I am so happy we finally took the plunge and bought this machine after years of renting it! It works amazing! As you can see the carpet was instantly transformed back to its original color! The funny thing is I knew it was dirty but had no idea it was that dirty! My technique: I like to use hot tap water with a deep cleaner mixed in for the first pass. This gets it very clean but I like to go over it again with just water to rinse out the cleaner. I prefer not to smell cleaner on the carpet. Then it also gives it a second pass. I finished cleaning this area rug at 7pm, left it overnight in the garage with temps of 60. It was completely dry by 8am and ready to go back on the hardwood. We moved the area rug to the garage because we didn’t want the hardwood floor underneath to become wet. I will mention though I did lift it on the garage to see if water was accumulating below the it. The floor remained dry. ... show more

Bought this 2 years ago, wanted to work with it for awhile before I reviewed it. We bought a house and inherited white area carpeting. What were those people thinking? Replacing it is pretty far down our list of planned improvements but we have a dog and you can guess my problem. I was paying a professional service more than $200 at least once every other month depending on the season and weather. Yikes! Bought this heavy duty machine and am DELIGHTED with the results. If you can vacuum you can operate this shampooer. You are washing the carpet not the pad underneath so some stains do ‘come back up’—thats When it’s time to shampoo again! I did make the mistake of emptying the waste water into my utility sink causing a clog somewhere down the way. My husband made me listen to our plumber lecture me on « household plumbing ecosystems.” Let me save you that pleasure: Empty that bin into the toilet and flush! The various formulations of bissell rug shampoo are fine, but when I run out this time I plan to try StainX rug shampoo, also available here, because it does a super duper job with laundry stains. I vacuum before shampoing AND after because if there is any dog hair still in the rug the machine pulls it up and rolls it into little clumps. Awesome! Clean then cleaner still! This process is not a time suck. All in all depending how many rooms and hallways I’m washing I never work beyond 1.5-2 hours. And once it’s all rinsed and dried the handle folds down and the whole thing stores easily at the bottom of a linen closet. For me and probably for you too it’s a great investment! ... show more
