This dvd player really works well. No tech., no big problem that only the younger set can figure out. Very easy to set up. Great screen. We forgot it would be smaller, but that is no problem. It is nice to have one that I can move around, and easily to dust under. We have a tv that is on the cusp of being non streaming. We don't think we can set up to stream, so we got a good cable package, and this dvd player. That should keep us in movies for quite awhile. Everyone knows how annoying the entire playback of non-US DVD's can be1 It is understandable, but still annoying when you've acquired a rare DVD from another country only to find it will not play on your machine when you get it home. I have many of those, and have learned to just not buy them. With this compact unit, it's a sure playback, do not have to worry if the DVD I've purchased from the UK will play. Lots of great features but does not play MP4 videos. The display keeps "OFF" illuminated when it is turned off. Would have been nice to have rubber feet to stop it sliding around when inserting a disc.

Before buying this player I reviewed all the good and bad reviews. As usual, there were both to be reviewed. I dismissed those from shipping damage and not working out of the box. Then a few complained about the remote or fast forward or fast reverse. Most other reviews were very positive. A couple of the bad reviews in my estimation were due to owner ignorance. (One person complained because it didn't come with two AAA batteries as needed.) My DVD player came through shipment in good shape and was packed well by the manufacturer and the shipper. As for the remote, it is no better or no worse then the remote shipped with my Sony Blue Ray player. It is not bullet proof but equal in quality to most remotes shipped with equipment today. The manual is well written which was a surprise. (Not in Pig Latin) Unfortunately, the manual is not totally accurate for the supplied remote. But, even though the control has too many buttons for my satisfaction, it is fairly intuitive. Someone mention they could not forward or reverse the player or stop start from where you left off. This is not true. All these things can be done but for example when you push the stop button it stops but then you must push the start/stop symbol button to start it again from where you left off. This is a different button with just a symbol on it and is not the stop button. If you had pushed the power button and then turned the player on again it would not start from where you were when you turned it off. The bottom line is experience will teach you how to work around the players little quirks. If you watch a DVD in it's entirety, the quarks won't be noticed. I did notice when you boot up the player it may not take you to where you want to be on the DVD. Push the MENU button and it will take you to an area where you can select where you want to be on the DVD. (A series I have contains two TV shows on one disc. The menu button takes me to a page allowing me to select which show I want to watch.) Bye the way, this player is exactly the same size as my small Sony Blue Ray player.) The player has a permanently mounted US AC power cord attached to the player. (No plug in power adapter needed.) The picture quality of the player is good too. I have not noticed quirky jumping around the DVD either. It plays well. So for the money, this is a good choice. I'm glad I purchased it. I needed a player that would allow me to watch DVDs from other REGIONS. (I have an interest in War TV series and War movies from around the world thus requiring a universal region DVD player.) Yes, I would buy it again if needed. I'm a Broadcast Engineer and know a little about what I am talking about. I think most potential buyers of this player will be satisfied with it. You will just have to learn your remotes small quirks. Intuition and trial and error will get you there. It's not a big deal. ... show more

Liked this DVD player from the start, easy to use the remote - that's important for old people - Suddenly the player just stopped working, would not come on at all. I contacted the support site and sent an email asking for helpful hints to perhaps reset it or restart it. I received a response in a very timely manner. After submitting a copy of my original invoice, the company is replacing my DVD player. One cannot ask for better service than that! Excellent customer service and in my opinion, an excellent DVD player. With very poor customer service in other places, it was a pleasure to deal with this company! ... show more

First one received had been damaged, but they replaced in two days! Second one is perfect. Plug and play, easy! Used the HDMI cord and the unit worked just great with my smart tv and sound bar. You have to switch the input on your TV to this HDMI but I have always had to do that with a DVD player. Easy to set up, great pic and sound. Very happy with this purchase! ... show more

    • Everything But The sound Works
I am chronically ill and easily confused by mental tasks and wanted a DVD player that was supposed to be simple to use. This was about as simple as it comes. Literally plug and play. The buttons on the front of the device are basic, just what I wanted. The remote, however, is pretty complicated. I looked forever to find the basic buttons I needed on it. Picture quality is just fine for the price but the sound... Initially there was no sound. I tried all the obvious solutions (is it muted? Will another dvd work? Try a different hdmi cable. Switch the hdmi port.. Etc.) and nothing worked. I decided to just unhook it and put it back in the box but forgot to stop the playback of the DVD I had in (because I get confused) and when I picked the device up the sound popped on then stopped again. After that the sound continued coming in and out. It only worked in short bursts of a few words then went silent for minutes. I got hopeful and continued trying to get the sound to just come on fully but no luck. I was too worn out cognitively to call customer service after about 30 minutes of this and just left it hooked up and powered off. When I'm up to tackling this issue again I'm calling customer service and will see if they can help me with this. If we're able to get the sound working I'll change the rating.     • Good product - easy setup
This DVD player came well packaged with all that is need to hook up to the TV and start using it. It worked as soon as the power and cables were attached. I did, however, need to make a couple changes in the DVD setup to make it more compatible with my TV, and the instruction manual was clear and easy to follow so that the setup changes took only a few minutes and everything looks and sounds as it should.
