Since I replaced all my carpet with laminate flooring, I had donated my previous heavy duty Rug Doctor to charity. I still had an area rug in the living room and smaller rugs on entry areas. It was time to clean the large rug but I didn't want to purchase a large carpet cleaner just for the rug. I opted for this Bissell unit and though I've just used it once, so far I am more than pleased with it. It was easy to assemble/disassemble for cleaning and light weight for moving between floors. The water shampoo tank is smallish and due to the long time between rug cleaning I needed to refill it once to thoroughly clean the rug. The waste water tank tank is large enough to handle two shampoo tank fills. However, it was so easy to empty, I did so between shampoo refills more easily ascertain how clean the rug had been after the first cleaning cycle. I was impressed to see that the 2nd cleaning cycle was hardly needed to reach a clean state. We have a small dog that is pad-trained as well as an indoor cat, so we have occasional pet messes. The worst is urine. I have never owned an upright carpet cleaner before and decided to finally try one, and I am so happy with this purchase. It comes in a few pieces, but snaps together easily. It is SO lightweight, I wondered how is this going to be effective! I watched the how-to videos on the Bissell website and found using the machine and cleaning it afterward to be very simple. The solution I used was Bissell Professional Pet Urine Eliminator + Oxy Carpet Cleaning Formula. It has a fresh scent that is not overpowering and doesn't linger afterwards. I tackled a problem area in one room with urine stains and odor. I went over the worst part twice and only once along the outskirts. I also targeted a few old stains just to see if those would come up. I went over the whole thing on dry until no more water came up. Then I set up a box fan overnight to make sure it dried thoroughly. (We live in a humid climate.) By morning, it was completely dry, and the carpet looked *and felt* almost like new. It was fluffed up and soft again, and there is ZERO odor. I have my room back! This machine meets all of our needs and comes at an affordable price. The dirty water photos, one was from 3 tank-fulls and the other from 2 tank-fulls of cleaning mixture at a time. I was shocked at how much dirt was removed! Pros: Very easy to use. Light weight. Effective. Gives an easy way to clean without spending hours renting and returning a big machine to the big hardware store. Looks good. This is for small jobs! BUT I cleaned 50 sq ft of high traffic area on first use. And the result is impressive! It took 5 of the small clean water tanks to do this. Use 1/3 cup of cleaner for each 'fill-line full' hot water tank. This is easier to measure, using a funnel to pour the cleaning stuff into the tank. So handy and easy, you can pull the machine out, clean, and rince the tanks quickly, almost as easy as if you were vacuuming a small dirt area. Cons: Once you go over an area and sucked up the water, if you put the handle to vertical position (while still switched on) and push the suction part over the cleaned wet carpet, a lot more water gets sucked up into the tank! The machine does not get close enough to the carpet to get all the water out. Doing this is tedious but it helps to remove the most water. ... show more

I bought this for an area rug and was impressed by how much dirt it pulls up without leaving the rug wet. It brightened my area rug immediately and left it only slightly damp. It’s lightweight and easy to use. The only downside is the tank size for the cleaning solution. I needed to fill it 4 times for an 8x10 rug but it’s easy to fill and not really negative in the big picture. The solution it came with filled the tank 3 times. This is a great product! ... show more

I bought this to clean my large area rugs that I have over hardwood floors. I was skeptical regarding the effectiveness at cleaning. I was pleasantly surprised with how good it preformed. It was easy to assemble. It is lightweight. I am 70 with arthritis in my wrists and appreciate the easy of use. It's a keeper. I do reccomend it, but I can only speak of it in regards to 8 x10 area rugs not wall to wall carpet with padding. ... show more

I purchased this to clean a few area rugs in my house. As someone who's never in her life used a carpet cleaner before (just a vacuum), I found this to be very easy to use and easy to clean, and it worked great. It comes with a small bottle of cleaning solution that's enough to fill the tank 3 times. As other reviews have said, the water tank is small so if you're cleaning a big area, I imagine it'd be annoying to need to re-fill the tank constantly. But, one tank was enough to clean a 6x10 area rug. The carpets were significantly brighter after just one pass, and they were not nearly as wet as I would have thought. They felt almost dry to the touch right after cleaning. Definitely a good choice for area rugs or smaller carpets and at a much better price than more heavy-duty cleaners. ... show more
