I've been watching people cruising on these little machines for a while now. So, I figured, I might just bite the bullet and join the fold. The idea is a very attractive one: I live in San Francisco, city with pretty bad traffic, plenty of bike lanes (yeah, don't ride these things on sidewalks, please) and a rampant bike theft problem. How does one resolve those, and have a reasonable 2-5 mile commute in the city? Right - a scooter! It's as speedy as a bike, but I can also easily fold it, take it with me into the office, put it under my desk and not to play the daily guess game of "how many parts of my bike will be missing tonight". The jackpot in that game, if you are interested, comes in a shape of "oh, there is a cut lock, my bike is gone and now I get to report the theft to police who'll just shrug it away and give me a report copy". Which, in itself a lucky ticket of "go and handle it with insurance company, and, BTW, your bike is less than your deductible". You've never played that game? Lucky you. So, scooter. Why this one? Many reviews and price comparisons explain it. It's just a decent price/performance ratio: - enough range for any trip I ever might attempt on it and then some - plenty of speed if you are sane - decent build quality, but not to heavy to carry in one hand In one word: reasonable. It arrived in the biggest box I ever got in mail. And, somewhat surprisingly to me, they needed it: the scooter is pretty sizable. Which I was happy about: I'm come in 6'2" 220lb as standard, so need my means of transportation to match me. I'm telling you, not even all Toyotas do. And neither do many planes. But where were we? Right, building it. Well, that was beyond easy. The box contains the scooter, a charger, and 4 screws with a matching Allen wrench. Unfold the stem, put the handlebars on, affix with the 4 screws and you are in business. Speed wise - I'm yet to get the the limit. Gotten to 20 mph, and I don't dare to go faster, with those relatively small wheels and the below-par pavement of SF streets. Only a couple of times I felt I could use more power, and that was climbing a pretty impressive hill. And, again, 220lb here. One note: getting the push assist to work is a little confusing. Here how I do it: 1. Power it on pressing the power button on the handle. 2. Input "000" as code using the combination of "+", power, "+", power, "+", quick 2x power. 3. Start rolling. 4. Push "-". 5. The throttle (small lever under your right thumb) now controls the amount of power assist. Hope it helps! ... show more

    • Defective Scooter - Stopped Working Within a Month, Amazon Did Not Provide Full Refund as Promised

I did a lot of research when buying this scooter, and based off of online and personal reviews, I chose the Eclipse. I was thrilled to get this scooter and it worked excellently until a month in. I was walking with the scooter, turned it off to pause for a minute, and when I turned it back on, the scooter would not accelerate. It made a shuddering/stuttering sound coming from the battery when I tried to accelerate, as if the battery was trying to slow down the scooter itself. The scooter would not accelerate and made a terrible noise, making it completely unusable within a month of purchase. A huge problem with electric scooters can be build quality and reliability, and I thought that I made the right decision with GoTrax, however I am extremely disappointed. I was able to return the scooter because it was within a month of purchase, however Amazon DID NOT refund me the full amount, when they clearly stated they would. The scooter was in perfect condition, and I did not get a full refund for a defective product. I am not sure why I should not receive a full refund, for a DEFECTIVE product that was returned within a month of purchase. It's completely out of my control, and amazon did not hold up their end with fulfilling their return policies, that clearly state you will receive a full refund for a defective product.
