Best and cleanest watering solution I’ve found for my chickens!! I don’t like nipple waterers because I don’t feel like they get enough water. I don’t like the cup ones that require the bird to peck a yellow tab because again, they won’t get enough water due to them having to do some weird task. I feel like they will give up before hydrating enough. These cups are awesome though. The water is right there and accessible all the time. The cups work by filling automatically until the weight of the water closes the tap. No overflowing and water is always there! Before buying these, I was just using an open 2 gallon bucket of water. They would get it dirty and poop in it, but I’d just change the water daily. Meh. My one small complaint is the cups themselves aren’t easy to clean while attached to the full bucket of water. I can’t turn and pour them out, and bouncing and splashing the cups doesn’t really work. I just sort of scoop at the water dishes to remove the sand or bedding out of the bottom of the cup, which works well enough. They really don’t get that dirty, just the stuff that happens to be in the hens beaks when they take a sip. These are also VERY easy to install. It takes a couple of minutes to drill holes and screw them in, and there is no leaking at all. I used a brand new Home Depot bucket with a lid. Tip: place the lid lightly on top of the bucket so the water can flow freely into the cups. With an airtight lid, a vacuum will form inside the bucket and not allow water to flow. Another option is to drill a very small hole into the lid to just allow a little air. Rent-a-coop also included a spare watering cup!!! They didn’t even advertise it, so I was so pleased to see they just give you an extra just in case!!! Awesome waterer and an awesome company. These have made keeping water for my chickens much easier!!! I no longer need to refill their waterers every day. I installed these on five gallon buckets. And yes they are VERY easy to install. However, the instructions will have you install them about one inch from the bottom of whatever container you choose. I recommend installing about 2 inches from the bottom. If you don’t, the cups will rest on the ground forcing them up which causes them to leak. Also, you will need something to raise them up off the ground or coop floor to keep them from leaking if you don’t install the cups high enough. there are times I just need to place them on the ground or coop floor and I can’t do that. So I have to place the buckets on top of cinderblocks. I will have to purchase more buckets and reinstall these cups higher. But, the cups work great!!! They are durable (I’ve bumped and banged them a few times and they haven’t broken.) they are easy to clean, just rotate them to dump any dirty water and then rotate them back into position and you’re done. I really love that they refill automatically and there’s no water wasted or dumped over daily in the coop. I purchased these for my chickens but my dogs love drinking out of these also, so they could work for dogs also! Great product and I would definitely purchase again. ... show more

Didn't receive the extra cup :( which is a bummer. Took a star off because of that. Otherwise, looks like it is an excellent product, performs as intended. We tried all kinds of different waterers, but right now this one is out favorite. When ready to build another cage will consider buying another set. We are using it for quail. ... show more

    • Drill the hole HIGHER! otherwise great product

DO NOT follow the instructions for the height! Measure your drill hole at least at 2 inches!!!! I just installed these yesterday. Sadly I followed the instructions :( and drilled all the holes in 3 different 5 gallon buckets at 1 inch, as the instructions said to do. When I then installed the first cup, I noticed that the cups are higher than one inch. That means you can't set your bucket on the ground. I found a paver to raise them off the ground just a bit but it makes the whole thing less solid. Otherwise, they work wonderfully. I just wish I would have drilled the holes higher. Lesson learned for next time! ... show more

These work...okay. I installed them in a 5 gallon bucket but you need to be careful when doing so. If you mount them too low in the bucket then the cup will rest on the ground/bend before the bottom of the bucket touches the ground. 2nd, the "removable" insert for easy cleaning isn't the easiest to remove for whatever reason. On top of that, dirt and poo manage to get past that liner so even if you do get it out, there is still stuff in the main part of the cup that you need to wash out. It's a good idea, just not implemented in the best way. 3rd, if it's going to be below freezing where you are, you can pretty much forget about using these in a bucket sort of setup. Even if you place the bucket on a heater the water in the cups themselves will freeze. If you aren't in a climate where this is possible then this should be a nonissue for you. Overall, they are okay and 3/5 seems like a fair review. ... show more
