I've hatched 100's of chicks and tried about a dozen different chick feeders and waterers. The feeder: the threaded top actually locks on the base right and secure. Every other chick sized feeder has a different design and the top pops off the base easily. This has a good capacity and it's easy to fill. The waterer: slightly larger capacity than other chick waterers. The slide lock is great. The adjustable legs let's me lift the water just high enough that it doesn't get filled with bedding, but low enough for newborn chicks to reach it. Overall, I can't be happier with this product. I used these when my chicks were tiny and it worked great in the brooder. Now that my chicks are bigger I have a larger feeder and waterer in our chicken run area. But I threw these in the coop area and every night when the chickens go to bed they run over and eat for a while. So I’m glad I keep getting use out of it. The legs that raise the waterer up are great. They are sturdy and work well for smaller chickens. When they get larger they can knock it over. ... show more

Love the fact that the waterer has legs so you can raise it as the chicks get older. The feeder is great as well as it makes it so there is less mess in their feed from the bedding they always tend to kick around. The only flaw is that the tops are almost flat and the chicks like to jump up on them and then they tend to either poop in the water/food or if your brooder box doesn’t have tall sides, they can easily jump out as they get older. Other than the latter, this is a great set for your chicks and would be a five-star product if they came with a cone shaped attachment to place over the top to prevent chicks from perching on top. ... show more

I used both of these for my baby chickens and they work great. They are the right size for raising chicks and the stand for the water is helpful to keep it clean. No leaks and very stable. I did raise them up on bricks as my chicks grew to keep them clean!

The water dispenser is great, the little feet made a big difference with my chicks not getting shavings and droppings in the water. However, the food container easily came apart, often when filling it or picking it up and was more of a hassle than the metal one I have. I will keep it as a backup for when chickens are sick and isolated, but if this is a new purchase for you, I'd look for one where the base is more secure to the part that holds the food. ... show more

I got these for ducks, so while they were small, it was perfect. As they get larger, their beaks' may not fit in the water trough, but by then you should probably switch over to a bucket because they tend to play in the water when it's down low anyway. And remember to extend the 3 legs for more elevation or uneven surfaces like grass- it'll dig in better. When it's on something like concrete, I think it works best with the legs retracted.
