Early review (Day 2): Arrived quickly and without any damage. Was alarmed at first when I entered the factory code and nothing happened. Maybe I missed that the batteries were not installed (or supplied), but I quickly figured it out. Once I did that, it worked *almost* perfectly. * I hate beeps, so my first modification attempt was to mute the speaker. It didn't work. Turns out the manual is wrong: to mute the beeps, Press 0,P,1; to opt for persistent intrusions into your quiet Zen, no worries - that is the default, unfortunately. But if you really want them, press 0,P,2. Back to the review. Great safe. The lockable internal box is next to useless, but the LED illumination is great. The weight of the safe is reassuring, though if you really want to prevent thieves from carting your safe off to their criminal den, you have to screw it down to the floor, which unfortunately voids the water intrusion warranty. No big deal for me, as I bought this safe to ensure that our valuables are protected when our apartment is shown to strangers. Anyone viewing the property will be with a realtor, and it isn't possible to stow this safe in your pocket without the realtor seeing it, unlike jewelry, cash, and memory cards. Safe is a great size for storing documents or a small amount of valuables. Rated for both heat and water protection (cannot use the lag bolts to secure the safe if you are expecting to maintain the protection from water). Easy to set up two additional combos for access. The unit I received came with a dent in the side, but I attribute that to shipping and not the product itself. Shouldn't affect the unit other than cosmetic, but something to keep in mind if you prefer a pristine unit. The safe is heavy, so shipping company probably doesn't take a ton of care. TL;DR: Finally decided to invest in a home safe, and this SentrySafe exceeded my expectations. Despite a minor dent on arrival, it's a reliable and secure choice. If you're anything like me, you've debated getting a home safe for ages. I've done the research, eyeballed them in stores, and scrutinized the prices repeatedly. It's a back-and-forth dance that lasts way too long. But I've finally taken the plunge with this SentrySafe, and I couldn't be happier. Let's address the elephant in the room first - the safe arrived with a nasty dent (see picture). It's a bummer, but it doesn't affect the safe's core function. Plus, it doesn't impact the fire and water rating. Amazon's customer service offered replacements, refunds, or a discount, but I opted to keep it. Now, onto the fun part! Grab four AAA batteries and keep your documents far away from the safe - don't lock them inside! Trust me; it's a headache you don't want to deal with. Follow the owner's manual, and you'll have this baby up and running in no time. My safe came with lag bolts for floor mounting, but keep in mind, that voids the water-resistant warranty. I'm not too concerned since I don't live in a flood-prone area. Inside, you'll find a lockbox that I absolutely adore. It helps keep things organized, and I've even ordered another one. The LED lights that illuminate the interior are fantastic, and you can program them to stay on for your preferred duration. The keypad is user-friendly, with an audible beep for each key press (you can turn it off). The door opens and locks smoothly, and there are small bins inside the door, key hooks, and ample space for documents. In conclusion, this SentrySafe was well worth the wait. Only issue is that it shows money and passports, but because it gets "musty" it's not great for paper goods which is a bit confusing since that's what you generally put into a safe. It also states not good for digital media or photos, which again is a disappointment as that is some of the things I was hoping to put into this, but you don't know that until you get the paperwork, which by then is too late since it's a super heavy item. The digital operation is easy to set to the combination you want and easy to use. When the batteries die, there isn't any kind of warning until you go to open it and it doesn't operate, but that's a non-issue if you keep spare batteries, it's a quick change The desiccant packet should be replaced frequently as it doesn't keep enough of the moisture down unfortunately. Overall, a strong heavy duty easy to use Fire-safe, but could use improvement in some areas so that it can store a bigger variety of items. ... show more
