I have only had fountain 2.5 days but I'm thrilled already. Within a few hrs of set up, my cat was drinking from it (he slept thru 1st few hrs) & he has rtn'd to it quite a few x's for a drink. I recently bought the regular drinkwell fountain which is a perfectly good fountain but He didn't drink from it til a good 8 days in & still kept going to sink for water, so it wasn't the best pick for him. Doesn't mean it won't b best pick for others, but my guy's preference is the catit flower fountain with the yellow middle pc. removed. That's the flow he seems most attracted to of the 3 wonderful options. Pros would b.. affordable, compact, height is good for comfortable drinking, 3 different flow options (all gentle but just right so not to scare them), super quiet, only clean, fresh, hair & debris free water available to your pet. Easy fill & clean. Sturdy & not something they can tip over. Takes up little space. No mess. Only cons so far r filters must b ordered (not sold locally) & cost a little more than drinkwell filters (Amazon prices). They aren't super clear about which filters u can use but the water softener 1's fit & so do regular catit (blue) fountain 1's (identical fountain to flower fountain only its blue not green & has no flower spout). According to the co., the more expensive 2pk water softening filters last longer than the regular 3 pk catit 1's, but I've read customer reviews saying 3 pk regular r fine. I suppose if u have hard water, the softener type would b beneficial for u. Overall I'm happy. I wanted my cat to drink more & preferably from fountain instead of waiting at sink. So far, this is the winner for that goal. Update: been almost 2 yrs & still works like a champ. The key is cleaning it wkly (for 1 cat), ck'ing it has enuf water often so pump doesn't run dry & die.. & every 30 days or so, take pump apart (vids on youtube to help, easy) & clean every nook & cranny. Pretty easy actually. Slime will build up if u don't clean pump inside & out & water won't b clean. Build up can eventually kill your pump too, so keep it clean. This is the recipe for a healthy, clean pet drinking fountain & a long living pump. My cleaning kit consists of a 2 pc bottle & straw brush (walmart $2-$3), a bounty paper towel & orig dawn dish soap. Easy peasy. I use catit senses filters (if u don't have hard water) & rinse very well each wk. If they feel gross, boil in hot water. Will eventually get flimsy & need to b replaced but u get a lot of life out of each filter if u maintain your fountain & pump & clean filter. Follow these steps for a clean fountain & a pump that runs for a long time. Ppl complaining about pump dying r not following these simple steps. I still 100% recommend this fountain after almost 2 yrs of happy kitty use. If I needed another someday, I'd buy this exact 1 again. I love it. ... show more

It's really cute and my family and friends have complemented the fountain when they see it. Even though it's plastic, it stays pretty clean thanks to the way it's built. The way it works is that the filter goes underneath the internal green surface under the flower so any water that goes back into the bucket is cat hair and food free. This keeps the motor running smoothly since there is no worry about food/cat hair clogging it up. It does still need to be cleaned periodically though since the usual slime that builds up in any bowl or fountain is still apparent. I've noticed that after a two or so weeks, there appears to be some sort of foam that builds up in the little pool that exists on the side (where the water goes back down). Rinsing off the filter works well enough to remedy that for another few weeks. I only change the filter once it gets to the point where the rate of the water draining is so slow that you can see the water building up to the emergency drain line even though the fountain isn't that full. My cat loves this fountain and drinks from it all the time. You can choose to use just the flat surface so water does a soft flow over the surface being draining back down, making it so a little bubbler occurs that they can drink from, or with the flower, it makes 5 little streams of falling water. The noise level depends on where you put it. I have it in the corner and on tile floor so the noise is a bit louder but not to an annoying degree. It's more of a muted buzzing sound. Out of the corner and on a surface that isn't tile, it's extremely quiet. The water level also determines the loudness of the motor - the less water, the louder it is for obvious reasons. The reason I had bought this fountain was because I noticed my cat was barely drinking any water. At first she was little afraid of it but was also super intrigued and did the usual sniff, back off, sniff, lick, back off dance. After a few minutes she started drinking greedily from it and continues to do so (yay!). I have had other fountains before but I chose this one over other fountains because it was easy to clean and because it promised that it would keep out anything that wasn't water from the pool which meant the water she drank was always guaranteed to be clean and the motor wouldn't clog. This I promise is completely true, as long as you use a filter. The only negative is the filters are a little pricey and third-party filters (like the one I'm currently using) aren't as high quality. The third-party one I bought has it so Instead of the yellow or black area filling up the entire quarter of the circle, it's more like a little square piece that's within that quarter, held together by the plastic underneath and the white filter material on the top. ... show more
