The safe is not as heavy or thick as I thought it would be. It is about 12-13 pounds. Due to the holes in the back and the bottom to bolt down, I don't see how this can be watertight or fireproof. It comes with 2 fireproof envelopes but they are only large enough for cash or passports. To set the PIN, press and release the reset key inside (door must be open), then set the PIN. I kept the reset key held down and it didn't work - the instructions aren't very clear. Make sure you test opening/locking the safe with the PIN and the keys. It comes with backup keys if the PIN doesn't work or you forget it (keep them somewhere else). This is meant to be bolted into the wall or floor if you don't want someone to walk away with it, but you should also make sure the safe is hidden in your house. It should definitely not be in a bedroom closet which is where thieves always look. It's good, meets the need, not a replacement for a real heavy bolted safe, but this is something you can install & hide to safeguard some valuables. (I would still maintain a bank safe deposit box for the pricy stuff.) ... show more

Initially, this safe was just fine. Reliable code entry, heafty deadbolts. I especially liked the opportunity to use up to 8 digits in your code. Full disclosure, I bought this protect items from a family member who lives with me, not necessarily from a stranger robbing my home. So I only needed it to withstand relatively low-grade intrusion attempts (this family member would not attempt to break in with any power tools or safe-breaking keys). This safe seemed perfectly sufficient for those needs— until now. Just over three months in, and I’ve discovered that this safe will open with no code or key if it is just bounced gently two or three times on a mattress. Or at least the specific safe they sent me will. In my opinion, this negates any positive attributes because it nullifies its entire purpose AS A SAFE.
