  • Kobra OBD2 code reader seems to work just fine, great value
I purchased several of these Kobra OBD2 code readers for the kids to keep one in each of their cars to check error codes if the check engine light comes up while they are out driving. That way we can tell if the failure is critical or not. They seem to work just fine as inexpensive code readers; I double check the error codes with my better code readers as soon as I can, and so far these Kobra code readers have been correct. They also do fine at erasing error codes, and was very useful in telling when the car was ready for smog check. They work quite well at the intended purpose, and I am satisfied with the purchase of these code readers. The kids love having them so they can find out immediately why the check engine light is on. ... show more

  • Great scanner to have on hand. Saved me hundreds of dollars!
I am grateful to have had this scanner on hand. My car was due for tag renewal and it kept failing emissions due to the "no communication" with the computer. I did this 3 times at different service stations. The emissions station uses OBD2 scanners to pass or fail cars. There has been no "check engine light" on in my car. Sure enough, when I hooked my car up to this personal scanner at home it created a "link error" message. This would discourage a lot of people and make them think it wasn't working properly. However, I knew it had nothing to do with the OBD2 scanner, and everything to do with my car since it wasn't able to communicate with the emissions OBD2 and this personal scanner. I was able to do some research online and tweak a few things at home until it was able to communicate with this personal scanner. It turned out to be as simple as changing out a fuse!! After it was able to communicate with my personal scanner I knew it was fixed and it passed emissions!! This scanner saved me hundreds of dollars from bringing into a shop to be fixed and repaired. I probably would have paid for unnecessary repairs in the process. Very grateful and happy to have this product!! ... show more

  • Worked great but the instructions weren't accurate for my 2015 Jeep Liberty
After spending over $1,000.00 to fix the check engine light related to a very small vapor leak I decided to purchase this product. It did clear the check engine light and as well a low tire pressure light on my 2015 Jeep Liberty. The instructions included didn't really work, I basically plugged the device in and did a scan, there was no calibration or messages, it just stated KOBRA. I waited for 15-minutes and decided to just do the scan hoping it would work, it did. When trying to clear the messages I got an ERASE FAIL! message but the messages did clear on the device and both lights were turned off. The only reason why I'm not giving 5 stars is because the instructions were really not correct, but this could be my vehicle. Everyone should have one of these devices in their car. I travel a lot and when one of these lights come on when you're in the middle of nowhere it's a relief that you can at least have an idea what's going on. It fits nicely in the glove box and if fairly easy to use. ... show more

  • Very simple to use and works exactly as promised
Great simple device. Item arrived with instruction manual (which included a listing of codes and descriptions) in a resealable ziplock-like plastic bag. It did have the look of having been used before. That didn't matter because it was in good shape and worked exactly as promised. Follow the very simple directions and you should have your diagnostics in minutes. After getting the code and description from the device (and manual) I simply googled my car make/model/year with the code. this further described the potential issue, symptoms I may be seeing and possible corrective actions. My code told me that there was an issue with the MAF (?). I am not a car guy and this meant nothing to me. But after googling I understood the potential issue. Before taking it to the repair place I did the simple DIY suggestions found the internet and corrected the problem by simply changing the air filter. Spent $18-ish on this device and another $10 for an air filter and my problem was fixed. Taking it in for car repair would have cost an extra $100 minimum. ... show more

  • great product
worked perfectly. my check engine light was on and my auto mechanic ran a diagnostic and found a sensor that needed to be replaced. The estimate for the work was $830. This is on a 2000 VW Eurovan which is difficult to find replacement parts for. Since the van was running fine I would have ignored the light but I needed to pass an emission test in order to renew my registration. I purchased this scanner and followed the instructions. The check engine light turned off and I was able to pass the emissions test. Saved me over $800! ... show more

  • Doesn't diagnose AT light problem
I figured out how to use it and it works ok. But I consistently get no codes and my AT light (transmission) comes on frequently with cold starts. I turn off engine and system reboots so nothing in the code for it. I'm guessing it's the input speed sensor. A mechanic couldn't get a code read either with his device. So I guess it has to be the CEL (check engine light) that comes on for a code read. I was able to get the VIN with this scanner. I don't know what else to say except that it doesn't scan AT light problem and you have to turn engine and ignition off before scanning and AT light disappears. Still I can't complain as I got it for under $13. w/ free shipping on a prime trial. ... show more

  • Worth the Money
So this isn't the most advanced OBD reader, but for the price it's great. I bought it because I was going to look at some fixer upper cars I was thinking of buying, and it's great being able to check if the check engine light code is on for the reason the owner claims it is without going to a mechanic. Of course, I still recommend getting a mechanic to look at a car you're serious about buying, but this has helped me rule out several lemons without wasting more time. Also nice to be able to share with my friends when their check engine light come on-- So many check engine light codes can just be the seal of the gas cap failing or failure to tighten the gas cap enough-- why pay a mechanic $60+ to tell you you need to replace a $20 part or just be more careful when you can just have one of these on hand? Booklet contains the universal codes, if you get a manufacturer specific one, you'll need to look it up online, which is very easy with Google. ... show more
