Steelwater Safes doesn't support it's products & for incomprehensible reasons,misrepresents the content of my communications asking for support as being profane,manufacturing an excuse not only to not provide support but also for being extremely rude,condescending & ultimately hanging up on me every time I called & tried to be heard. The Steelwater keypads fail when the batteries run out. twice this has happened to me.The 1st time they arranged for a lcoksmith to change it. It worked until Dec.2024 when the battery ran out again.The lights came on but the keypad didn't work.So I changed the battery,which is the recommended step when this happens and the battery has been in for a long time.But after changing it,the lights didn't even come on anymore.So i wrote them an Email CONTAINING NO PROFANITY,which was ignored.So i called for support & the above described "conversations" transpired. The company rep on the phone characterized my email as being profane & name calling,even read it back to me & hung up when I tried to respond. so I checked the email in my sent messages and it contains NONE of the Language the person claimed. My email was matter of fact,free of profanity,stated my problem,asked for help & was rejected as were all of my phone calls. ... show more

    • I wish I had spent the extra money and bought their heavier "extreme" version of this safe; their AMHD724228
Although this safe is large & massive, it's not as secure as one might think. There's about a 1/4">5/16" gap around the whole door that would readily allow a pry bar to get a good start. The "1 1/2" solid steel locking bolts" , although large in diameter, only travel out 1 inch max (I measured the travel distance with a caliper). Then inside the door lip, there's another gap around the doorway where the bolts actually make contact with the frame - and that gap is approx 3/8". So that means you really only need to pry the door open about 5/8" to get the bolts to clear the frame. And with the thinner metal of this cheaper variant of this safe, (i.e., mine), I fear it can be pried open more easily than I care to imagine. I wish: 1) They would have at least made the bolts travel in & out much longer. It wouldn't have taken much more effort to design the gearing for more bolt travel. That way a burglar would have to work considerably more to pry the door open a lot more. 2) I had spent the extra money and bought their heavier "extreme" version of this safe, (AMHD724228) At least the heavier variant would be much tougher to bend the "9 Gauge steel with an added 1/4 inch steel plate on the entire door". So: For the money it's not a bad choice - it's insulated & weighs a ton, (well, 900 lbs+contents) - so it's fairly fire resistant & a couple of young burglars won't be hauling it or the contents off easily. But if I had it to do over I would've definitely paid the extra money to get their heavier duty version. I think anybody with a little safe busting experience wouldn't have too much trouble getting into this. I'll just keep my cheaper guns in this safe & my more expensive guns in my other safe, (my other safe is 21 yrs old & made in the USA by another longtime manuf.) And on the plus side, the folks at Steelwater are great to work with & delivery was amazingly fast. Also, when you buy from Steelwater you don't get surprised with a $300>$400 delivery charge that gets tacked onto safes when you buy from the big-box stores. The $1000 safe on sale at the big-box store will cost you $1300>$1400 even if you pick it up at the store. ... show more

This safe is big and heavy but... The paint is peeling off the front after being here less than a year. The paint is pulling away more that the picture shows as I can lift it with my nail. At least another inch and a half. Steelwater safe says they will send me some touch-up paint. [ I guess I'm supposed to get down and my hands and knees with a DA to sand the rust off, prime it then paint.. No matter it won't match and will look like crap. Or I can pay movers to pull this one, package it up on a pallet to send back then pay movers to install a "new" one once sent. So I have a huge safe in my living room that has paint peeling on the front. It is very noticeable. On other notes, the door is very loose, the lights keep falling and the battery went dead in a couple months. ... show more
