The vest is good for being in the water (obviously) but when we went to the beach I chose to put my grandson in a regular life vest…the ones without the arm floaties. This way he could play in the sand and be not only safe but comfortable.

Personally, this scared me when I tried it on my 2 year old (23lbs) because it looked like she was being pushed to float due to so much padding. Later we realized, my daughter just didn't want to put her feet down. Once she got used to it she wasn't letting her body float and it was fine. I have tried all sorts of floatation devices from my older boy when he was one to my 2 year old now. He wants to be so independent but the regular puddle jumpers say under his chin and only keep him so far a float. This device allows him to be a little more independent in the pool or late. I wouldn't rely on this to keep your child safe from drowning. My sons arms kept coming out of the sleeves so I bought him a new one. If you're looking for a life jacket that's safe and reliable this is not it.
