  • So much fun!!
Color: Pink Machine With 5 Flavors
The media could not be loaded. First off, i LOVE cotton candy. I even discovered gourmet cotton candy and yes, there is a difference. It’s pricy and worth every penny. This thing doesn’t make the best cotton candy but, It’s just fun! When I pulled it out of the box we all squealed. It’s even cotton candy pink! My 8 year old daughter and 6 year old son and I had a blast using this. It was easy to set up and use. It did take me 2 times to get the hang of it and that’s part of the fun. If you’ve been doing different flavors you get this delicious candy left in the bowl. It’s almost like rock candy. The bowl was so easy to clean, I just took a paper towel and wiped it clean over my trash can. The cotton candy itself was kind of gritty. The better we got at it, the less gritty it was, but it still was. So I don’t know if it was our technique, the machine or the sugar. If I figure it out I will let you guys know. ... show more

  • What you really need to know from someone who has done this before...
Color: Pink Machine With 5 Flavors
About 15 years ago rented a commercial machine form a party store and swore never agin, made a huge mess. That one made too much candy to catch up with for me. Had used a smaller "commercial" machine in college for a fair that was not as messy and thought I could handle it, and this one is a good compromise for home use. IT DOES TAKE PRACTICE. Decided to try this one after reading several independent reviews from different groups as well as the ones on here. It was voted in the top 5 machines for home last year. My daughter wanted this for her birthday. At first try I would have given this a lower rating, I read the directions and did as it said but it stuck to the sides and got charred spots when touching the metal spinner in the middle. There was hardly any candy on the cone. Tried again the next day after watching the video from the manufacturer. It does help to see exactly how they spin the cone and realized I needed to hold it higher at the top of the plastic shield once it built up. Also realized the times are off and did much better the second time around. IF you watch the video and let it warm up for ten minutes, not 2-3, then wait until the first string of candy forms a web from each side of the bowl to catch it onto the cone you can actually get the size they show on the box. For being sticky sugar it really does come right off the plastic bowl easily when washed, and wipes easily off the motor head with a damp cloth. We made about 5 cones of candy in a row. I do not know how long it would work before having too much build up on the sides, it may not be best for a large party but OK for a small one. You might have to pry off the build up on the sides of the bowl in between to make more. It does get hot so I would NOT suggest leaving it on for hours at a time, just like any other small kitchen appliance that heats up you would not want your toaster running for 3 hours. I have a laser surface thermometer and pointing it in the middle of the motor where the light and heat are generated the temp. ranged between 300 and 600 during use for 5 cones. My main complaint would be it does smell, as some of the sugar inevitably slips under the floss head into the motor and gets stuck, unable to be cleaned. You just have to let it "burn" off. But the rest of the unit is very easy to clean. My kids love the flavors. The cotton candy is pretty good, not as good as a big machine or what you get fresh on the boardwalk, but you can't really expect it to be. Kids don't care about the slight difference in taste. ... show more

  • No real problems with the setup, process, or clean up whatsoever.
Color: Pink Machine With 5 Flavors
I don't know what the people who have left negative reviews were expecting. My experience was 100% positive. Here's my list of why: 1. I didn't even notice until I had made a mountain of cotton candy, but inside the box was a card with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. 2. Nothing is left out. The kit is complete. And what makes it special is that you get MUCH more than a teaser. You realistically get enough cotton candy supplies to enjoy over and over again. 3. Simple design was easy to assemble and required no tools to put the 4 pieces together. 4. Making the only confectionery creation more heavenly than sugar is a messy task. This machine cleans up with water and a damp cloth. Side note: I was able to make so much candy I literally couldn't eat any more and only had to wash the floss head and basin 1 time during and once after I was done. Here's what I would have changed: 1. The top guard is worthless. It gets in the way of having enough room to position the cone to most effectively remove the floss before the head contacts the deposited candy and pulls it back toward the center which starts the mess that'll need to be dealt with eventually. My tip is to make a 3 sided enclosure like a voting booth to guarantee the stuff is contained, or like me just have fun with it and realize that it's cotton candy from your kitchen. It's going to make a mess. Make the kids clean it up. (FYI there was no floss that I could see escape the lower basin. With that in mind, and if it was my decision, I would get rid of the top and make the bottom basin larger. 2. The cord is short. Copper is expensive so I get it, it just is slightly inconvenient. 3. Making nice looking fluffy clouds of wonderful spun sugar takes a little trial and error to learn to do. I think that every person who has been tasked with making cotton candy would show you a different method so learning buy reading, and I'm sure trying to teach people how through written language, is a stumbling block. I have no solution for this problem. All I can say is that the more candy on the paper cone the easier it is to collect new candy so dont worry if starting is troublesome. Keep trying you'll figure it out. Overall I wish I had purchased this a long time ago because I am going to get the most out of it. Birthdays, holidays, Mondays, Tuesdays, etc. will never be without the possibility of a normally rare treat. Have confidence in the fact that you can do this, and get over yourself and realize that sometimes the mess is worth the experience. Enjoy. ... show more

  • How fun!
Color: Pink Machine With 5 Flavors
My kids and I had a great time making the candy. It's a bit messy and you should definitely watch the video. I'm not sure if you're *supposed* to, but I just pulled off the melted candy on the sides of the bowl, broke it into pieces, and put it back in the spinner. Very little waste that way. Personally, I think it is definitely for the cost. ... show more
