Features

  • Backcountry Irons new 12 inch smooth cast iron heirloom takes inspiration from the classic hand-me-downs of old like the legendary polished cast iron pans made by Wagner and Griswold. Wasatch skillets seek to recapture the former glory of vintage cast iron in the modern day. The machined cooking surface and sides paired with a timeless design create a unique skillet that will leave you speechless. This skillet has a 12 inch diameter, measures 12.50 inches spout to spout, and has a 4.75 inch handle.
  • Smooth cast iron provides a more uniform cooking surface that holds an excellent seasoning. Easy release properties keep food from sticking, and creates a better sear with exceptional browning similar to enameled cast iron. This skillet is great for steaks, one pan meals to feed the whole family or making enough cornbread to feed the neighborhood!
  • Our Wasatch cast iron skillets have a glossy cooking surface that can be used with electric, induction or gas stovetops. Toss it in the oven, and even place it on campfires like an outdoorsman. It will retain heat longer and more evenly than other cast iron skillets.
  • Wasatch pans are quadruple seasoned with vegetable and grape seed oil, giving it that signature bronze coloring. Cast iron can rust so keep it out of the dishwasher, do not soak overnight, or air dry. Use warm water and scrape off any stuck food with a flat utensil. You can also lightly polish the cooking surface with a stainless steel chainmail scrubber for a smooth patina. Wipe dry immediately after cleaning, and apply a new layer of oil to protect from rust.
  • Our heavyweight cast iron skillets are perfect for searing, browning, braising, roasting, or frying meals and gravies alike.

Description

Backcountry Iron’s 12 inch Wasatch skillet is oven safe with a smooth polished cooking surface. Our heavy weight cast iron offers better heat retention than other skillets. Reclaiming the old world glory of polished cast iron, Wasatch skillets are based on the pans of yesteryear like Griswold and Wagner. These smooth cast iron pans will be constant companions from the kitchen, to camping in the wilderness. Pass them on to your children and grandchildren for their adventures. Our team carried over the useability of our standard cookware while adding more features to create a pan worth the hype. We’ve milled the cooking surface, incorporated a deep heat ring, and added hefty handles for easy lifting. We think they turned out great! Compared to brands like Le Creuset, Staub, Field, Smithey, Finex, and Stargazer cast iron skillets and pans.

  • Good quality
Size: 10 Inch
Great quality, but the polish seems to be more of a gimmick than functional. Very pretty when it comes out of box, but does not maintain the same polished look after using.

  • Perfect for Single Potato Hashbrowns
Size: 8 Inch
I bought this in error trying to get a 10 inch skillet. But kept it. It solved a big problem I have. I overload my oven burners with a 12 inch skillet for bacon (bacon long) and sausage, a stainless steel skillet for eggs and then I was using a 10" cast iron (Stargazer) for hash browns, but every skillet had to be off-center in order to fit on the range. Then I started using this little guy for hashbrowns (single potato) and man everything fits like a glove now. It holds heat good, doesn't burn or singe, and it's cooking surface is superior to Lodge (my favorite). Thanks! ... show more

  • I like this pan!
Size: 12 Inch
Nice smooth finish on the cooking surface. It came seasoned, but I did my own before using. Perfect size, but wish the handle was a little longer. It's a heavy pan, be ready for that when picking up. I'd buy it again and would recommend it. Half the price of the Instagram pans, so it's a deal!

  • Always oil immediately after cleaning
Size: 12 Inch
This is by far the best cast iron skillet I've used. I wish my first meal had been something under a slightly lower temp to break it in a little slower, but I have since used it many times and the cooking gets better each time. Note - oiling the skillet after cleaning is an absolute must as rust will occur almost immediately from any sitting water. ... show more

  • A bit heavy, but works GREAT!
Size: 8 Inch
I reseasoned with grape seed oil, then cooked eggs in the pan next day… no sticking at all. Works great. Only downside I can see/feel, is that it weighs more than other good cast iron skillets that I have, for its size. Maybe handle could be less thick? More comfortable to hold then. Cleaned up easily. Nice pan. ... show more

  • I have the 8 and 12. I recommend the 10
Size: 12 Inch
This was the brand I chose when I decided to be “cast iron guy”. But Because I’m an idiot, I bought the 12 thinking “I’ll get the biggest one and be done with it If you’re single, don’t do that. The 12 is too much. It takes forever to get to temp and you will never use it like you think you will. I haven’t used mine in 6 months easy The 8 is everything I thought the 12 would be for me. I love this thing. But if I’m being honest The 10 would have been the prefect pan. Just my 2cents ... show more

  • Chinese knock-off
Size: 8 Inch
This pan is meant to resemble other high-end American-made cast iron pans but is really just a poor Chinese copy. The pan is made in China and the casting is extremely poor. The outside casting is very rough. The interior is machined smooth but there were pinhole voids from the poor casting. Also, the inside lip isn't machined all the way leaving a rough ring around the entire interior. There were also nicks along the top edge and handle. This is just an overpriced mass producuced Chinese copy of a Stargazer skillet. For almost the same money you can get the real thing. Don't buy this ... show more
