Liked it so much we bought 2 more to replace our other gates. Installation is easy. Has a threshold under the gate which prevents tripping and allows you to rollover it without catching. Also helps to stabilize the gate. Best part, you can pressure fit it to a wall or use the included attachments to fit to a stair post. Door mechanism is solid and does require you to push the button and pull up to open. Opens in either direction adding to the convenience. We have had 3 other brand of "baby gates" which we use for our 160lb dogs that they were able to push thru or topple. Cumbor barriers HOLD the line. I got this pet gate. It came 1 day late. I installed it to block access to the stairs. It really works and was quite easy to install. My wife loves it!. I would rate the quality of the build as relatively high. This is not a flimsy product. Could the build quality be higher? Yes, I would give this gate 8.5 out of 10.0. As anyone reading this might guess, we are not sending the gate back. I read some of the negative reviews. To be honest, I don’t agree. Perhaps, this gate was flawed in the past. However, the gate I installed was not flawed. The extensions (I used two of them) were quite sturdy and fitted the gate rather well. The wall anchors worked as described. Some minor notes. I got the wide and tall (36 inches) version of this product. I measured the stairs before I bought the gate and it fits properly. I recommend the same approach. We bought this to keep our new puppy from going upstairs. I shopped around for a long time trying to find a gate within a gate that was not flimsy and cheaply made. This gate is perfect for our needs. I screwed the cups into the drywall on one side (and used the adhesive), and used the adhesive cups on our metal banister pole to secure the other side. The gate and latching mechanism seem very reliable and solid. Assembly and installation was relatively easy. I did over-think/engineer the installation to make sure it was perfectly level (but I also did not install it directly on the floor.) If you are curious, the wall cups are 28.25 inches center apart on each side. The only thing that I could think to improve would be the auto-close feature. If you allow it to auto-close from 5-25 degrees ~ 4 - 8 inches -- it latches itself reasonably without slamming. If you let go with the gate open beyond that, it does slam pretty hard/loud. It does hit hard, but no initial signs that it will break over time -- just from a pessimistic engineering perspective, it sounds like a lot of abrupt energy transfer. I might look into something I can add to it to achieve a softer close. Tl;dr - Sturdy, well-constructed, easy install, aesthetically pleasant, functional, don't let it slam. :-) UPDATE: 3/14/25 Ultimately we ended up having to take it down because our Great Pyrenees and Rottweiler discovered that they can jump over the gate, rendering it more of a nuisance for us. The gate had still been holding up exceptionally to 4 dogs, and 6(2 big, and 4 little) people using it dozens of times a day. I would still recommend it if you don't have creatures that can hop over it. Despite the environment for exceptional abuse, it has withstood everything except the altitude necessary to deter two very large animals. This is one of the few updates I have given to an Amazon review, but for value of money, this one deserved a second kudos. My two dogs mentioned -- both terrible, but we treat them well. (Jk we love them very much, and treat them very poorly). :-) ... show more

I bought this gate so that my daughter's new puppy can't get up the stairs to do his business - the upstairs family room seems to be a favorite of his! Our stairs are not well designed for a bay/dog gate, so it took some looking to find this one. I had to install it a bit on the crooked side since we don't have walls on both sides of the stair bottom, but I was able to make it work. FYI, this gate is not the easiest to figure out. The instructions are fairly minimal but after some re-reading, I finally figured out how to make it work. There are 2 options for installation, one using compression (that's what I used) and one using screws for a permanent install. I'm hoping to take this down once the puppy is fully potty trained and doesn't think our family room is a bathroom. (He is a pretty cute pup, though, and very affectionate.) ... show more

This gate is very sturdy and looks very nice. We bought 2 for our staircase (top and bottom) for when our granddaughters visits. Installation is very easy, but if you plan to remove the gates you should zip tie the gate closed before uninstalling. It needs pressure applied and spreads apart where it won’t latch after uninstalling, at least until you install it again. That’s why it comes with the gate zip tied closed and an extra zip tie is included. We didn’t use the screw-in mounts (permanent installation) or the stick on mounts. Enough pressure can be applied using the bolts/pressure end caps to hold the gate securely. The extra pieces make it easy to find a combination to fit just about any opening, including wide openings. At the bottom of our stairs, due to the varying width of the posts from top to bottom, we were in between 2 different installation configurations. The instructions say that if that happens, the gate won’t work, but it did for us. We used the wider of the 2 configurations. ... show more

We have an extra wide staircase to our basement. This fit perfectly and it has nice padded attachments for rounded Bannister rails. We could attach it without hurting the wood.
