I ordered this for my daughter. Her kitchen knives was old and wore out.I had many to choose from but I liked the way this looked. I was presently surprised that how nice they are for the price. They look nice in her kitchen, they don't take up much room on the counter because they fit close to the back splash. The knives are light weight but yet extremely sharp. I’m pretty impressed with what you can get on Amazon nowadays. This knife set is no exception. For the price point, I was really surprised with how much I could get. In fact, when I saw the price after looking at what’s included, I literally took a double take Granted, this isn’t a high-end pro chef version, but for the everyday person in his or her everyday casual kitchen, this is a great set to have. You really can’t go wrong! I love that this comes with a sharpener. To be honest, I think you’re going to need it. Plus the blades are a little on the thin side. Regardless, again, for the casual everyday person, this is a great buy. If you’re a pro, move on. Otherwise, get this. Overall, very pleased with this set. Out of the box, all the blades are relatively sharp. Presentation wise, this is a five star product. I mean it looks really sharp in the black. Still, for me personally, I wish it didn’t have the non-stick coating as I personally don’t trust non-stick chemicals. These knives are a really good value because you get so many things in this set. They’re really sharp & attractive looking, especially when displayed in the included knife block. The black coating will probably scratch if you don’t use a soft sponge when cleaning them, so keep that in mind. I think this knife set would make a great housewarming gift. ... show more

I love a good knife. I already have a knife block set from Amazon Basics, but I also have a few VG10 Damascus-like chef knives and Cangshan boning knife. I keep my knives sharp with an electric sharpener. When I bought this set, I wasn't expecting a entire knife set for about $30 to be equivalent to a $100 boning knife, but I still feel a better value can be had with the Amazon Basics knife set. First, I'll be first to state that this set looks pretty nice. The knife block displays the knives well and the acrylic on the block is thick. But I soon realized this vertical storage of knives wasn't practical if you have cabinets above. The angled nature of most knife blocks means you can pull the knives up and out toward you, but with this set, you can only pull them up. Unfortunately, if you're pulling out the chef's knife or bread knife, you might not have enough clearance if the cabinets are above. Second, the knives are somewhat thin. It's only about two-thirds the thickness of the Amazon Basic set. I compared the chef knives and the Amazon Basics one is much more heavy duty. The Amazon Basics set also features a full tang and hefty handles. While the handles here feel fine, they are very light and are not very well-balanced. I doubt there is a full tang under the polypropylene. Third, it's actually not all that sharp out of the box. Maybe I'm spoiled by some of my nicer knives and the fact that I like to keep my knives sharp, but this knife set barely passed the paper test. It only sliced through paper occasionally and inconsistently. This claims to be a 56+ hardness. It's standard to kitchen knives, but low for higher-end knives. It means that while this may be durable, it may not hold its sharpness. Fourth, the black coating looks nice, but I'm concerned it will scratch and flake off. I see some scratches on the knives already. Where would the coating go? Lastly, the peeler is really low quality. The scissors are OK, but my Amazon Basics scissors can be separated for easy cleaning whereas this one can not. Overall, this knife set looks nice, but the block is less practical than a regular block for me. This is a cheap knife set and I'm not expecting VG10 metal and full tang, but Amazon Basics offers a similar set that is much higher in quality. ... show more
