  • portable, cooling is great, need spare battery
NOTE: This review was for the 16 inch yellow and black geek aire fan that needs water supply line, not for this white one pictured now (wrongly) on Amazon page. Initially, while everything else worked, I was unable (as others have reported in their reviews) to get the water supply line to connect tightly to the unit, and water was "flooding" out of the connector, rather than going only to the fan-surround (the round "frame") and being released through the three nozzles. After reviewing my own installation of a quick push-to-fit connector just like this one, in fact for an under-counter water filter unit, I remembered that the PUSH needs to be really harder than one would think for a good tight insertion. Once I got this sorted out (details below if that's useful for people - I would love to have read something like this before I had started assembly!), the fan is amazing. The cooling effect downstream of the fan is very interesting. The airstream kind of forms a spiral, with a definite "center" and less mist (therefore less cooling effect) to either its left or right. Walking perpendicular to the fan and across the airstream, one can definitely feel it, and you can also see the mist pattern if you get the sun angled on it correctly. The cooling effect is really great close up (careful facing into the air flow with your eyeglasses - they WILL get wet too close up). It is still significant out to I would estimate 10-12 feet out from the front of the fan, with still some very noticeable cooling effect even farther out, estimate 15 feet away. The "cooling cone" is probably pretty broad and realistically I would estimate at ~60 degrees – that is, 30 degrees angle on each side of a center line if drawn straight out from the fan. It really made a massive difference in the hot Nashville air when it was 95 degrees outside and I had to work out there. Sitting and relaxing, it's still pretty incredible. Very relaxing and very recommended. • The fan is quiet, with really broad range and smoothness (no notable "indents" of "stepped speed) of speed control. • Try not to leave standing water inside the line when storing, even for few days. I noticed one of the bottom nozzles was spraying less than the other two, unscrewed it and used CLR or equivalent (maybe Zep brand was better) to decalcify (with very fine wire to help) and it came back to totally clean - reinstalled and all three ran the same. • Geek Aire provide a separate spare nozzle, which is GREAT. But, how to purchase more, in sets, as ready back-ups? • We need to be able to purchase spare batteries for extended usage outside. • I bet my battery would have lasted ~3 hours at almost full speed. Lower speeds = more battery life, and still very effective mister effect. • Some reviewers mentioned wishing they had a water flow control, but there is one - there is a right-angle water shut-off where your supplied hose connects, and it can be rotated to provide partial shut-off. I found that this worked really well. • Being able to wander around repositioning the fan is amazing! You are still, however, tethered to your water hose. I recommend one of the metal-sheathed 1/4 to 3/8-inch I.D. flexible hoses that is then fitted with quick-connect fittings. I also fitted a quick connect to the fan's water supply line, so that my hook up is "close to instant". TIPS ON GETTING A GOOD WATER SUPPLY-LINE CONNECTION TO THE FAN: I think that I have solved the supply-line connection problem, and I have included this “good and detailed tip” (below) on how to get the seal made properly. There is no voice-over on the Geek Aire video, and it would be good to hear about how HARD one really has to push to get the supply line pushed in deep enough to create a seal. [I applied the knowledge I had gained from working with similar quick-fit connectors when installing a “Fizzlife” under-counter water purification system. That one also required a really HARD push to get the supply line in deeply enough, so as not to have any leaks at all at the connection.] I have no flooding leaking now, and water goes out only through the mister nozzles. The tip is this: (1) When pushing the black supply line into the quick connect, the movable buckle at the mouth of the tee first needs to be pushed all the way in. (2) Also make sure that the black water supply line has been cut exactly straight across, with a perfect flat cut at right-angles to the pipe, with a SHARP razor knife. (3) Push the water supply line straight in (that is, pushing down, having the fan rotated - held between knees, or by someone else – so that it is “upside down”). (4) Do NOT stop when the resistance seems like you may have finished pushing in, carry on.You have to twist the supply line slightly back-and-forth while pushing quite a bit harder. The supply line will, rather suddenly, pop down just a bit more (few mm I estimate), which now inserts it fully into the quick-fit connector. (5) Now, pull back on the movable buckle (this