We were really in need of a new knife set and decided to give this one a try due to the price and number of pieces included. We have been using it now for a couple of months and have had no issues. The knives are very sharp and have a nice black coating on the blade. I was a bit worried about this but so far, they still look brand new and regular use has not marred the finish. The handles are a light plastic and don't feel particularly beefy, but they feel good in your hand, and they are easy to cut with. Admittedly, we don't use some of the knives in this set just because there's no need. If you do a lot of cooking, you may use more of them and I would expect the quality and performance to be just as good as the others. So far so good. I was surprised to see the dings and marks on the knife holding block, when the box and packaging were completely intact and unharmed. Im NOT happy with the shipments I've received lately.

    • Great set of everyday knives
I have a very expensive set of knives that I used to like to use, however over time it has become rather bothersome trying to keep up with them all and to make sure that they are being properly cared for. What we need in the kitchen is a good set of everyday knives that are easy to care for and sharped enough to tackle even the toughest jobs. The included block is well-made, attractive, and compact. My other block sits on the corner of the bar because it is too big for the open counter space in the kitchen. Although colored black the knives are made of stainless steel and include 13 knives: a chef knife, a bread knife, a santoku knife, a paring knife, a slicer knife, a utility knife and six steak knives. The set also includes a set of kitchen shears and a block with a knife sharpener. There is a knife for just about everything that you want to do. The black paint adds a touch of non-stick coating ensuring a clean cut and easy cleaning. I am still torn on how I feel about the serrated steak knives they cut through meat well enough but not as smooth as I would like. The knives are well-balanced and fit in your hand very comfortably although they do feel a bit on the light side. Although dishwasher safe for prolonged life it is recommended to hand wash. They also recommend regular honing and occasional sharpening but I am worried about that and wonder how it might affect the finish on the knives. So far we have not had any issues after 4 months of use. Overall I will rate the knives at a 9. The current price can't be beaten at $70 with a 30% off coupon available. Whether you keep them in the included black or in your drawer you won't go wrong with this set. These would be great for a college student, someone just moving into their first apartment, for use in your motor home or as an everyday set. ... show more
