Directions: Double Wall Founts work on a vacuum seal principle when the base is full and the lid is properly attached. When filling the fount there may be some water seepage around the valve and base of the pan; this is normal and will be stopped when the outer jacket is replaced. To remove the lid while water is in the unit ➢ Tilt the fount to a 45 degree angle. This will break the air lock. ➢ Twist the lid to the left. ➢ Slowly lift the lid from the base. IMPORTANT Wash out the fount with a mild soap and water before using. Do not use abrasives to clean. DO NOT pull hard on the outer jacket handle, never carry drinker with liquids in it by the outer jacket handle and never hang unit when water is in it. DO NOT use vinegar in galvanized founts. Vinegar may not be used in Harris Farms poly drinkers.

    • Much easier to clean than plastic waterers..
This is the fourth waterer we've bought for our flock. The others are all plastic and horrible to clean. This metal one rinses easily. Because of the mechanism that holds back the water until the top is in place, it's much easier to fill and carry out during winter as well.

    • Drinking water turns rusty color!
Bought this in June but didn't use it until December. They did not spray the inside so the water gets red from rust! Outside is fine but the part that holds the water gets rusty so I have to use a scub to clean the inside everyday. The water turns a deep red!

the water constantly drips out. slowly onto the floor. useless. I see no way to adjust it. But it is pretty.

I've always a little hesitant to buy non-prime products. However, in this case I'm glad I pulled the trigger and ordered this waterer. About a year and a half ago I ordered one of the plastic waterers for my chickens. It served well but after about a year in the sun the plastic started to degrade. Every time I'd fill it some more of the waterer would break off. Finally last week it took its last breath and basically fell apart in my hands when I was filling it. Over the last few months I've gone to Tractor Supply looking for a good quality metal waterer. They have a few metal feeders, but no waterer that would work. There's also no metal waterers with prime shipping. So I went ahead and purchased this one. The product actually came faster than the estimated delivery date. UPS just dropped it off. It's exactly what I was looking for. It's thick galvanized metal and this thing is sturdy. I just filled it up with water and my chickens were happy. I'm glad that the metal is not transparent so that should help eliminate the algae problem that I had with my plastic feeder. It's also double wall insulated so that should help keep the water cooler. I expect the shiny surface to also reflect some of the sun to help keep the water cooler.     • Great for AZ heat!
We bought two of these for our chickens. It’s super great and ideal for keeping water cool for our chickens during the Arizona summer. It does seem to rust pretty quickly, but it doesn’t seem like that big of a deal as of now.

I purchased two about a year ago for two coops (12 and 21 chickens). They are easy fill and clean. To keep them free of debris, I placed them on top of 8 inch wood blocks. They are galvanized but it did not prevent one of them from rusting. They stayed thawed in temperatures above 25 degrees in our insulated coops. Good product.     • Works Flawlessly
We have 2 of these for my chickens. I've never had a problem. I feel like people that had problems with them don't understand how to use them or the gravity pull wasn't tight. Be sure once turned and latched to 'pull up' on the handle to activate the suction and then release. I bought it thinking you could hang them like the Harris feeders - but in retrospect - it would be a lot of weight to hang and the suction wouldn't be able to work - water would just keep coming out. I fixed this by placing it on a brick (helps keep the water clean). I love this waterer the PROS definitely out way the CONS. PROS: I can see at-a-glance if there is water; easy to empty a little water out every day for fresh water; inside water stays clean; plenty of water on the outside for multiple chickens; unit itself is easy to clean. CONS: can't hang; once filled could be heavy for someone to carry to coop. ... show more
