I had high hopes for this but it arrived cloudy and remained that way even after following the instructions. So disappointing. So I am returning. No reason for me to attempt to 'filter ' this. It's brand new and not right. I googled this product and found it at Home Depot for $10 less. This is my third [generic] lava lamp. The first I broke through clumsy handling. The second was one of the larger size that eventually stopped working. The wax just stopped floating when heated. This new one looks great. The smaller traditional size is the way to go, IMO. It just has better proportions. The finish on this one is metallic but something, something a little fancier than the brushed aluminum on my other two. It looks more like a piece of furniture. Lava Lamp instructions talk about cycling a few times in a certain way to clear up cloudy water. And, to be patient. Try shorter cycles. This is after saying it had to run a long time for first use. It came to me cloudy right out of the box. The wax goes to the top and sits there. Supposedly that's overheating. Try new bulb. Ordered new bulb, etc. Trying to give this thing a fair chance. So apparently if you turn the lamp on you void the lava lamp warranty and on Amazon the window closes in a month which was yesterday. So yeah complete waste of money with deceptive instructions and return policy. ... show more

I was a bit hesitant after reading the reviews and slept on the idea of picking one of these up because the reviews aren't the greatest. I did have an issue with mine but it wasn't the end of the world. When I plugged the cable in the controller was set to turn on by default and the light bulb instantly blew. I didn't want to deal with the headache of trying to reach out for a replacement bulb so I ordered a pack of replacement bulbs and waited. They do offer a wide selection of replacement bulbs so do your due diligence to ensure you get the correct size with the correct wattage for you size of lamps should you encounter this problem. Once the bulbs I arrived I twisted a fresh one one in and switched the light on. The first cycle did take a good four hours to really get naturally flowing though I believe I have read this is common for your first cycle. I allowed the lamp to run for eight hours and the liquid did appear to be a little hazy as many others have reported but after a few eight hour cycles the liquid is crystal clear and the wax is naturally flowing in a little over an hour. Do I regret my purchase? Not at all. I can recommend a couple things! Use the Honey extension to track this products price because price does seem to trend upward before holidays and downward after. Also if you do choose to purchase, go in to it understanding it may require a little patience and a few days to get yours running how you envisioned in your mind. You also want to be aware you're purchasing something that doesn't exactly ship very well and it comes from a massive facility rushing out millions of packages. Though Amazon returns are pretty simple and hassle free. Best of luck! ... show more

A lava lamp has only one simple job, and this one can’t do that one job. As others have stated, the “lava” goop doesn’t move at all. It did at first, when we got it almost 2 months ago, but even at that time, it would take 2-3 hrs of heating up before it’d start acting like a lava lamp. Now we can keep it turned on aaaalll day and night and the “lava” just doesn’t do anything at all. The photo I shared shows what it looks like after it’s been on for about 20 hours (don’t need a video, as nothing is moving around at all). We even put the glass dome on the base of a second, operates-perfectly-lava-lamp that we have, and the lava goop STILL didn’t do anything. Don’t buy this, the materials inside the glass are obviously junk/very cheap knock off. ... show more
