  • Good House Set
Great knives for home use. The steel is soft so they're going to need to be sharpened frequently. That's actually good because soft steel is easy to sharpen, less prone to rusting and also less prone to chipping. Just don't use them on a hard surface. Also, DON'T PUT THEM IN THE DISHWASHER! Just don't do it. Wash them in the sink and then put them away or else you're going to get rust spots on them. Lookit, there's no such thing as stainless steel. It doesn't exist, only steels with varying levels of rust resistance based on carbon content and other metals added to them. If you put these in the dishwasher and let them sit there they will get rust spots on them. The santoku is really small, almost like a toy, compared to my old 7 inch one. A santoku really doesn't need to be that big, at least not for me. This one isn't and it's more comfortable in the hand and easier to maneuver. It's also thinner so it's a great slicer. The set does include a boning knife and that's great. Boning knives are an up-sell tactic in the kitchen knife world and usually requires you to buy a really large (as in more steak knives than you will ever need) and unnecessarily expensive set to get one. This set is large but not overloaded with steak knives and not expensive so you can have a boning knife that matches the rest of the set. All things considered, if you want a nice set of kitchen knives for your home these are a great choice. I've been using mine pretty much daily for a month and I just can't find anything to complain about. EDIT: The honing rod is useless. Mind you, I've never been very good with one but this one is just plain ineffective. Throw it away or use it to fill the hole in the block, at least until you can find a good ceramic one that matches and actually works, just don't bother trying to use it. Besides, if you use your knives a lot you need a decent sharpener anyway, a REAL sharpener that doesn't simply grind away metal every time you use it. You can buy a Lansky rod sharpener in a turn box for like $15 and it works really well on this mushy sort of steel. The rods are short so longer knives will need to be sharpened in sections but it DOES work and you can always buy longer rods. EDIT 2: Headed into a year of regular use I still recommend these knives. However, I have noticed that there's a few minor flaws in the the machining of some of them. For example, the bolster on the big chef knife is a little lower than the blade itself. That means it creates a gap between the edge and the cutting surface occasionally preventing the knife from fully cutting through whatever you're cutting. It's an easy fix with a coarse file or grinder, but it is a thing. Other than that, I've seen nothing that affects their performance, just an uneven grind here and there, but this isn't surprising given the cost and it's a cosmetic issue only. They still cut fine and a good sharpener evens them right out. ... show more

  • Best for the money
I have been trying to buy a quality set of knives for a price I can afford right now. I lost a bunch of good German knives in a divorce and I really don't have the money to rebuy the German knives I want right now (how much are my lawyer bills again?) I have bought and returned 3 sets of knives from big box and department stores for glaringly atrocious quality out of the box. Things like bent blades, grind marks, uneven finish, chipped blades, and terrible fit and finish in the handle have been the reason I returned the knives immediately. This set of knives is none of those things. The knives have amazing fit and finish that is consistent among all the blades. I was fully expecting to return this set of CHEAP knives since I was buying higher priced knives and they all sucked. Not at all. If this is your price range, buy it. Skip the $150-$250 knives in the department stores. These are better. ... show more

  • Great Knife Set
I came into some gift cards for Amazon and my wife and I figured we could use some of it towards upgrading our knives/block set. The one we had was extremely old and a typical cheap one. We looked all over Amazon for the right set and right price. Without going extreme on an expensive name brand and spending hundreds of dollars we landed on this set. Reviews looked good, but I was a little worried about some of the things I read. After receiving the knife set I couldn't be any happier. Packaging was good and everything arrived fine. The knife block is really nice looking, sturdy, and heavy. I was also worried about the sharpness of the knives after reading reviews, but after using them they work great. They have the right amount of weight and feel great in the hand. I read a few people weren't happy with not being able to use them in the dishwasher, but I have a Wusthof chef's knife I received as a gift and have gotten used to just hand washing them after each use, it's not that bad. In the end I am extremely happy with this purchase, I love the knives. They look great, they work great, and the price for them is great. ... show more

  • Block angled too steep, can't pull knives out!
So the knives are fine, but the block is not angled properly. Compared to my old Cuisinart block, this stands nearly upright. I am sure that is fine for most folks, but if you have wall cabinets in your kitchen above your counter ... you can't pull the knives out of the top row! The block needs to be pulled out at least 6" from the wall to get the large knives out, which is silly. They need to cut the block at a different angle. ... show more

  • Emojoy Knife Set, 18-Piece Kitchen Knife Set with Block Wooden
The Emojoy Knife 18-Piece Kitchen Knife Set with Block Wooden is a great purchase for the price. Keep in mind a knife that can hold a sharp edge must have carbon in the steel to increase its hardness. This also makes the knife more brittle. If you drop it, it breaks. If you use it as a pry-bar it will snap in half. You must hand wash the knifes and dry them quickly or they will rust. If you place them in a dishwasher you will destroy them. The sharping tool is worthless. Get a good stone or the tool of your choice. The knifes are in the block on an angle that is bit tool steep. This makes it a bit hard to remove the larger knifes in the block. This I feel is the best information to know and understand before you buy a set. I hope this help someone out there looking at this knife set. ... show more

Excellent addition to our kitchen. The old set had to go. These are very well crafted. 18 piece set means a blade for everything. I also love that the steak knives are serrated. Highly recommend!

  • Beautiful. Holds a very sharp edge.
Santoku knife is a full 7 inch with large handle. Great heft and balance. Well made and we'll worth the price!
