  • Superior performance at a very reasonable price
Color: Black Style Name: Master Opener
A can opener should not be this pleasing, but it is. And it is well worth buying. Please allow me to place my judgment in the context of my circumstances and experience. I just wrapped up a divorce in which I lost my home and nearly all of my possessions. I am living (squatting) in a 200 square foot accessory structure while I seek a professional license that will help me to get back on my feet. Space and money are extremely tight, meaning everything I purchase must be essential and effective. Kuhn Rikon's can opener is perfect. It does its job well. It offers other features. Its durability means it's a bargain in the long run. Let's take those one by one. First, it opens cans unusually well. You don't have to squeeze the snot out of a plier-like device to force a blade through the can. You simply plop this thing on the top of a can and turn to crank. It grips the can for you, and it opens the can with minimal force. I don't have arthritis, but I imagine that this would be a welcome relief if I did. I don't have children, but I imagine the blunt edges that this opener produces would give me peace of mind if I did. A Kuhn Rikon opens cans extremely well. Second, it's multifunctional. Admittedly, the fact that a can opener opens cans might not seem altogether impressive. That is, after all, the tool's purpose. Kuhn Rikon has packed more in there. It also pries pull tabs, loosens jar lids, and grips bottle tops. With my tiny space and limited budget, having one tool able to do all of that makes a huge difference. It means I don't have the clutter of several kitchen devices or the expense additional devices. One object and one purchase, I save space and money. Third, the price is even better in light of the opener's longevity. Yes, there are cheaper can openers out there, but they just don't work as well when new, and they tend to degrade rapidly. Kuhn Rikon's can openers last. The one that I lost in the divorce, a different model than this one, had seen heavy use in my kitchen for years, and it showed no signs of fatigue or wear. It worked every bit as well after years of use and abuse as it did when it was new. In my possibly warped view of budgeting, that makes a Kuhn Rikon can opener a bargain. The initial purchase price is spread over many more uses than an inferior can opener, gradually reducing the cost per use below the "bargain" can opener. Combining the pleasing function, multitude of features and product durability, I think this is probably the best can opener out there. Even broke and cramped, it was worth buying. ... show more

  • My hands do hurt, and I thought this would be bulky and akward, but it's easy to use
Color: Red Style Name: Master Opener
I have two can openers that open cans up this way, without the sharp edges. I have a pampered chef one I bought back in 2006 or 2007, that I knew would work with my hands, because I tested it at the pampered chef party. My husband had also picked up a non-brand name one, but doesn't work as well as my pampered chef one for my hands. I use it for traveling since it was much cheaper, in case I ever lost it. Well, my pampered chef one gave up the ghost. I have to go around twice to get it to work right. It really has served me well. But, it has gotten to the point that it hurts my hands to use it, turning the thing, and having to go around twice! Yikes! NO! AND we are in COVID - so going to a party, well, people don't do that any more. I was in a bind. I read all reviews on these type of can openers and reluctantly decided on this brand, mainly because I trust THIS BRAND NAME, their other products I have, (salt/pepper grinders, peelers), work very well, and last years and years. This can opener did not disappoint. It is easy to use, easy to latch onto the can, easier to turn, easy to release. It helps that this is not my first can opener of this type. As for the other stuff - I had my doubts. But, they do work VERY well! I tested a water bottle first thing...it worked! Twisted off like a charm, no need for me to haul myself to the man cave when I want a bit of cold water to drink from a bottle. One day I needed to use the ring top puller, (that pointy thing in the end - which doesn't really poke at me in the drawer when I reach in, like I thought it might). That was much easier than I imagined. MUCH easier than using a butter knife blade, or a screw driver tip. OMG! Terrific! Smooth as butter. I thought it would be a bit tough to slide the pointy tip under the pull top circle to get it raised off the can lid, but it wasn't! It worked at my first attempt. Just a few days ago, there I was, in the kitchen, staring at a jar of olives. Should I haul out the small strap wrench for the small lid? Those strap wrenches are better on larger lids, and too much of a hassle to use no matter what size the lid is when I can just march my jar into the man cave on the other side of the house to get it opened, (providing said man cave is occupied at the moment). I remembered my new can opener. OH my it was too easy. I popped the side under the lid, broke the seal, and there I was - marching myself to the man cave to show off my achievement. Now, I don't drink soda, and hubby doesn't drink beer from a bottle, so that that bottle opener function I have not tested. But, I'm sure THAT works as it should. ... show more

  • Wish I had this years ago!!! Really the best ever.
Color: Red Style Name: Master Opener
I didn't even know I opened the can. I kept fiddling with this trying to figure it out and I realized the lid was off! Lid lifts with your fingers easily, absolutely zero sharp edges anywhere and the can reseals. This is too magical, I have to study how cans are sealed. Anyway, the pull tab grabber works, and I am sure the bottle opener and screw top cap works also, just wish it handled bigger bottles. This thing is really cool and I love it already. I feel great using a super piece of Swiss technology. Hats off and a bow to the Swiss engineers who probably worked very hard at making this. Thanks. Oh, and this was a super low price with free shipping and I was able to use a $9 reward with my Amazon account card, plus I earned points. ... show more
