  • Lightweight, powerful, and so far reliable!
The media could not be loaded. First, I've been a Peavey user for nearly 20 years. I used to do beta testing for their pro audio division on (once upon a time) their first/second generation analog/digital hybrid mixers. Up until buying this amp, all the gear I own has been made in the USA. This my first Designed in the USA but Made in China piece of gear from them. So you can imagine me being skeptical of the quality. My 52lb MAX 700 bass amp wasnt getting any lighter, and this amp looks like it will fit the bill nicely. So far the amp has performed great. I actually got the Mini Mega over the MiniMAX for the extra wattage. 1000 watts RMS at 4 ohms and 700 watts RMS ar 8 ohm load. I run the older TVX series of Peavey cabinets, a 2x10H, 1x15, and 4x10H, each rated at 4 ohms, sort of a rarity now in bass gear since most amps are not rated anymore at 2 ohms load. The newer Class D amps dont like it apparently. To run two of these 4 ohm cabs I needed to make a series/parallel switcher box with combo connectors so the amp sees an 8 ohm load cabs in series. This amp cannot handle a 2 ohm load if I parallel connected them. This was my only unique challenge. The compressor is very handy. Not too sensitive. The semi parametric EQ for the mid range is very versatile. Plenty of tonal variety much like my Peavey MAX 700 bass amp. It has combo neutrik twist lock and 1/4 speaker outputs. That made me happy to have both connectors available. Nice little gig bag it comes with too. The LED light show and backlighting is great extra flare and perfect for dark stages. Knobs feel solid and smooth. Doesn't feel cheap. I do suggest pulling the plastic knob away about 2mm from the face of the amp so it doesnt feel like the knobs rub against it. Small design flaw that can be compensated for. Cool feature is it has an "aux in" to pipe in music to play along to. Great for jamming along. I normally practice this way, but I utilize my studio headphones through the headphone jack when I dont want to shake the walls. Thats another great feature, but it falls short. The op amp for the headphone jack is weak. It cannot drive studio quality high impedance headphones to full volume. Cheaper headphones with lower impedance will drive louder. I use Audio Technica ATH-M40fs headphones rated at 60ohms and 1300mW of power. To compensate for the lower drive power of the Mini Megas HP jack I use an external headphone amplifer, a Douk Audio U3. It adds very little noise and gives me plenty of drive volume. Only other gripe with the headphone jack is that its 3.5mm and not a 1/4" output. The jack is also below the face of the amp and some 3.5mm plugs with a wide body wont fully engage possibly popping out by the spring inside. I bought an adapter for it and it works perfectly. There was no lack of face plate real estate, they should have put a 1/4" jack on there. I posted a few pics of how the adapters fit. The gray adapter wire is the one that works best without issue. I posted a video on the fan noise, and honestly my camera mic is super sensitive, the sound is NOT loud at all. Thats the low speed too. It does speed up when the amp is really working, but you won't notice it while playing loud bass. In a small room practicing its not noticable. The crunch channel like others said is useable, but not the greatest. I got an overdrive pedal for that sound. The Kosmos knobs are actually a very cool feature im really starting to like. The sub octave one is VERY USEABLE! The 2nd "psycho" kosmos feature def works with small cabinets, but to me its just another low end boost. Nice feature still. Finally I did snag the midi footswitch for this amp. Pricey IMO but its a great complement to the amp head's features. Overall the build quality is better than expected, and the tone is consistent with my older Peavey amplifier. I'll update my review as time goes on and I'm able to gig with it to really test it out. This is a later production model so I'm confident any design bugs have been corrected for as the amp has been on the market for a few years. Any questions please reach out here! • Lot of sound for the buck.
Had it for about 3 months, gigged it 4 or 5 times and rehearsed several times with a loud trio. So far, so good. Compared it directly with mesa subway and TC BH800 and it hangs with no problem at 8 and 4 ohms. Clean and clear but not sterile. Two reasons why not 5 stars: The LED lights make a high pitch sound. When it's sitting idle cycling thru the different display colors the pitch changes. It's annoying in a quiet room but not a problem when playing. The pitch is different for each color. It has the option to select a single color so I selected the least offensive pitch and it doesn't bother me (that much). Second, the bag is kind of cheesy. Two side pockets that look suitable for water bottles. Needs a single pocket with zipper so cables won't fall out. But that's it. I tried out the different gizmos (kosmos, comp, etc.) but don't use them. Just turn it on and crank it up. Sounds good and feels good. It's a little bigger than other micros but it's still small and light and packs a punch. I bought it as a powerful backup but end up using it as primary about half the time. ... show more

  • I'm back with Peavey and happy about it.
I got this for a surprisingly low price. This amp is a very versatile head with compression, an overdrive, an octaver, and very thorough eq section. It also has aux in, effects loop, headphone out, and a DI. Everything you expect from a professional level product and more at half the price. Honestly I can live without some of the 'and more' features. I don't need the octave, psycho-acoustics, the compressor, or the overdrive. I would prefer a smaller chassis with fewer superfluous features, but I guess that's what the mini-max is for. This amp gets a classic Peavey sound with a touch of modern smoothness and eq section beyone what's available on most Peavey products. I can dial in most any tone. The two semi parametric mid knobs allow for extreme tone shaping, and you can select narrow Q on either band. This allows for tone shaping that would require an separate eq to get with most other amps. The high power allows for very smooth tone with lots of headroom. This amp is sick. Compared to the smaller Peavey mini max, this is more hifi and offers more headroom. It's higher power rating doesn't necessarily translate to louder volume. It does translate to smoother and deeper, with a richer bottom end. It offers more extensive tone shaping with additional features like optical compression, and it's low frequency enhancer plus octave effect. Frankly, I prefer the raw funky sound of the mini max, but because these heads are both so affordable I bought them both, and use them both very happily. I was expecting to return at last one of them- but no way! I'm keeping them both! This amp is great for upright and electric. The parametric works wonders dialing in our out the frequencies for use with upright. I'm a pro bassist. I'll be using this head on the job, and will report back if I have any problems. So far, I'm thrilled. ... show more

  • One star because NO star isn't available!!!
Brand new, used 1 time for church service (with battery back-up surge protection) great sound! Just started rehearsing again after covid-19 shut downs, turns on, nice pretty lights but NO SOUND!!! Made in China JUNK! Have Peavey equipment from the 80's still works, very disappointed.

  • Great sounding amp, However the put the Vent and fan on top DUMB
I purchased this amp.. Returned it. It sounded fantastic. However they put the vent and fan on top of the head. I am a touring musician.. I also play in a lot of bars and do outside concerts.. Really easy to spill liquid into this and well out door concerts you better check with the weatherman because if you all of a sudden get caught it a rain storm (Happened twice last summer) your amp is toast.. What was Peavey thinking? ... show more
