  • Awesome Value!
*First thing first* when using this attenuator with its volume at max, your amp volume output will be reduced by approximately 1/2. I use this to run my tube amp head straight into the PA, without a speaker cabinet. I also use it with my speaker cabinet for practice, so it's not blasting loud. I've never compared it to a RockRec or anything else (you can find plenty of videos on YouTube of comparisons). But for the price, I'm very happy with it's performance. ... show more

  • Bring your tube amp to life
When I received my Bugera PS1 I was immediately impressed with the build quality – a rugged, well-ventilated case with a solid base and rubberized feet. Although the soak control has a physical scratchy feel, it is not heard through in the speaker output. I connected the unit as instructed to my Line 6 Bogner Spider Valve 112 MKII loaded with a Celestion V30. Normally, I get my low volume distortion/gain sounds using the preamp modeling and one of the built-in overdrive stomp functions – this “works” but doesn't seem not to have the same soul of this amp when turn up – this preamp tone is always kind of a muffled, a meh tone (not bad but not great). Once I added the Bugera PS1, the amp came to life at any volume. I can blend the sweet but meaty Bogner output with the modeled preamp gain and finally hear the full potential of the amp at any volume. Similar improvements can be heard to the clean sounds. There is a slight tone change when the Bugera PS1 is engaged – nothing that can’t be fixed with a few adjustments to the amp tone controls. I believe the tone change is mainly due to the speaker's low volume response curve. I also tried the unit with my Peavey VK212 with similar results. Yes this unit does get a bit warm (this is normal). I did not test the line out function as I have always preferred a mic’d speaker over emulated speaker line outputs. The speaker output is ideal for recording and bedroom practicing. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone looking to get the most out of their tube amplifier and maintain volume control. ... show more

  • Way better than expected
With all the smack that gets said about “passive” ie non-reactive load boxes I was plenty surprised to find out how well this cheapest of them all works! I’m as picky as can be and also own a Rivera rock crusher which I’d used on various old Marshall amps and currently on a Randall rd45 which doesn’t strictly need it but since I can bypass it with the flip of a switch I frequently prefer the slight taming of highs and excessive bottom end . Similarly I bought this one for an amp I hated and returned before this unit even arrived (Marshall dsl20h) and bought what turned out to be the amp of my dreams (Suhr PT15) which certainly goes not strictly need this either. The amp does have a wake up jump at very low settings of the master v however, below which it “goes to sleep” and sounding very dull and flat so for very, very low volume night time jamming this thing seems to act just like a perfect second master volume with no glaring loss of good tone beyond what your own hearing does at very low volume. My Suhr amp has enough bite and deep bass on reserve to easily compensate anyway. But I played loud too and even substantial attention still to my surprise doesn’t substantially crap up the amp tone. The only feature this unit lacks that it desperately needs is a bypass switch and the designers should really incorporate that and this thing for a fraction of the cost of anything else would rule the world. This unit attenuates even at full up which I do find odd. But In fact I’m now questioning just exactly how much of a reactive load said units actually provide ie what kind of impedance swing do they actually provide? And how similar is it to a real speaker? Not to mention how much of an impedance swing does a 16ohm guitar speaker present to a guitar amp anyway? I should also say blasting a 100+w amp full up into this is certainly a recipe for disappointment at best. I use it the way you should- setting the amp at the lowest volume that produces its best sound and dialing down from there. And granted I’m using a 15 watt amp although the biggest, fullest, loudest, crunchiest most expressive, most versatile one I’ve ever owned or played. And an amp that like most modern amps gets 90% of it’s tone from the preamp and does not rely on an overloaded power section. I’d say try this first and keep an open mind. ... show more

  • Excellent passive devise to deliver proper line level or mic levels for direct recording
I have a 1975 Peavy Musician 400 amp head that can pump out 200W of power that I recently refurbished and it works great. It is all discreet solid state components. I needed a passive device that would attenuate the amp head output to feed directly to interface to a recording box that interfaces to my laptop recording software. The Power Soak PS-1 did the trick! It has adjustable Line level output and Mic level output that interfaced with the correct input levels to my recording box interface and the recordings I am making are HIGH quality audio. With the amp head feeding directly into the recording box you get a clean record. If you used a mic to the guitar speaker you would pick up whatever sound in your studio. With this I only get my guitar and it is a high quality recording. I can adjust my amp volume to where I need it for best performance and then using the PS-1 I can set the volume to the guitar speaker cabinet to desired easy listening level without the concert volume the amp is set to. Great device. Works exactly as I needed for my guitar recordings. ... show more
