      • An Aging In Place Necessity For Me

    Edit 9-22-23: I have had this can opener for almost 3 months now and have used it almost every day. It is still working perfectly. I had to come back and add a comment. I see some reviews saying they the can opener leaves sharp edges. I have NEVER had a sharp edge left by this opener. I just set the opener on top of the can, press the button, and the can opener does the rest. Original review: Let me start by saying I PROMISE to come back and edit this review if ANY problems develop with this can opener in the next year. I am in my late 70s, in a wheelchair, and dealing with several different forms of painful arthritis. I still cook for myself and my husband and try to do as much "from scratch" as I can. That means I open cans on a pretty regular basis. My new Kitchen Mama electric can opener arrived today. I think the next sentence says a LOT. I opened the box, removed the can opener, cleaned it with a food safe disinfecting wipe, installed 4 AA batteries, set a standard size can of chick peas on the counter, set the can opener down on top of the can, pressed the button, and the can open started rotating around the top of the can. THAT'S IT!!! I didn't have to fidget with positioning. I just sat it on top of the lid with the can opening part where I thought it should sit. The can opener does continue to rotate around the lid even after it has completely cut the lid BUT you do hear a difference in sound once the lid has been completely severed. I pressed the on/off button again and the can opener stopped. I removed the can opener and then lifted the lid off. No sharp edges, no muss, no fuss. I have only opened several different sized cans before writing this review which is why I promised to come back and report if any problems develop. This can opener is a life changer for me in the kitchen. I had gotten to the point where I had to get my husband to help me remove lids on cans because it was just too painful for me to do myself. This can opener is everything I hoped it would be and more. Now I just hope it continues to work as fantastically as it does right now. I LOVE THIS THING!!! My aging in place kitchen is just about complete. I have several reacher grabbers, 2 wonderful basket air fryers, a 6 quart Instant Pot, and the best can opener I could ever ask for. Now I just need to find the perfect affordable opener for lids on jars, and an easy to use lemon juicer. ... show more

    This can opener is neat in that its hands free! Only thing I don’t like is that it doesn’t work on all cans! So make sure you have another can opener nearby! But on the cans it works on, it works great!!

      • What a COOL idea!

    I admit I was skeptical as I read the description on Amazon. But it was one of those cases where the idea about how it did the job seemed worth the risk. Cutting open a can by cutting from the side of the can, just under the rim, rather than the puncturing the top, almost sounded crazy! But it works! Perfectly! And I truly believe it's much safer. With most can openers, you must stand there holding the lever that controls how long it takes to cut out the lid! With this one, you simply drop it onto the can and BRIEFLY press the red button to get it started. For the next few seconds, you're free to do anything else. Instead of the can spinning around, this entire unit does the spinning around while the can doesn't even move. And while it's doing it's job, your hands and attention can be on something else. IF it takes a bit longer than your previous opener, it will only be a few seconds at most. And those seconds are yours to use as you see fit. When preparing food, every second is valuable! When the job is done, you simply lift the opener and put it away. Then you lift the lid by the rim. It comes off very easily with no mess on your fingers. Just drop the lid in the kitchen garbage can. No sharp edges anywhere! You may want to occasionally rinse off the opener but that's not necessary very often if at all. Certainly not to the extent that "old fashioned" electric openers must be cleaned often. I used to own/operate a childcare center--100+ kids. Making sure openers were clean was a biggie on state Inspectors' list! And that "put it away" part is even better than you think. Unlike most can openers that must take up counter space, not to mention an electric outlet, this one can easily fit in a drawer or cabinet out of sight. Note that it is battery powered--4 AA batteries. No wires to an electric outlet! I haven't had it long enough to have any idea how long the batteries will last. But I don't see that as a concern. I feel that using it for the minute or less it takes to open a can is not likely to be a big drain on the batteries. Simply MARVELOUS! ... show more
