I waited three months after ordering to receive this guitar, and was quite dismayed at the condition of the instrument which finally arrived. First of all, Amazon shipped this without any external protection whatsoever. It arrived in the slim, soft cardboard factory guitar box, with little to no padding to protect the guitar. I'm not going to lie, the overall heft and finish and playability of the guitar is very impressive at this price, and own two original Gibson SG Standards from 2016 & 2017 to compare it to. I found the frets and feet ends to be smooth and the neck and fretboard looked good. The hardware on mine shows care in installation and the guitar appears to keep tune. I found the guitar to be resonant and to play far better than your typical import. With that said, QC seems abysmal on these guitars, or at least this was the case on mine. Check out the photos. These are only some of the flaws I found. Horribly cracked neck binding. Glue stuck to the finish. Various little paint flaws and dings in the body, and severe finish checking at the neck pocket. One of the fretboard inlays and part of the binding around the are with the crack was also stained pink by the paint used on the guitar, and doesn't match the rest of the inlays. I don't know if this could clean off with lemon oil or naptha but I'll likely give it a try. Overall, if you go into this with a clear idea of what you're getting (not a Gibson) for the price, this could be an amazing guitar for someone like me who doesn't want to wear the crap out of the frets on their two thousand dollar SGs yet needs a quality guitar for everyday practice that looks and almost feels like the real thing. If you're super picky and expect perfection, you're going to be disappointed. I don't know how all the other reviewers were lucky enough to receive flawless examples, though I suspect many of these reviewers either chose to overlook these types of flaws or don't have the be easy experience to discern what is and isn't acceptable QC on a quality electric guitar. So it's up to you. You'll be waiting months to receive it though ... show more

Okay, so I bought another IYV guitar. The SG style guitar just landed on my doorstep after a few months waiting. I closely inspected this guitar and all I could find is that it just needed to be tuned. Incredible craftsmanship, as of now it's literally perfection. The pickups are fantastic, paf style humbuckers. They do not need replaced at all unless you really want to do some modding. I've been playing this all day and loving it. I had it sitting in the sunlight and the finish is absolutely gorgeous. The only thing I really don't like too much is the tremolo system. It's not that this IYV tremolo system is bad, I'm just not impressed with that Gibson style maestro system. That being said you can put the handle back and it holds its tuning well. And honestly I do prefer the look of the maestro tremolo on the SG. It just looks very cool with the Chrome strip down the middle. If you don't like it I think this company has the same guitar available without the trim. Other than that I will update if anything changes, but as of now it's easily five star along with my other iyv guitars. ... show more

    • IYV guitars - the low cost alternative for the budget minded guitarist
IYV was making these SG style guitars several years ago. I picked up an IYV SG style guitar 3 years ago and it has the vintage vibrola tremolo that you see on this guitar. My guitar was around the same price level as this one, just a few dollars less. It has a dark cherry finish that is beautiful and immaculate in every detail. I have a few other IYV guitars and they are all very impressive, I can't find fault with any of them. I think IYV also makes guitars for the Harley Benton line up of guitars. When IYV started making these guitars years ago they were too close to the original Gibson body design. My guitar looks like an exact duplicate of a Gibson. Now you see the double horns on the guitars body are offset, avoiding any disputes with Gibson over copyright design. I have a very large collection of 41 guitars and my red IYV is the most beautiful guitar I own. I've been playing guitar since 1986 and generally never part with any of my guitars. The IYV factory in Vietnam puts out very impressive guitars at a very low cost level. Buying this guitar will save you quite a bit of money over the more expensive Epiphone SG version that has the vibrola tremolo. ... show more

I bought one of these SG guitars a few years ago and it is a FANTASTIC GUITAR. It is made very well and I didnt have to do any upgrades on it. It is a heavy guitar since it is mage of mahogany. The tremolo is exactly that, its not made to do dive bombs it is just a tremolo. IYV /IVY makes excelent guitars. You will not be dissapointed with this guitar purchase. ... show more
