Simple assembly like the video they show. The assembly took about 10-15 mins with a little experience. Gan is really light weight. Being a DC fan it pushes a lot of air. Only draw back is I can’t get the advertised “APP” to control from your phone. Followed the direction, scanned the QR code and no go. Being a techie this was a disappointment but not a deal breaker for the price. Only reason 4 stars is there is no ground wire, app doesn’t work and no pre hanging loop. The Surtime ceiling fan is easy to assemble. All the electrical connections are already made. You only have to install the fan blades. Most of the parts are made out of plastic, but looks well made. The screws are threaded into plastic only. The electronics module lays loose in the canopy. To install to the ceiling, you loosen one screw and twist off the base. The base mounts to the electrical box or directly to the ceiling. Screws are provided. Once the electrical connections are made, the fan twists onto the base and is secured by one screw. There is no ground connection and the electronics module has a double insulated symbol. There are no safety approvals. The manual has a couple of different instructions on how to pair the remote. The "press the Pair Code button for 3 seconds within 3 seconds after light on" worked. The layout of the remote is not very intuitive, but it appeared to work reliably. I did not try the smart phone app, which is not mentioned in the manual. The color temperature is controlled by two buttons, one selects up or down in some steps that do some smaller and larger steps. Another button selects between three different color temperatures. There is also a nightlight setting that sets the color temperature to the midrange and the lowest brightness. If power is turned off with the wall switch for more than 10 seconds, the color temperature setting is retained. But the brightness setting is not. By turning the power back on faster than 10 seconds, the color temperature cycles to the next setting. So you can control the color temperature without the remote. The light is not that bright, but might be OK for a smaller room. The brightness adjustment range is limited, a lot less than the 10-100% as specified. Subjectively it looks more like 50-100%. The fan is relatively quiet with some slight scraping sound that might go away after longer use. Even though there are 6 speeds, they are not that different. It would have been nice to have some slower speeds when you just want some air movement. For a relatively low price, the fan is OK if you don't need to have the ability to dim the lights more or don't need a slower fan speed. ... show more

Second picture is the one that needed to be replaced! Got it off easily and now the new one is up and running! I'm a 68 year female and I was able to follow the directions and get it hung without much trouble. It has 6 fan speeds but I don't really feel more than slow and fast. Slow isn't too slow either. The light can be very bright! It can be dimmed but not too low. I'm very happy with how it works and how it looks. Much more modern and I'm impressed with the brightness of the light and it can be warm or bright white. It's in my craftroom/extra bedroom so the two light colors will be great. ... show more

Our house leans contemporary, and until recently, many ceiling fans were very traditional. That's what we replaced this with, and--yes, it's very "cheap" plastic--it looks great. Installation is simple. You need 2 wires--black and white. If you're replacing an existing fan that has an operating wall switch, you may also have a red wire in the electrical box. That's a hot lead and the one you should use (explanation below). Installation is easy. There's a disk that unmounts from inside the base. This has the wires from the house fed through it and gets screwed to the ceiling. This disk has a hook you can hang the fan from as you connect your wires. Then the fan is twisted onto the base and a small screw prevents it from being unscrewed. There is no ground, but the entire outer structure of the fan is plastic so it's non-conductive, so a ground is unnecessary. Still, I'd have preferred it, but I'm not concerned that it's missing. The fan works well. The remote is a little off-putting. IDK who designed it, but it's bizarre. There's on and off for the light. There's forward and back for fan direction (2 buttons). There's off for the fan and off for everything. Fan speeds are adjusted by number buttons (1-6). 1 and 6 are in the middle, of the remote, while 2-5 surround a center button. There's a light intensity button. Dimming works okay, but low isn't very dim. I could never get the night-light to work. It has 3 light temperatures, much like you're probably used to (cool, warm, daylight). Warm is a decent match to traditional incandescent or halogen bulbs. The remote is where it lost 1* for me. It's not unusable, but it's also not user friendly. I don't often need to look at the manual to learn how to use a remote, but I needed to reference it in this case. Overall, it's an attractive fan. The white plastic isn't a stark white, so it doesn't look cheap. It comes with all the parts needed, regardless of what you're mounting it into. It's easy to assemble and easy to install. It should take the average user under 30 minutes once the wires are prepared. Remember to shut off your breaker! RED WIRE EXPLAINED: If your existing ceiling fan is connected to a light switch to turn the lights on and off, chances are good the fan operates regardless. This is achieved with the use of a hot lead (a wire that's always on), and these wires are usually red in color to indicate the hot lead status. If you connect this fan to the black and white wires, then it will only operate when the switch is on. If you instead connect the black wire from the fan to the red, hot lead, then the fan always has power, regardless of the switch. Then you can use the remote to turn the fan/light on or off. ... show more

Wife wanted a new fan and better lighting in her craft room. This little fan does that and then some the led light is bright when needs to be and with the remote and or app on her phone she can dim it down as need be. The fan is ultra quiet and moves the air nice. it was a breeze to install and assemble, only problem I had was the batteries for the remote where no good but not a big deal was going to use my own name brand anyway but did try them just to see. ... show more