is located at the mouth of the tee) – do not pull on the supply line – until a small gap appears that will allow insertion of the blue self-locking buckle. Do NOT install this blue buckle upside-down (in fact, I think Geek Aire's own video has it being installed upside down!) – the way to do this is to make sure that the small tab on the blue self-locking buckle will be facing “out/down” from the fan when it is inserted. This allows the blue piece to lock snugly, centered fully against the movable buckle at the mouth of the tee. The flat surface of that self-locking buckle (almost like a horseshoe washer) will be facing to the fan, the small tab on it needs to be facing "away from" the fan. SHORT SUMMARY ON SEALING: It is EASY to think you have pushed the supply line fully in, but it needs to pop just that little bit farther in before it will seal. ... show more

  • Great fan; Terrible battery and customer service
The fan itself is terrific. It generates significant air flow, is portable, and easy to set up. The problem is the battery. It is advertised to last all day. In fact, mine only lasts a little over 2 hours. This defeats the purpose of paying a premium to buy a rechargeable battery-powered fan. The customer service is equally poor. They appear to be trained to respond to service issues with a never-ending series of questions, designed to avoid actually replacing or repairing anything. Here's a sample of one of Geek Aire's responses. Please note that this came after a detailed description of the problem, and a response to their first form-letter customer service response: "In fact, the product you bought from our store can run 2~10 hours when the battery is fully-charged, you can find this information on its product page on Amazon(please check it in the attachment). And could you tell us where you see the information is advertised to "this product can run for 24 hours continuously"? Your feedback is our motivation for continuous improvement. Besides, we will be responsible all the no-human defective. If your fan's problem is indeed caused by the product itself, we will provide you with the corresponding after-sales service." So instead of fixing the problem of a battery that dies after 2 hours, they recommend buying more batteries. And guess what? There aren't even more batteries available to buy! My advice is to go elsewhere, unless you buy it in person in a store with a large amount of inventory on hand, and that quickly and easily replaces defective batteries. ... show more

  • Worth its weight in gold
This year as the Texas heat started its rampage I started looking for a misting fan that would I could possibly mount outside my home near my patio area. Every industrial misting fan I came across costed reckless prices that I was not willing to pay and usually the misting ring had to be purchased separately. While searching I came across this fan (the 16 inch version) which is not only weather proof, had a misting option, but it is also portable, able to run off of a battery, and charge my electronic devices. This fan is well built has a well thought out design and it has a reasonable amount of air moving power. I love the power indicator that is located around the power knob letting you know close to how much power you have left I also love that fan seems kinda rugged the back grille is made out of metal and not plastic. I also noticed that you can plug in the fan and charge it while it is running. When it is plugged in it gets a small power boost and puts out more air. After running the fan continuously on high by battery only it last around 3 hours around 2-1/2 hours though it started to lose some power and slow down a little. The misting function on this fan also works very well and the range is good. The mist comes out very fine and it does a great job keeping me cool without soaking me. I like this fan so far and I am curious to see how it holds up over time and how long the battery pack will last. I don't regret this purchase even in the slightest. If you are slightly deterred because of the price don't be, a good fan in the summer heat is worth its weight in gold. Update: 4/6/2021: Fan is still going strong and working good. The only two reservations that I have is that when I tilt the fan down sometime it doesn't want to stay in place. There needs to be adjustment knobs on the sides that I can tighten to keep the fan at a certain tilted angle. The other thing that I noticed is that it is nearly impossible to find a replacement charging adapter with the exact specifications. After stepping on my adapter by mistake I thought no problem I will just grab one online well it turns out I was wrong. The closest adapter substitute I could find was the adapters that are used for certain Dyson Vacuum models which has almost exact same power specs except for a slightly lower amperage. I ended up buying one of these type of adapters and it works fine but it does seem to struggle to keep the fan fully charged while its running. ... show more
