I have used this product for 10 years, and Medium Warm Brown always gave me a perfect reddish-brown that matched my original hair color better than any other temporary color on the market. I get a salon coloring job several times each year and in between I’ve used this, and it’s good enough that even the salon stylist says “keep doing what you’re doing, it’s great.” Except the last 2 bottles aren’t. The color that comes out is probably closer to the picture on the bottle — just a dull dark brown, with no highlights at all. It also doesn’t leave my hair as shiny. I’m disappointed. I planned to wait out my slow transition to gray hair this way, but this option is pretty unattractive. I’ll try mixing colors, but either I got some strange bottles or they’ve messed with a great formula. ... show more

This has been my go-to hair dye for the last several years. As a pale skinned, naturally dirty-blond haired gal (now with some grays!), I have always needed additional color to help bring some warmth to my face. For years I used permanent dye, but after doing it for so long I noticed 3 things: my hair was getting increasingly drier and more damaged; my hair was increasingly getting thinner (I was actually shedding a ton more than when I was younger; my roots were showing up really badly between dyes (meaning I was increasing the frequency ….hence more damage, and a never ending cycle). I needed a solution! This semi-permanent dye was it! Clairol Professional covers well, blends in easily, covers my roots (I still sometimes do a root touch up in between monthly dyes), doesn’t smell too strong, is easy to apply, and provides beautiful color. It fades gently over time (I actually end up with more red at the roots and a more golden hue at the ends after a couple of weeks, which gives a great ombré look and gets lots of compliments!). Most importantly it is gentle! I LOVE IT! The only downside is that it does wash out gradually, meaning that some towels get marked, but they do totally clean up in the wash (I still suggest using an old one so you don’t risk your best towels). Application time is 25 minutes and is totally worth it. I will keep using this as long as they keep making it, and hope never to have to change. Ps. The first picture I posted was probably a couple of days after dyeing; the second was probably about 3 weeks after, so you can see how it looks when the color fades / washes out. I am trying this because regular color is drying it my hair. My stylist recommend color wash instead. So this does not last long because its just a wash. It it delivers great color!! I am surprised I can use it often. But it is gentle enough. Color washes out after about 4-5 washes. I will stick to it because I don’t want the harsher cor treatments. I have naturally wavy very dry hair and normally when I was coloring it (haven't done so in about 2 years) with semi-permanent color it would always turn out black, even using light brown color because my hair was so porous. I'd been thinking about coloring it again , but wanted something very simple and semi-permanent because I hate grow out lines. I'm 63 and my hair was probably 50% Gray, mostly at the top. My natural color before I started going gray was a dark brown with some red undertones when in the sun. I found this product and I ordered the medium Ash Brown, hoping with the ash I would not get any brassiness from my natural undertones of red. Amazed that my hair turned out medium brown without any brassiness or black. On top of my head it just looks like a lot of lighter colored highlights which I actually love. My hair is actually softer than it was before I colored it and as I said I have naturally porous wavy frizzy hair. I only wash my hair once a week, because it is on the dry side, so hoping the color lasts at least a month if not longer. My hair is too my shoulder blades and I've always hated coloring my hair which is why I stopped doing it, but this was very very simple. ... show more

I used this product a couple years ago and it was easy to use and did not dry my hair out at all. I noticed several reviewers mentioned that it did not come in a box or had any instructions. WELL, the photos for the listing do not show a box. AND the instructions ARE on the package. In the lower right hand corner of bottle it says peel. Meaning to peel it up and it then exposes additional product information as well as the instructions. I purchased this from Amazon recently and was very pleased with how quick it arrived and how well it was packaged. The packaging was perfect, the bottle was intact and did not lead or spill whatsoever. The seller must have resolved whatever breakage/leaking issue there was that previous reviewers mentioned. I however realized I purchased the wrong product. I meant to purchase the Advanced Gray Solutions version. I returned this item but would recommend it to anyone that isn’t sure. The price point is good and there are many shades to choose from. Plus if you don’t see a color that you love you can mix different shades together to achieve the color you desire. Best part is it washes out over time which you can accelerate with cleansing shampoos. Or just like with any hair color you can use a color care shampoo and conditioner to extend the color. ... show more

