  • Worked as expected
Color: Silver and Black
This lock worked great for me to lock my cellular trail camera on private land. If someone really wanted to get the camera off the tree, they could with heavy duty cable cutters, but this helps as a little extra deterrent.

  • 3 purposes with one purchase
Color: Silver and Black
I purchased this lock to wrap up a couple bikes to a Bike Rack for a hitch while traveling. My rack is the common style hitch rack where the bikes hang from two bars. This lock serves 3 purposes with one purchase! 1, it’s a very quick an easy way to lock up the bikes to the rack. It’s not Manhattan-proof since it’s just a cable, but it puts you at ease at the gas stations and restaurants. I was even able to protect all 4 wheels of 2 bikes by feeding the cable through. 2, it acts as an incredibly strong tie to make sure the bikes don’t come off the rack while driving. Major redundancy factor here, as you will not need any other cables or bungee cords. I also love the one-way lock mechanism. It allows you to really cinch up the bikes tighter than any rope knot. And 3, Once you are at your destination, you can use the lock again as a normal bike lock when you are out for rides. It’s relatively light weight and can coil up tight enough to fit in a small under-seat bag. Now, as a hitch security, I should mention that you should also have a locking hitch pin. Otherwise, someone could technically throw your entire rack with bikes into the back of a truck in under 30 seconds. And no, a threaded bolt with a nut does not count as a lock. You have just added 30 more seconds to the clock. And the 6 feet cord is not exactly generous when it comes to using this to tie up multiple bikes, but for my purposes, it turned out to be the perfect length. I can tie 2 adult bikes, pushed tightly together against the back of my rack. There isn’t much cable to spare when doing this and I had to be creative with how I weaved it through, but I wouldn’t want the cable to be any longer unless I had more bikes. An 8 feet cable would be nice for 3 bikes. I have engaged the lock and opened it about 50 times with no issues. Sometimes the key is little tough to unlock, but remember that we are dealing with a cam mechanism here, meaning the harder you pull, the tighter it gets. So have some finesse and don’t force anything and it will unlock smoothly. ... show more

  • So Far So Good With These Locking Cables
Color: Silver and Black
I'm reviewing these locking cables based on my experiences in using them to secure trail cameras that are mounted to trees in security boxes (bear boxes) Trail camera theft is a real problem so I do what I can to secure my cameras including lag bolting security boxes to hefty trees, locking the cameras into the box with a big lock and further securing the boxes to the tree with these locking cables. So far so good but for the most part, my cameras are on a farm that doesn't get a lot of trespassers. These are reasonably easy to use, just poke the end of the cable through the hole in the side of the security box and fish it through to the other side. Pull the two ends together, poke the cable through the lock (following the arrow on the sticker.) If you accidentally put the cable through the wrong way it won't lock. Take up the slack and lock it using the key provided. The first two cables I bought work with the same key which is handy. The keys are small and easy to lose so be careful. I keep small items like these in zip lock bags in my pack when checking trail cams (along with AA batteries and spare SD cards.) I'm giving these locking cables a 4 star rating based on form, function and ease of use. I expect they will deter most people from the temptation to steal my cameras but don't think they are sturdy enough to stop a determined thief with some tools. Between the security boxes, hefty master lock and the locking cables it costs almost as much to secure the (mid-grade) cameras as it would to replace them. Still, these are the best alternative I've found so far. ... show more

  • Cool lock - works well for many game cameras
Color: Silver and Black
I have three of these python locks now (and three game camera - one Moultrie, one Truth Camera and one Bushnell Trail camera - not all models accept the cables, but many do). One Python I've been using on a camera that watches the front of my property near a barn for over a year now, the others in various locations on the trails in my property to check out wildlife. I typically retrieve the photos anywhere from 1-3 week intervals and haven't had many issues with them getting fouled up. One of the locks was getting hard to work the key in it so I put in several squirts of graphite and worked the lock 5-8 times and it is fine again. The locks have been used throughout either one or two midwest winters and have held up fine - I haven't had to take them off after an ice storm - might need to warm them up with a thermacare heat wrap or ones hands to melt off ice in that case. Once you set the lock to be 'engaged' you can put the cable in it and it will only go through the one way - i.e. you can tighten it, but not loosen the cable. Haven't had anyone take any of my cameras yet, but then I haven't seen any trespassers in my photos either... ... show more
