The description was unclear so i asked the community if this played HD DVDs (HD DVD is an older high def format that competed with Blueray and lost). Someone replied that it does so I ordered. I can say definitively that this unit does NOT play HD DVDs. Sending back for a refund.

This is by far the best dvd player I ever owned. It plays everything under the sun and loads the DVD very quickly. It is only 9" wide, half the size of the old clunkers I got rid of. If you turn it off before finishing a movie it remembers the location when u turn it back on. The remote is high quality, not one of those cheap card-types with bubble buttons. It would be nice if it were more powerful. I can't bounce it off the TV, must point the remote at the player. Be sure not to lose the remote. Keep it in a VERY safe place away from the dog. You can only load and play DVDs from the front keys -- there is no ability to set anything via screen menus. ... show more

I bought this player in December of last year '23.For the past 3 months the player hasn't been working well. It gets hot to fast (so no dvd marathon's)The player will freeze if it's too hot. It rattles when on pause also, after 5 minutes it will shut off.I will not be purchasing a cheaply made dvd player again, like this one.It completely doesn't work now. ... show more

Easy to use and set up inexpensive DVD player, but the DVD spinning when it is playing can sound like one of those old school film projectors so you might want to set DVD player in a cabinet to hide the sound.
