  • Update: 4 stars - old title -> Almost going to return it however....
Style: Air Vent Pattern Name: Cradle
UPDATE: 1/10 I have decided to update my review to 4 stars. I changed the position of the vent to the left side vent and it does work and has not fallen down. It is also easy for me now to remove the phone using the switch with one hand. I switched to the left side of the vent because I can shut the cold/hot air if needed. Also I positioned it high up and even if I wanted to use the hot air the phone itself doesn't get too hot. So now I'm as satisfied as can be with a air vent mount and am able to use Waze despite not having Android Auto. Will update this review if anything happens otherwise. For the price I got it for - $12.79 I guess I can deal with some of its shortcomings. I just recently purchased a Honda CRV EX 2016 and unfortunately my vehicle doesn't come with Android Auto and I really want to be able to use the WAZE GPS. I have a Galaxy J7 phone which has a 5 inch screen. I didn't want to buy a dashboard or windshield mount because I feel the stickiness would disintegrate over time and I haven't had good luck with windshield mounts as they fall off and frighten the beejesus out of me. I saw the IOttie vent mount had a lot of great reviews and it was on sale so I figured why not. The shortcomings I noticed: 1. For me the air vent clip was difficult to open and you need muscle power to really open it up. I understand that's needed so it really sticks into the air vent but it was just difficult for me. I'm in my 30's. 2. The rubber of the air vent clip didn't seem like it would last - that the rubber would lose its rubberiness (i hope you know what i mean) When I put it on my air vent I could easily pull it out. 3. It didn't seem easy to remove the phone. I had to angle my hands/fingers when I press the spring lever removers (sorry not sure what the proper term is lol!) Of course I'll have to mention the positives: 1. I've driven my vehicle for a about a week with the Iottie and I have a 1-2 hrs work drive, highway and local roads that has twists and turns and so far the Iottie hasn't fallen off. 2. I like that the ports are available in the bottom and front - specifically for charging. If I still had my Honda Civic 2012, I would have needed my AUXILIARY port open. My previous CD slot mount covered the Auxiliary & Charging ports and that sucked. I could never put the phone fully mounted just halfway just to keep those ports open. 3. I like that the phone is a little away from the air vent. What i mean by this is that its not right smack in the air vent like other vent mounts. So the air coming of the vent will at least be able to "escape"/reach the passengers. I don't have to worry that my phone is blocking the vent - or hot/cold air is blasting the back of my phone. In conclusion, I have canceled my return and have decided to keep the item. I am hoping that the IOttie will last me until I can upgrade to my next Honda CRV in 10+ years lol! But if it lasts me at least 1-2 years I'll be happy. I will update this review if my IOttie ever malfunctions on me. ... show more

  • Simple and practical
Style: Air Vent Pattern Name: Cradle
Good and cheap for travel accessory for rental cars. Does its job. An additional bottom grip would make it perfect

  • Good overall phone holder: Excellent mount angle adjustability
The iOttie Easy One Touch Mini CD Slot Car Mount Holder Cradle is a good product. However, the only weak point for me, is the strength of the spring-loaded & rubber-padded adjustable phone grip portion. It is adequate, but IMHO, the adjustable grip itself could be just a little bit firmer, or possibly feature a way to 'click' lock the phone into place once it is set at the proper angles. My phone (i-phone 4S in a hard & smooth optics case) does not generally come loose on me, but I sense that it might, especially in the event of a quick or sudden stop. However, I can easily loop a rubber band over and around the adjustable padded grip portion (and obviously behind the phone in its case), to more securely hold the phone in place. A click-lock feature, firmly holding the smart phone and case "in place" would obviate that need. On the plus side, the phone holder mount (the portion fitting into the CD slot) is quite firm and very solid. I rate that CD mount to be excellent! Plus, the padded phone mount outside of the CD slot can be easily adjusted for finely affixing the phone at the desired horizontal and vertical angles, given the specific specific needs of the driver and/or passengers within the vehicle. In other words, as a driver, I can pull off the road, such as in a rest stop, and then sit back and have a full visual conversation, without having to hold the phone. Or, the mounted phone holder can easily be adjusted so that a passenger, i.e., someone sitting in the passenger seat, is able to carry on a fully visual conversation on a smart phone, or even watch a video while the vehicle is proceeding along on a highway. My opinion: This mount is superior to cup-mount phone holders because it is far more adjustable, but it needs an improved phone grip. A mere rubber band can substitute for that, so I would recommend this over other phone holders. ... show more

  • Really well made vent mount, LGv20 large phone
Style: Air Vent Pattern Name: Cradle
One of the better phone mounts I've owned. I've tried goose necks, the stationary types, cigarette light ones, and some vent ones that all works OK but not great. Most i had to stumble around trying to get the phone like adjust this or that, tighten this. Some just fell apart while while while doing so. I should have mentioned i've always had bigger phones so that might have caused some issues in the first place (note2, note 4, lgv20). So anyway, the last one i used was a suction dashmounted one i found at my local store, it worked well for a couple years, untill a screw came loose, then another and then it just fell apart. So i was looking for something that would be closer so i didn't have to reach or have something in my way of vision while driving so i looked for something specific to vent mounts. Huge selections, magnets are out of the questions. Despite what people claim, magnets CAN physically and internally damage electronics, especially as powerful as they claim theirs to be. Moving on, I saw a lot of ones that had adjustable arms and cradle types that i thought would hold my large phone up but i thought i'd give this simple one a try since it claims to hold up a note. Assembled the vent mount to the phone mount and attached it to the vent and i was done. I pressed my LGv20 into the back phone mount and it "grabbed" my phone (there is a button in the center of the phone mount that activates the arms). I let go of the phone and it stayed. It was tight firm grip, To release the phone i reach for the phone naturally to grab it my middle and thumb would reach around to grab the phone and press the release switch putting the arms back into reset position ready to grab again when i put the phone back. Over all i think it's really well designed and holds the weight of my phone well. The vent mount is sturdy and tight to the vent. This is probably the most convenient phone holder i'd ever bought. A little pricey imho (took off a star) ... show more
