I haven't seen many electric inserts to say how this compares for realism. I do know that the top-rated inserts are much more expensive, and that this insert is both well-made and it looks surprisingly good both for the fire effect and the hardware. The glass door panels along with the mesh screens add add substance and realism. The look of the fire is good enough that I feel "placebo" heat when it's on. The built in heater can take the edge off the chill if our small living room is feeling cool. The one weakness for me is the fire sound effects. The sounds are too high-pitched and too metallic sounding to my ear (like sound within an oil drum). I'm sure that the speaker is pretty tiny and therefore "tinny". The quitest of the availale sounds is acceptable, but I prefer to turn the sound off. I did need to use some 1/4" thick plastic spacers to get the face frame to line up with the tile surface of our mantel, but since the insert is relatively light and there's no heat to worry about, you can do any needed shimming easily. ... show more

Arrived days before it's scheduled delivery date,beyond expertly packed,whiteout any damage to report.This insert is as close as you can get to a real fireplace,at this price.Aside form the "net zero" that's being sold at a price way over my budget for a similar item.However I'm extremely happy with my decision to purchase the Puraflame Klaus model,as it looks amazing and works like a dream.Better than a previous model I purchased, which only had one crackling effect that was annoyingly loud and unrealistic,including the additional sounds of ocean waves and chirping birds, which have nothing to do with a fireplace.The Pura flame provides several different crackling sounds each at a pleasingly auditable level and very realistic.Constructed amazing well this product was made to last and with proper care should be able to endure much use.Having the ability to heat a room quickly,using the latest infrared technology which is both cost effective and efficient.This fire place must been seen to truly appreciate the masterpiece that it really is,as it has an ability to make anyone forget that it isn't real. Although spring is here, I've used it every single night for the relaxing pleasure it provides.However I do wish that a timer setting was installed,like competing models,since I usually run it before bed. The media could not be loaded. I've been looking at electric fireplace inserts for a while and this price point was at the top of my budget. I had an Amazon gift card to help with cost and decided on this model with mostly excellent reviews. I'm so glad I chose this one! First, it arrived several days earlier than the estimated delivery date, yay!! It came extremely well-packed and was easy to unbox and locate all the essentials. It is sturdy, made with metal and glass, so I wasn't nervous about handling it to get it unpacked and positioned in my fireplace. I knew some minor prep was needed because the best-fitting unit was a little short for my fireplace opening. I cut a 2x4 board segment and sprayed it flat black (and added another short piece behind it for a level base) to sit under the flat bottom. This easy fix works and blends in perfectly. Also, I needed the power cord to extend from the left side to reach the nearest outlet, and there was plenty space behind the housing to conceal most of a 6ft heavy-duty extension cord. The front trim is perfect and I half-expected the little grate that covers the controls to be plastic, but it is metal like all the black trim. I was so excited to get it plugged in....and yes, the "fire" is remarkably satisfying. While it's true it won't fool many (I grew up with a wood burner), it's easy, clean, safe, non-smelly, and gives a cozy ambiance to the room. There are enough crackle sound choices to find one to suit me and while I don't use the heat function, it's nice to have the option. There is a low hum to the unit when it is running, even without the fan going, but I already don't notice it anymore. I've had it almost a month now and I still LOVE it. My mom visited the first afternoon it was in and thought I'd had gas logs installed, lol. She was pretty impressed it was electric and a total illusion! The details that really sell it are the nice glass doors and the little safety chain curtain that looks far superior to the flat glass panel on the front of other models/brands. Noting another buyer's concern about the unit tipping out when glass doors are open, I used a bead of hot glue to secure the top edge trim to the tile behind it. My plan B was to apply a couple strips of extra strength velcro, but the glue appears to be doing the trick. Plus, there's been no need to open the glass doors once installed. The fit of the trim kit was perfect, and the electric fireplace is absolutely beautiful! I love using the remote, as well as how easy the setup/install was. Only con to the whole thing is that this electric heater doesn't put out as much heat as others we've used in the past. I read 1500W is the same heat output as every other 1500W heater, so I was sad to see this wasn't the case. Maybe the fan doesn't blow quite as strong for this unit. However, it is a beautiful fireplace, and overall I am very happy with the product! ... show more

Far more realistic than I expected. Fooled two people so far. Embers are fantastic, and while you can tell flames are fake if your stare at them, in general the brain accepts it as real and it is very shoothing. Seems very well built too. I wish the sound had less loud crackles, as not as shoothing, so we will run in quite mode. Heater puts out real heat (blower sounds like most space heaters, maybe a little quiter). ... show more
