It truly does self balance, the LED tires are bright and colorful, and the battery life has surpassed our expectations. I think he rides it at least three hours a day and we don't usually have to charge it until three days have gone by. It doesn't go scary fast, but it goes fast enough. This is more powerful than advertised, and as a 200lb adult it can zip me around with just as much ease as my 85lb son. If you've ridden on a hoverboard before, it is just like any other for the most part, and if you haven't, well the learning curve is actually not as steep as you might think. So far it holds a charge pretty well and we can get a lot of ride time out of it before it needs to get a recharge. The built-in speakers are actually cooler than I would have thought, and they're reasonably loud if you want them to be. The LED lighting is good, and it is quite bright, making this easy to see even in the middle of the day. The controls are responsive, and the build quality is top notch, and it has survived been banged around and ground off of curbs with no issues. Right out of the box we did notice kind of a weird squeak when turning, and that was before I ever got on it, so it wasn't a weight overload thing, but it is mild and easily overlooked. It is pretty fast too, 6.2mph might not sound like much, but standing on one of these 6.2mph is plenty fast. That said, we have noticed that if you start to go too fast, it will begin beeping at you, and then abruptly start to rapidly slow down. I don't know if it is a natural reaction to that with the operator, or if it is it a quirk in the board, but about half the time that happens what immediately follows is that it suddenly starts shifting in weird ways before you are thrown from it. With all of that said, I tried recalibrating the board just to see if that had anything to do with it, as that was not something I'd done with it at all. To do so, you set the board level on the ground with the two halves even lined up and power it off. Then power it on, but keep holding the power button for ~7-10s. It will start beeping and flashing lights at you, then just turn it off and back on again like normal. Since doing that calibration the weird speed death wobble hasn't happened, so I suspect it may have had something to do with a misalignment or something. Aside from that quirk which seems to be resolved, I'm quite happy with this board. It is smooth and fast, it is tough enough to withstand getting knocked around, and it has plenty of power for me to ride it (at least around the neighborhood, otherwise I doubt I'd get 7 miles out of it.) ... show more

Simple to read directions, didn't have to calibrate out of the box, it just worked. My only complaint and reason for the star deduction is it says there are 6 light modes and to cycle through you quick press the power button, but all that does is turn the board on and off.

I was kinda on the fence about getting this just cause they've always seemed too cool to be for real and always struck me as having a big learning curve especially for kids. Boy was I wrong. Got this for a 7 year old and they picked it up almost instantly. I even got on it myself after some prodding and was surprised how easy it was to get used to. The lights are cool and any kid using this is going to stand out and be visible to anyone driving nearby. We didn't play around with the audio but the sounds it makes during normal operation and turning on and off sound like they have some ooomph to them. We have a gotrax xr ultra scooter that an older kid's been using for a couple of years now and it's been super reliable and they love it. Only thing I've had to do on that one is change the brake pads. Hopefully this hoverboard will be as reliable and last as long as the gotrax scooter. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I got this for my 6 year old who is a 100th percentile height for his age, to try out, recognizing it might be too advanced for his age but he became a pro within hours!! This hoverboard is so awesome!! It’s bright and such an attention getter! I could say my boy is pretty spoiled with toys however this thing gave him the biggest smile when he saw it! He did initially learn to ride it by using a roller skate trainer we have. It took him less than 3 hours to become very comfortable. You can find one of these trainers on Amazon. The battery life lasts for hours! It’s easy to recharge. The unit is sturdy and heavy. Don’t forget the Bluetooth option!! I surprised him by playing some techno music out of nowhere haha!! He thought that was so cool!! The speakers are super clear sounding. Instructions mention different light options that did not work for me. It just turned the unit on and off but it doesn’t mention it in the listing here so it doesn’t bother me. I love the fact that in case of the overheating the unit will give you heads up by beeping and slowing down. I would highly recommend this! The hoverboard was ready to use right out of the box. It has quickly become my kids favorite toy. The charge lasts awhile. The built in blue-tooth speaker is a nice touch as well as the LED lighting. The kids were able to quickly learn how to ride it with no problems. Love it!
