I picked this up for my 4-year-old grandson that is learning how to swim. As with learning anything new, he is intimidated by the water. Once I gave him the kick board, he quickly discovered the power of kicking his feet to move about the water. He uses it while wearing his little water wings on his arms, but he is able to grip the kick board easily and firmly while moving about the pool. My 4 year old son is learning to swim. He has been trying to work on his kicking but is struggling. The problem is he doesn’t want my help. I got this kick board in hopes he would use it on his own. It worked perfectly and he has been using it non stop to work on his kicks. It holds him up well when used properly (with his arms straight out). Helps that it is a super cute and fun pattern. I've used this for my 4-yr-old who is learning to swim, and my older kids also love using it to practice kicking. (Or, to be honest, just to hold onto as they play around in the pool.) *It is not a floating device and won't completely hold up a child who can't swim*. However, my youngest can hold onto it and kick with only a tiny bit of assistance. It's a helpful tool in teaching him to swim, and in particular, to be horizontal across the water. There are multiple ways you can hold hte product, using the handles, or along the side. Lastly, it feels very gender neutral, without being pink or blue. This is sturdy and helpful for little swimmers who are first learning. It's a small board, which is good for older toddlers/smaller children. It has cut outs for hand grips near the top of the board, so it can be held both on the sides of the board, or gripped at the top, giving more buoyancy support. Got this to help my daughter learn to swim, this has been the best help for her so far. The size and weight of it makes it super easy for her tiny self to use & kick off from. It has an area for her to grip with her hands but it also stays under her if she wants to practice paddling with her arms. She also loves the color & design on it- the watermelons perfect for summer. I would definitely recommend this over the arm floaters when teaching a child to swim. We’ll be taking it to the beach & I’ll update my review after on how it does in the ocean! ... show more

My youngest is learning to swim right now so we got her one of these boards to help her while she learns to kick her feet and such. Works great at the lake too, and is an excellent thing to annoy your older system with.
