  • Great winter waterer
Size: 2 Gallon Style: Single
The media could not be loaded. This waterer hasn’t frozen even with a week of -10. The hens stayed hydrated all winter long, and I was happy that it’s a top fill and you can refill it easily by remove the lid. Super easy to clean, and the hens figured it out in minutes. Hoping it lasts us for years to come. Great product, would recommend to any chicken owners with freezing temps ... show more

  • No rust
Size: 3 Gallon Style: Single
I bought this product due to the reviews. I found it to meet the advertisement. It held of fine over winter and never allowed the water to freeze. The only issue I have with it is the unit sometime comes apart after filling (top and bottom separate on its own). I fixed mine by adding a screw so the unit could not be separated. When cleaning is required I simply remove the screw and then replace. Unit meets the needs of three chickens for a week before refill is necessary. After reviewing other watering methods I may choose to go another avenue in the future so there would be less need for refilling. ... show more

  • Good size waterer for backyard chickens
Size: 2 Gallon Style: Single
Old waterer cracked, and this one looked like a good replacement since it has the heated base we like for Kentucky winters. I love that it fills from the top, unlike our old one. I admit, I had to replace a couple of the water dispensers with little cups that auto-fill as my chickens just could not figure out how the pressure dispensers worked. These did fit into the holes that are already there. It was warm when I got this, and it 90 degrees now, so I can't comment on the heater. Love the lid, and even with my modification, there's a lot less dirt and sand in the water. We have it sitting on an inverted flowerpot, but the handle is sturdy and will readily hold the filled contained from a hook if that is convenient. ... show more

  • So far so good
Size: 2 Gallon Style: Single
I switched because the open waterer kept getting filled with bedding. I bought at the end of winter so can't say how it would hold up in sub-zero temperatures (I live in Wisconsin), but it didn't freeze in temps that dropped into the teens over night. My chickens took a very long time to learn to use it - I watched every video I could find and read blogs, nothing worked. It took a good few weeks before they figured it out. Giving it 4-stars because I don't know how it will hold up to prolonged sub-zero temps yet. Pros: - No more bedding filled water every day - massive pro! - The heating element doesn't seem to vaporize the water so I don't need to fill it constantly when heating element is going - Easy to remove lid that chickens don't seem to try to roost on Cons: - Because the lip isn't that large my chickens do end up spilling quite a bit of water so the bedding around it gets wet (much better than the other problem of having bedding in the water) - I don't think this is a big deal, but wanted to mention it for others - The heating cord can't be detached when it isn't in use - The heating cord is very short in my opinion Unknowns: - Will it hold up to sub zero winters in WI? I don't know yet ... show more

  • Awesome!!
Size: 2 Gallon Style: Single
I have tried many chicken water contraptions, and this is the first that works the best it doesn’t freeze in the winter cause I have it plugged in and the cord can be wrapped around and zip tied to keep it out of the way in the summer. It only took me a few minutes to show the chickens how to get water from it and all seven of my girls love it, some copper in it about 6 inches long to keep from Algae starting up in it ... show more

  • It's been two-ish years and it's going into it's third winter RECENT EDIT ADDED ON BOTTOM
Size: 2 Gallon Style: Single
I love this waterer. I held off doing a review because I needed to see it stand the test of time. 2022/2023 will be it's third winter since I've owned it. It keeps water thawed. It does exactly what it's supposed to. My chickens use it with ease. A simple tip to help people who's chickens have never used a nipple waterer before: take away all other sources of water and only provide this. Even take your finger or a stick and poke the metal nipples so that water comes out (make sure you have at least ONE chicken watching). They'll get it. But if you have ANY other waterers, they will never use this. So don't start this waterer if you have small chicks or it's 98°F outside. A cool spring or fall day. They'll get it. Edit on 11/18/2022: at some point, I must have gotten the base wet. Our first official freeze and the waterer didn't thaw. I didn't notice for 3 days. Went into the coop to refill the waterer and noticed the water line hadn't moved. Opened the lid and it was solid ice inside. Took it in the house, unscrewed the base, lifted the bottom off, and saw ice. The base isn't sealed off in any way, so when I washed the inside over the summer, water must have gotten in and I didn't notice. Froze the whole heating element and now it's garbage. Super sad about it. And now they're, like, $25 more than when I originally purchased. Took away 2 stars for the designing of the base. Not water-proof in any way. Edit - 01/06/2023: my husband and I took apart the base on 11/18/2022. He fixed the corroded parts, we dried the entire base, let it sit with a fan pointed on it for OVER 24 hours, then put it all back together. And it worked. It worked through multiple freezes. It was awesome. I check it every morning, though, so I know my chickens have water. Checked it on 01/04/2023, and it was frozen solid. So now I'm thinking it's condensation instead of ANY fault of mine. That base was bone-dry when we put it back together. Heck, the whole thing was dry. The base is extremely faulty and is the entire reason why this waterer is garbage. We won't purchase a new one and will figure out something else. ... show more

  • Love this waterer
Size: 2 Gallon Style: Single
We have had several waterers in our coop and this is by far a favorite for winter! We had no issues with the water or the nipples freezing this winter. I love that it has a lid so that none of the dirt and dust gets in the water. However if a chicken on occasion lands on the lid they can knock it off, but over the entire winter I think it only happened a handful of times and that was when we didn't refill it soon enough. The only thing I wish is that you could unplug the cord right from the bucket so you could dump and fill it easier. I just ended up using a watering can which held the same amount to refill it. ... show more
