  • Superior padlock with good water resistance
Size: 2 1/4 Inch Shackle Clearance Style: Brass, Boxed
This lock replaced a similar Master product, which began to be difficult to open as soon as it had been rained on a few times. This lock, on the other hand, has performed beautifully through bad weather.

  • Solidly Built, Highest Quality, Precise Number Dials
Size: 1 Inch Shackle Clearance Style: Brass, Carded
Of all the different combination locks I've owned, this one is a standout. The case is heavy brass and the shackle appears the same (though it may be brass-colored steel). The numerals on the dials are clearly written, the detents between for a fingernail are deep, the individual dials move smoothly and seem to stop with the number in correct position, not in between. The requirement of a "key" to set the combination, as opposed a keyless type, is no big deal; not many lock combinations are changed after being intially set. Its brass construction gives it a nautical look, which is appropriate, since it secures the lid of my dock box at the marina. The shackle is also ever-so-slightly smaller in diameter to another lock I've used so it doesn't bind in the opening of the dock box latch. I trust its weather resistance will live up to my expectations. It's made in Taiwan and looks to be as solidly built as many of their tools. ... show more

  • Good Padlock - Questionable Customer Service
Size: 1 Inch Shackle Clearance Style: Brass, Boxed
Product: The product is as described...and overall I'm quite satisfied with it thus far. The problems I've had are with regard to the retailer and the manufacturer. If you want to know how that correspondence went, and the answer to some of the questions I asked (re warranty & preventive maintenance), then keep reading. Retailer: I contacted the retailer before purchasing to ask a number of questions, including an inquiry regarding the warranty and how the process would work were I to have a problem with the lock at some point (as I've read in some of the reviews). The manufacturer recommends going through the retailer first...thus the reason I was asking this question. I was told that even though it has a lifetime warranty, that I couldn't expect a $13 lock to last. Sooo then what's the point of the lifetime warranty? It would seem to me that the price of the item is irrelevant to the stated warranty. And why is the company telling me ahead of time that they won't honor the warranty that they agreed to honor when they decided to sell this product? Very odd. Manufacturer: Upon contacting the manufacturer, I asked about what to do if the lock gets stuck and has to be cut off. They told me that that situation is usually because someone forgot their combination. I explained that there are a number of reviews that all make the same claim, and certainly they're not all lying. They decided to sidestep the question time and time again. I also asked about preventive maintenance to ensure that I don't run into the aforementioned problem, and that I do my part to ensure that the locks last as long as possible. They said they would not be held responsible if it was used outside. I pointed out the "all-weather" capability that they advertise. They backed off of that topic a bit, but said I should use a different lock for an outdoor application; sounds like they should change their marketing for the item then. They also recommended that I do not use graphite in the lock -- ever. I asked why they were contradicting the lock packaging which states that you should use graphite and nothing else. Then I was told (don't know if it was a different rep, all the same generic email address) that I should only use graphite. The next response stated that I shouldn't use any lubricant. Then I was told that I could use either graphite or a PTFE-based lubricant. They then said that they're not in the lubrication business and can't be expected to know anything about it. Sounds like they don't even know their own product. I of course inquired as to the disparity between the responses and the packaging, and asked how anyone is supposed to know how to maintain their locks if they themselves seem to be schizophrenic on the topic. They responded that the packaging hasn't been changed/updated in decades, and that the product is nearly a century old and it should work fine. To cut short a very long correspondence (in which I was ignored for weeks at a time and had to contact them time and time again to get a response from them regarding a seemingly simple question) my conclusion is that you should either keep it clean and don't use lubricant. Or you could use graphite or any PTFE-based product (but no oil-based product). They never responded to my last inquiry, but I presume that once you choose to use a product that you stick with it and don't mix products. Pros: Nice Lock, seems to be of good quality Cons: Retailer not too interested in honoring the warranty Manufacturer reps don't know the product. If you do need to contact the manufacturer, look forward to a teeth-pulling escapade where you have to babysit the reps to try and get them to do their job, Conclusion: I've done enough research on this product that I'm fairly confident in the product, and hopeful that if I were to have a problem with the product that either the retailer or the manufacturer, CCL Security, would uphold their warranty and take care of it. Hopefully I'll never find out. But if I do have a problem I'll certainly update this review. Although the product seems to be of good quality thus far, it is often said of a product that it is only as good as the customer service. I sure hope the product is leagues better in this case. ... show more

  • LOVE Special Feature Of These Locks
Size: 1 Inch Shackle Clearance Style: Brass, Carded
We have used this brand of locks, for years, in fact some have been handled so often over time, the brand letters had worn off on the old ones, & I couldn't tell what brand they were. Finally, using a light & strong magnifying glass, I could read enough letters, to figure it out.... & immediately ordered more, for additional needs... The 4 old ones, were still in perfect 'working order', & I just needed more of them, for new purposes, & I wanted he same brand. The numerals are easily seen, & the dials roll easily. But my FAVORITE feature, is that after you've opened the lock, you can quickly roll the dials upward with your thumb, & they all stop on ZERO, so even if someone is with you, with lightning fast action, you can remove your combination, without even looking at the numbers. I always leave the locks, set on those zeros, for safety, & convenience... I can even open one in the dark, knowing each one is starting at ZERO, so I just count the 'clicks' that can be felt & slightly heard. These Sesamee Combination locks can be set to your own personal numbers, & several of ours get daily opening & re-locking, & they have lasted for many years of use, without a 'hitch' .... They are exposed to the weather, but an occasional cleaning & little 'puff' of dry graphite, & they are ready to go for more years of use... best locks we've ever used, & NONE have ever failed us. ... show more
