Have a pup who always wants to go onto balcony and I was getting tired opening and closing the door. This gizmo actually works! I had to create a 1/2 inch base for the inside piece because the doors here have a metal flange that gets in the way of using it as is. So I built up a base with a small piece of wood, attaching it to the doorframe with extra strong velcro, then attached the latch to that with velcro. I live in an old house and the door is offset from the foundation settling so it didn't fit perfectly. We wound up screwing it into the door and wall rather than just using the adhesive. We also filed down the sticky-outy-bit (totally a technical term) that holds the latch in place because it was too tough for my small hands to open with the offset door jam.
