only drawback and I have to agree, is that on the high speed setting the unit whistles? I guess it’s because the air intake is so tiny it doesn’t have a lot of room for suction and it creates a whistling noise which can bother those sensitive hearing. Since I didn’t need to use it on high it wasn’t an issue for me. For me, my only issue was that being left-handed the buttons are all in such a place that I was constantly adjusting the temperature and speed settings without meaning to do it. As a left-handed person living in a right handed world this is a problem I faced daily and simply have to learn to adjust accordingly. I’m just letting you know should you also be left-handed this could be something you may wish to think about before making this level of investment. Beyond that this blow dryer is absolutely amazing. It is as light as air. The cord is perfect in its flexibility. It doesn’t get caught on cabinets or drawer handles. It has cable management that if you’re using it for travel keeps it contained so it doesn’t get knotted. I was able to blow dry my hair very quickly. If you happen to be in a place with older wiring, you may see some flickering due to the sheer amount of power in this little blow dryer. The attachments work beautifully to give a nice salon quality, blowout using just this blow dryer and a round brush. Because it’s so light I felt almost no fatigue in my arms and shoulders by the time I was done blow drying my hair with a rough dry and then, taking a round brush to it to give myself a more voluminous look . My roommate has curly hair and so used the diffuser and said she absolutely loved it. The magnet on this that holds the attachments on is incredibly strong. You can actually almost feel it grabbing onto the attachments when they’re more than an inch away if you’re just let your hand go . I hate to say this, but even with the issue regarding my being left-handed and the buttons being in the wrong spot for me this may become my new go to travel blow dryer just because of its size, its weight and its power.
