Early review (Day 2): Arrived quickly and without any damage. Was alarmed at first when I entered the factory code and nothing happened. Maybe I missed that the batteries were not installed (or supplied), but I quickly figured it out. Once I did that, it worked *almost* perfectly. * I hate beeps, so my first modification attempt was to mute the speaker. It didn't work. Turns out the manual is wrong: to mute the beeps, Press 0,P,1; to opt for persistent intrusions into your quiet Zen, no worries - that is the default, unfortunately. But if you really want them, press 0,P,2. Back to the review. Great safe. The lockable internal box is next to useless, but the LED illumination is great. The weight of the safe is reassuring, though if you really want to prevent thieves from carting your safe off to their criminal den, you have to screw it down to the floor, which unfortunately voids the water intrusion warranty. No big deal for me, as I bought this safe to ensure that our valuables are protected when our apartment is shown to strangers. Anyone viewing the property will be with a realtor, and it isn't possible to stow this safe in your pocket without the realtor seeing it, unlike jewelry, cash, and memory cards. Safe is a great size for storing documents or a small amount of valuables. Rated for both heat and water protection (cannot use the lag bolts to secure the safe if you are expecting to maintain the protection from water). Easy to set up two additional combos for access. The unit I received came with a dent in the side, but I attribute that to shipping and not the product itself. Shouldn't affect the unit other than cosmetic, but something to keep in mind if you prefer a pristine unit. The safe is heavy, so shipping company probably doesn't take a ton of care. ****UPDATE***. ***UPDATE*** HERE IS WHAT YOU ALL HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR...ME TOO. Ok...today was the first day we could get into the home. WE FOUND THE SAFE. As you can see in the picture, the safe is completely burned on the outside. Then safe was also a little warped from the high temperature. Keep in mind that this safe has been sitting inside this house, under fire debris for over 2 months. We had to cut into the safe, as the front of the safe was completely melted. We opened up the safe and to our AMAZEMENT, all of the contents were not terribly damaged from the fire. This fire burned VERY HOT. I posted a picture of the fire-proof envelope we used to put a few hundred dollars into it and the money was still there!!! EVERYTHING DID NOT BURN. Now, there is one little issue...the safe took on water after the fire warped the box and water was able to get into the inside of the safe. It is ok...I WOULD BUY THIS SAFE AGAIN (when I can afford another one). People, do not hesitate in purchasing this safe, I am living proof that this safe can fall 15 feet and survive...can withstand a darn hot fire and survive...can somewhat withstand gallons and gallons of water and survive. BUY IT...I am your example. Rhonda. This review will be updated as soon as we can get into our home. I bought this safe a few years ago and really liked it. I had a little cash and used a fireproof envelope to protect the cash and then put it in the safe. The safe was easy to lock and unlock. Really, I would buy it again...but holding onto that thought until we can locate it. On June 13, 2023, our home burned and it is a total loss. The entire living area fell into the basement, so I am hoping the safe made it ok. I am not sure how hot the fire got, but it destroyed everything in its path. I did not see a review like this one, that's why I am writing this review...to let you know the unthinkable happened to me and I will let you know the outcome. Only issue is that it shows money and passports, but because it gets "musty" it's not great for paper goods which is a bit confusing since that's what you generally put into a safe. It also states not good for digital media or photos, which again is a disappointment as that is some of the things I was hoping to put into this, but you don't know that until you get the paperwork, which by then is too late since it's a super heavy item. The digital operation is easy to set to the combination you want and easy to use. When the batteries die, there isn't any kind of warning until you go to open it and it doesn't operate, but that's a non-issue if you keep spare batteries, it's a quick change The desiccant packet should be replaced frequently as it doesn't keep enough of the moisture down unfortunately. Overall, a strong heavy duty easy to use Fire-safe, but could use improvement in some areas so that it can store a bigger variety of items. ... show more
