The gate requires a level to install because if it is off in any direction it will pop off and it does so with a good amount of stored energy. This is due to the top bar being bent out slightly to give it a super snug fit when installed. The first time the gate popped out of place was when our Newfie, who is not accustomed to hardwoods, slid head first into it after attempting to get to some guests at the front door. He is 160lbs so I'm sure even a screwed in gate would have come off. I reinstalled using a 5ft level and checked to make sure it was perfectly installed - again. The second time it came off happened when our cat (all 9lbs of his scrawny self) jumped off from the top of it. The gate flew out about 4 feet, the tension screws another 4 feet. After that I immediately measured and re-setup the gate using the screw-in holders. Hopefully this will alleviate any future problems. I would recommend that everyone use these little pieces due to the amount of tension placed on the gate. Regarding installation: It would be nice if the extension pieces could snap in or screw in in some way. While trying to measure/screw the tension bolts into place it can be a little unwieldy to line everything up. These are THE BEST baby gates out there. When my daughter was little we had a climber who scaled the regular baby gates like a monkey so in came Dreambaby. Because of the vertical slats she couldn't get her foot in anything to catapult herself over the gate. That was about 8 years ago and we still own and use them. We still have one gate upstairs in case the littlest decides to travel half asleep down the stairs, another at the top of the basement stairs to keep the kids out of hubby's office space during meetings (they can open it now so it's more of a visual sign to them to leave him alone when the gate is closed) and we just purchased the two-pack deal to keep the new fluffy child (puppy) contained to the kitchen. These gates have withstood quite a bit of abuse from the kids, a move to a new home and they still look new - they are durable, easy to open (both ways which is awesome) but not so easy for young children to open (it took my daughter years to figure out how to open them) and they're tall which buys you time. I also like that they have the extension pieces in case you have a wider doorway and they don't look like baby gates - they're more stylish and will fit in with any home decor. After reviewing multiple baby gates I decided that this would be the best product for my needs. I needed to close a large open gap and that limits your options when looking for baby gates. The product is well made but has a disadvantage of becoming more unstable when adding multiple connections. I close a gap that was approximately 80 inches across. If using this product on hardwood floors I suggest adding felt or some other material so to avoid scratching the floors because every time the gate closes the whole thing will flex and will cause the bracing on the bottom to scratch and or rub against finished floors. This would not be so much of a problem with carpet, but just something to be aware of if you want to protect your floors. So overall the product is well-made but becomes less stable as you add extensions. The company does recommend only one extension be added to each side, so make sure when you’re ordering that you keep that in mind. ... show more

These gates are a good value, easy to install, sturdy and they work exactly as its advertised. I originally bought the Regalo gate, but returned it for this one because the actual gate, or part you walk through, is about 2.5" wider on this gate than the Regalo which only messaured about 16.5". That is the only flaw with the Regalo so if that feature is not important to you save the extra money and buy the Regalo. This gate was a little easier to install because the wall cups came with double sided tape to hold them in place while screwing them into the wall. This gatae looks nicer with the curved top, but both gates were eqaually sturdy. The Dreambaby has a gate, or walk through space, of about 19" which is perfect. But the draw back is that the gate is harder to open than the Regalo and it will not stay open without propping it open. The Regalo stays open if left open and the handle is much easier to work. I almost returned the Dreambaby gates to order two of the Regalo, but the extra wide opening was important to me. ... show more

Live in a tri level, so enter in main floor and have stairs up/ stairs down, we have 4 of these gates and like them. Two little kids. We looked at tons of gate options and these seemed to be the safest by far, the biggest bang for your buck. PROS: Rock solid steel, easy to open one handed, can lock when closed. 2 year old kids can climb all over and these gates wont budge. Each box comes with an extension so will work with any width of stairwell/ door way. The gates close on their own so you open, walk through and let go- saves time with 4 of them! We use white plastic chain and wall hooks to keep them open when not in use. CONS: MADE IN CHINA- I'm not surprised, but would like to see more made in my country to keep the jobs coming and the money at home! Gate opening itself is relatively small, have to lift things over if they are very big. Install is not as quick as a normal baby gate, you wouldn't want to be removing these and replacing them daily. ... show more
