  • Sounds great, excelkent value
I gad the 500 chicken head version and loved it, it got fried in a lightingstrike. This new version is louder, better looking and sounds great. I use it for a jazz band and also gig with it for an original Rock band. It excels in both. I also run a DI out directly to the board . The combo speaker outs are a plus, tuner works great. The tuner does not mute the DI so beware. Fan is still loud but functions to keep it from crashing so no real complaints. I run it thru either a SWR 4/10 or a Peavey headliner 2/10. Tone shaping is great the knobs do affect the sound in a full spectrum way. The boost switches are all significant as well. If you cant get a good tone from this amp , maybe switch to tuba ... show more

  • Adequate and punchy!
I've been playing local clubs many years. As I get older, I've been looking for an update, a smaller, less weight amp would be ideal. Think I found it. This amp is punchy and great lower responses and tone controls to get exactly what I'm looking for. Psycho-Acoustic Bass Enhancement adds a lot of PUNCH, I like it. Chromatic tuner is very handy and works very well. Powers up my Peavey speaker cabinet with one 15" Peavey BW 1508 4 ohm speaker with plenty to spare. All under 5 lbs. ... show more

  • For the price, it's a great deal
The only thing I dislike about the Peavey Minimax is the loud cooling fan. It's not horrible, but for home use it's a bit annoying, and could have been improved by Peavey with a variable speed fan, or a different design. Of course, you don't hear it while playing. Otherwise, I really like this bass amp head. 350 Watts@ 8 ohms or 600Watts @ 4 ohms for $400. I have had a Peavey bass amp before, and really liked the sound. They seem to have a punch to them that others don't have. And it's under 9 lbs. My Carvin 500 watt head goes close to 50 lbs. That weight saving makes my back happy. ... show more

  • Excellent price point for the product and its usage!
The sound quality and the amp's functionality makes this one heck of a bass amplifier. Although I must mention that the fan is quite loud and annoying after a while.

  • THIS IS AN ATOM BOMB!
This is the most powerful and compact piece of musical equipment I have ever owned. Worth every penny!

  • Fan is LOUD!
This is a great, lightweight head that sounds great! The killer for me (and many other complained) was the cooling fan. It is like a small jet engine. Do you hear it when playing, not so much. In between songs, LOUD! I could not deal with the fan noise and returned it. I would not recommend.
