This DVD works great! Hooray!!! I can finally watch my Region 2 DVDs! The picture and sound quality is outstanding, although, I should note that I only use it to play Region 2 discs. I still use my old DVD player for my Region 1 disks. I am delighted with my new Philips DVD player!

I do like a lot. The remote control is easy to use. And been able to play DVDs from other European countries is really great for I have many of those.

    • Region Free With Customer support's help
After spending a frustrating 15 minutes to access the menu to change the region setting, I had given up: the DVD player only played region 2 but not region 1. I had left a negative review. Yesterday the vendor reached out to me and received my response in return; that the DVD player did not play all regions and that I could not access the menu. I got two emails today, the important one is how to access the menu and change the region setting to play region free. It should be explained in the manual, or on a separate note. Here are the instructions I received today: Please try the following: 1. Open the tray 2. Press 2, 2, 2, 2 on the remote control 3. Select region # (0-9 depending on the region of the disc you're trying to play) from the menu that pops up and exit After getting the player to work, it is always stopping and does not play DVDs that work fine in my computer DVD drive. ... show more

    • Decent for cheap
As a quite inexpensive DVD player for which I'm not expecting heavy use this is certainly a decent player. The picture quality at 1080p is just as good as a much more expensive player, as is the audio quality. Where the cost cutting becomes obvious is in the longer scanning/load times and the unexpected loudness of the motor as it moves the lens any distance (though in normal play it's as silent as any other player), and the remote control has spongy buttons that aren't exactly a pleasure to press. Otherwise, though, this DVD player performs just as one would expect it to, it gets the job done, and once the disc is playing it's rather difficult to tell that this is, in fact, a budget model. The region-free feature, allowing DVDs from all over the world to be played, is, of course, the icing on the cake, and an absolute must for me. ... show more

My son requested a series on DVD, which is made in another country. I initially ordered the first season, without knowing that it wouldn’t play in the United States. When I discovered this, I thought we would be stuck with a series that he would never be able to view. Then, I discovered that it was possible to buy a region-free DVD player. Problem solved!     • Plays Region 2, 1, 0 but not restricted Region 1; minimal features
This DVD player worked fine with Region 2, Region-free (aka Region 0), and most Region 1 DVDs that I tried, but it failed to play some Region 1 DVDs claiming the region was incorrect. The unplayables included some TV series released by Sony and Universal. The features are simplistic and there is no A-B repeat, which I had on every other DVD player for years and didn’t realize how much I’d miss it. The player stopped working after 3 years of moderate use. Not a terrible lifetime, but I will be looking for a more fully-featured replacement. ... show more

I am very pleased with my Phillips region free DVD player. I read a lot of reviews on several different region free DVD players & they were almost exclusively negative. But this one had several good reviews & all I can say is I am super happy with mine.
