I like that they have a light, a radio, multiple ways to charge, and a USB port that you can charge by hand cranking the battery. Will your arm get tired? Sure - but if no power is available and you need it to work fast, having options is important. It is light weight without feeling overly cheap. It is easy to use and while not tiny, it can be hooked onto a bag using a molle clip around the handle. If you have a ham walkie with integrated radio channels maybe you don't need this - but most people aren't going to do that and no walkies I have seen have the ability to hand crank to generate power. ... show more

I use this for a bedside radio and its alright. The digital volume control works well. 2 is just loud enough to hear, and the drain on the battery is tiny. I can play it maybe 8 hours per night for ten days or more before the battery runs down. The hand crank is tiresome, but it works. Solar charging requires a lot of bright sun. This was bought as a Father's day gift. He loves a radio that he can carry around with him and listen to when he works outside or in the basement. Reception and sound is good. He did need help setting up the radio and weather stations for our area. He loves the light for reading. It's easy to use. He especially likes that it flips up and casts enough light to read by. What he didn't like about it was that the batteries don't come out Apparently that's a big deal so I took off a star for that. This radio is a great size. I have not had to use it in an emergency, however, I did test the functions. The flashlight is super powerful. I did charge it via usb, and it charged fairly quickly. My aunt, who is in her 80's, absolutely loved this. I gave it to her as a gift, right after Helene hit our area. I charged it up over night, and it kept going for a week afterwards. She listened to the radio, used it as a nightlight, and set the alarm so she could get up and feed her cats on their normal schedule. Bought this radio in 2023, charged it up and put it in my storm shelter. Luckily didn't need to use it. Fast forward to our recent storms...I knew it was going to be bad so I went to the shelter and grabbed all my battery operated devices, charged them overnight and returned them to the shelter. We ended up in the shelter from these storms and I needed the radio. When I went to turn on the flashlight that this radio comes with, nothing happened. The radio was completely unusable. Nothing on it worked. It wouldn't power on at all! I was in my storm shelter, with my young son, with no light, no radio, no way too charge my phone. I bought this radio, so I could do all those things, in times like this and it FAILED me. It's nothing more than an expensive, red, paperweight! ... show more
