It did an excellent job of cleaning our carpets…probably due to the excellent cleaning detergent that came with the machine. It’s a heavy machine, but it will not be often you’ll need to lift it. It rolls easily on the carpet. The gunk it picks up is easy to clean from the brushes, and the clean water and dirty water containers are easy to remove/attach. So in comparison to Rug Doctor (Home Depot rental unit), Bissell Home Elite (2005), and Hoover Dog Care Carpet Pro (borrowed from friend). Bigger water tank than most but the tanks are not same size. Only other issue is that the latch for capture tank is flimsy and will probably be the item that breaks first. Pros - area coverage is equivalent square footage of 10’x10’ before return tank full. Slightly better than the two non-rental units. I ran over the area cleaning 3 times and carpet was almost completely dry within 8 hours where with all three others had to wait overnight; so I concluded that in same process that this rug cleaner pulled more water thru the carpet than the others. Also, cleaned carpet better but I used the included Kenmore solutions (so I’ll definitely buy a jug) and I also pretreated with a natural pet stain and smell remover - so don’t know which / both / combination? But worked great! The return tank latch is the lone reason for the 4 stars as just think I’ll have to buy a replacement sooner than later. ... show more

I have owned dogs 40+ years and yes, the carpets need cleaning. I have ALWAYS paid high dollar for carpet cleaners thinking that I would get the best product on the market. This cleaner shut that down.....the $ was extremely affordable compared to other cleaners. My attitude was I really can't lose if it only does half as good as my other cleaners for the $. Well let me tell you this..this cleaner did a better job than the other cleaners I have purchased in the past. Bonus is the weight and ease in using the machine. I have heart problems and was able to use this machine with little exertion. So I was able to CLEAN the carpets and use the machine MYSELF and the end result is complete satisfaction. Would absolutely recommend this machine.....the $, the quality, and results exceeded my expectations!!!! ... show more

I received this late Friday and used it for the first time on Sunday. It would not be possible for me to be happier! Previously I have rented machines and once employed a professional service to clean the carpet. This Kenmore machine did a better job of cleaning the carpet than either the rental or the professional! There were light stains in the carpet (not too noticeable but to me) which I thought would never come out. They're gone! No longer visible at all! I had vacuumed extremely well before using it but was shocked at just how much dirt this machine pulled from deep in the carpet. It was kind of disgusting, actually. I thought I was cleaner than that. The machine is lightweight and easy to handle. Read the instructions. It does not require a lot of cleaning solution. Much less than a rental does. It extracted nearly all the fluid from the carpet. I cleaned the carpet Sunday evening. Today is Monday morning and the carpet is dry in spite of high humidity. It may be a high investment for many people but if you have carpets it is worth it for the money you will save on rentals or outside services over time. No trips to lug heavy machines or allow strangers in your home. No time limits or being subject to waiting for someone who shows up late. You can clean small spots any time you like. For cleaning solution I used Zep general purpose carpet cleaning concentrate. I got a gallon and used a bit more than the 5 oz per gallon dilution.     • Cleaned a severly dirty carpet much better than I thought it would

The carpet in one of the rooms gets neglected. It's brown, but will show certain stains. These were neglected for a couple of years until I went in there less than 6 months ago. I went looking for a carpet cleaner. Tried one, but it had severe restrictions on water temp. It was sent back. Then I got this. It still has max water temp restrictions (right around 100deg F I think)(the other specified to use nothing hotter than tap). I used Bissel carpet cleaning products as I had bought these beforehand (one had Oxy in it). It worked so very well and smelled so very good. No stains remained at all. I did have to take a stiff, nylon bristled brush to just a couple after going over it with the cleaner, but they all came up, and without much effort. Less than I thought for, anyway. There will be carpet strands in the vac nozzle; the twin rollers scrub the crap out of the carpet. When I used the hose and small scrubber attachment, I placed a small item under the front of the cleaner to raise the rollers just far enough off the carpet in the event they turned. For they would ruin the carpet if they did for the length of time I ended up using that small attachment. It cleaned the carpet so well the only way you could tell that it was not new was the crushed piling where an office chair had been used in a make-shift office.