My friend began coloring her hair with a different shade of this product, & I noticed over the weeks how shiny/healthy her hair was all of the sudden. I asked what she was using, & she attributed her hair health to switching to this hair dye from one of the harsher brands, as well as a new conditioner she'd been trying. On gut instinct I tried this hair color product, & I'M NEVER LOOKING BACK!! 😍💃🕺💕👏👏 It is wonderful!! Where have you been my whole graying life????? Aaaaah! It's ok at least I've found you now, my precious. 😍😂 To apply, it is a smidge more tedious, for me, anyway ... you first have to gently shampoo your hair with whatever shampoo you normally use, then after a *very light* towel dry, apply this product. Note: It does Not come with gloves, so BYOG - Bring Your Own Gloves - to the shower / application experience to avoid the dreaded Oompa Loopma color stained hands. I've tried it both ways, & in my experience, just putting it on blindly while standing or sitting inside your shower seems to work best. Trying to stand over your bathroom counter so you can watch in the mirror to see what you're doing during application is a not-needed drippy, sloppy, aggravating pirate-mouthed drama you *just don't need*. Just put your waterproof (vinyl, latex, etc) gloves on, hop into the shower, shampoo just 1x, rinse, wring your hair out a little bit in-shower, then apply the coloring product just trusting your gut & your gloves to work it through your whole head of hair from scalp to end. Also just a tip, the product seems to work better the wetter your hair is to some extent, so that's another reason to go with the in-shower method. I also brought a handy-dandy hair tie into the shower w/ me, so that after I'd saturated my hair with the color product, I put my hair into a bun so as to avoid the constant color-dyed streams of wetness dripping down me while I waited the necessary time for the color to do its job. The box recommends 25 minutes of wait-time once you've applied it, so I just use this time to bathe, shave, etc. Then all you do is rinse & condition normally with your own conditioner. (No conditioner included, but that's ok, the results are worth it, trust me.) If you must leave the shower to go chill somewhere for the 25 minutes while you wait for the dye to work, I'd recommend the bun idea plus tying a plastic grocery bag over your hair to further prevent drips/stains. It looks JUST AS TRASHY (haha no pun intended) as it sounds, but it works super great & you can just toss the bag after use. (Or recycle, of course.) Anyway, the results of this hair product ARE FABULOUS!! The very very first time you use it, you may see some small tinges where the product didn't knock away alll of your grays completely. However, not to worry, because after a few weeks when you're ready for the 2nd application, the color 100% builds upon itself & your grays WILL be covered after that 2nd round. Any small gripes with this product are so worth it, because ... IT DOESN'T DRY OUT YOUR HAIR! Hooraaay!! 🎉🎊 My hair is shinier than ever since switching to this product just 4 weeks ago! Happy dance initiated!!💃🥊👏💕💃😍 Thank GOD for this product honestly, because my hair had become so fried out from regular coloring, I was about to give in and just go gray all the way, but I really didn't wanna! And I don't have the tax-bracket-status to visit a salon more than say, oh, once a year. So please, you owe it to yourself to at least try this product; I have a lot of hair, about medium-length, & I get 2 full uses per bottle. Which makes it affordable (aka possible) for me to buy. I am very allergic to products containing ammonia or peroxide. I still like to colour my hair and have significant grey these days. I have used this product for 3 years and it is great. I leave it on longer than recommended (sorry!) about an hour and get pretty long lasting colour. I need to refresh just when the roots grow through. It does lighten a bit over time and the darkest brown tends to go a bit purplish in the sun over time. However, overall, it's a lifesaver for me! Be aware no gloves in the pack so get prepared.
