  • Doesn't freeze in midwest winters
Size: 2 Gallon Style: Single
Once the chickens finally figured out how to use this it is a life saver for our cold midwest weather. The large top makes it easy to clean and refill, you can see the water level through the plastic and the chickens seem to get a kick out of using this for a water source. It might take some effort to teach them, I tapped the waterer with a thin stick while they were watching. At first they went for the water on the ground but soon the shiny object movement was too intriguing to not peck at. Once one got it, the rest were all onboard. ... show more

  • Excellent
Size: 2 Gallon Style: Single
I never leave reviews but this waterer deserves one. It solved ALL my chicken watering issues (yes, I had many with my old one). The only struggle was that I DID have to “teach” my hens how to use this. But that only took about a day of me going outside every few hours and holding their little beaks to the dispenser so they could see that water came out. I know that sounds like a pain but the time it has saved me ever since was way worth the time it took me to teach them. This waterer stays cleaner because my old water dispenser the hens would sit on top of it and poop into the tray that the water came out of. Gross and very difficult to deal with in the winter! Additionally, this waterer is way easier to fill. Since it has a lid, all I do is bring a jug of clean water out with me in the morning and fill. I no longer have to unplug a waterer and bring it inside to fill it! I’ve had it for a few months now and so far, no issues. Very happy with it. ... show more

  • It's been two-ish years and it's going into it's third winter RECENT EDIT ADDED ON BOTTOM
Size: 2 Gallon Style: Single
I love this waterer. I held off doing a review because I needed to see it stand the test of time. 2022/2023 will be it's third winter since I've owned it. It keeps water thawed. It does exactly what it's supposed to. My chickens use it with ease. A simple tip to help people who's chickens have never used a nipple waterer before: take away all other sources of water and only provide this. Even take your finger or a stick and poke the metal nipples so that water comes out (make sure you have at least ONE chicken watching). They'll get it. But if you have ANY other waterers, they will never use this. So don't start this waterer if you have small chicks or it's 98°F outside. A cool spring or fall day. They'll get it. Edit on 11/18/2022: at some point, I must have gotten the base wet. Our first official freeze and the waterer didn't thaw. I didn't notice for 3 days. Went into the coop to refill the waterer and noticed the water line hadn't moved. Opened the lid and it was solid ice inside. Took it in the house, unscrewed the base, lifted the bottom off, and saw ice. The base isn't sealed off in any way, so when I washed the inside over the summer, water must have gotten in and I didn't notice. Froze the whole heating element and now it's garbage. Super sad about it. And now they're, like, $25 more than when I originally purchased. Took away 2 stars for the designing of the base. Not water-proof in any way. Edit - 01/06/2023: my husband and I took apart the base on 11/18/2022. He fixed the corroded parts, we dried the entire base, let it sit with a fan pointed on it for OVER 24 hours, then put it all back together. And it worked. It worked through multiple freezes. It was awesome. I check it every morning, though, so I know my chickens have water. Checked it on 01/04/2023, and it was frozen solid. So now I'm thinking it's condensation instead of ANY fault of mine. That base was bone-dry when we put it back together. Heck, the whole thing was dry. The base is extremely faulty and is the entire reason why this waterer is garbage. We won't purchase a new one and will figure out something else. ... show more

  • Good waterer
Size: 3 Gallon Style: Single
This is the third waterer i have bought. They have lasted very well and I've had no problems with them. Where I live, it gets very cold and this waterer has always kept the water unfrozen.

  • Wonderful equipment
Size: 3 Gallon Style: Single
This will be so helpful this winter. I won’t have to crack the ice in the water for my hens. My hens will be happy to have access to water without waiting for me to tackle the ice! I wish I had gotten this last winter!

  • Worked great for 13 months...
Size: 2 Gallon Style: Single
Worked as advertised for 13 months. Liked the fact that you could refill it with out taking it down. Appears that water (from the weather, not the bucket) got into the base and fried the element. Am buying a second one, but will caulk the seams to try an avoid a repeat.
