Description

The Shun Premier line calls to mind as the hand-forged knives of ancient Japan. While each knife still takes at least 100 handcrafted steps to complete, the materials Shun uses are among the most advanced in the industry. Each blade has a cutting core of Shun's proprietary VG-MAX "super steel" to take and hold a precision edge. The layered Damascus cladding supports the core and provides additional stain resistance. Near the edge of the blade where the steels meet, an undulating line is formed, similar to samurai swords using a traditional clay-baking technique. The hammered tsuchime finish acts like a series of hollow-ground cavities to reduce drag. The handles nestle comfortably in the hand, while the embossed end cap adds balance and beauty. Handcrafted in Seki, Japan with a limited lifetime warranty.

  • Absolutely Worth It
Worth every penny. Razor sharp, flawless finishing, and a narrow block perfect for kitchens with less counter space (though the footprint is rather deep for a knife block at ~16.5” from the back of my countertops). I hone the knives weekly with the included honing rod and they’ve all held their edge beautifully after months of daily use. I only wish it had come with the bread knife instead of the santoku. With proper care, these will be heirlooms. ... show more

  • Love em
Super sharp and holds a great edge. Be careful handwashing. Super easy to get cut.

  • The best!
These knives are amazing! The block is longer and shorter than expected and doesn’t fit one of the knives well. Still worth the money! Very happy with this purchase.

  • Great knives, not so great knife block.
Good quality knives that are super sharp and hold an edge for a reasonable amount of tome. The knife block didn’t fit all the knives, one slot was not deep enough for the knife to settle. I had to use a small drill bit and make the slot wider and a bit deeper. Only took a few minutes but I shouldn’t have to modify the knife block after spending $850. ... show more

  • Worth every penny
Should have bought these twenty years ago. They look better than the pictures and perform insanely well! Best feature is lifetime sharpening. Take time to register each blade. Buy the Shun cutting board with it.

  • Chipping on the Nakiri knife after 3 uses.
I purchased the Shun Premier 8 piece knife block set from Amazon on August 11, 2024. I received the product on August 14, sooner than expected. When I opened the package and viewed the knives, I was amazed as to how beautiful and how sharp they were, so I threw my old Schmidt Brothers knives out. Over the next few days I used the nakiri knife exactly three times using a wooden cutting board. After the third use I inspected the edge and noticed a small chip (see pics). I also noticed a few other reviews complaining about this. The knives are super sharp but apparently brittle? Now I am afraid to use the other knives in fear of chipping. I have since fished my old knives out of the trash. My options it appears are to return the entire set or get the nakiri knife replaced? I'd really like to keep these but, at over $800 i'm not sure I can if they are all going to chip. ... show more

These knives cut through anything like melted butter. These knives look sharp and are very effective. Strongly recommend this set of knives.
