Man this is a cool light. Whether or not you work on cars for a living, this tool is a blessing in the shape of a light saber. It will save so much head ache of trying to position your small lights in such a way that you can see what you're doing, while not holding a light, and cussing when your light falls in to the abyss of the crowded engine bay. I do fix cars for a living, and also I am a flashlight snob. I have lots of lights. From streamlights to magnetic lights, and flexible magnetic lights I can position and point as my heart desires. Not being able to see makes my day worse, so anything that decreases frustration is a win. I have used other lights like this in the past. But ultimately they become not worth the effort, because you end up using your flashlight half the time anyway. This light is bright enough that your flashlights can take a break, have a beer, and watch you get frustrated at other things. You will still occasionally need to use an additional light even with this light. Let's be honest. A broad light like this is great, but even one as bright as this, cannot reach every nook and cranny. Those deep dark holes in the engine bay will still require an extra light sometimes. The light is so bright that even when I use this in my garage, I don't require any other overhead lights. Looking under the hood of the car, at night with no garage light on, the engine bay looks like daytime. Yes that's right. Daytime under the hood, beer 30 outside. 2000 lumens is quite a few lumens. Snap On sells some bright flood lights that are noticeably brighter than this one, but they don't mount to the hood like this one. I eventually sold my 2500 lumen BluePoint light because it was too much of a pain to position it and mount it under a hood. No longer will I suffer in the darkness. This light is bulky, and you will bump your head in to it. But that's mainly when you're laying or sitting in the bay of some big a$$ truck, or working on some stupid Nissan where the hood only opens 3 inches. It is no more bulky than other under hood lights like this. The light tube does twist some so you can point the light more towards the front or the back of the engine. Not a lot though. Maybe a few degrees. There is not much movement, but that's ok because the spread of light is big enough to cover even large engine bays. As others stated the way the cord plugs in to the light makes it somewhat fragile. It could stand to be more protected, or even beefed up. But it really depends on how you treat your tools. I always drape the cord over the top of the hood and behind the car's mirror to keep it out of the way so it doesn't accidentally get yanked. But even when it does, if you have it set like this, it will usually pull the cord from the wall rather than your tool. Also storing the light in a way that protects the cord, or just unplugging it from the light when not in use will help prevent breakage. So I think I have covered everything except battery life. With the battery fully charged, the light will last almost exactly 1.5 hours on high. I timed it the first couple uses. On the low setting you can expect about twice that. As the battery gets close to dead, the light will only slightly dim. In fact it's so slight that you probably won't even notice the difference until you plug it in the wall. When the battery reaches a certain voltage, it just shuts off completely. I mainly only used it on battery power to test the battery life. Normally when I am using it I just keep it plugged in. Even with a dead battery, you can use it plugged in to the wall. It doesn't really charge when it's in use and plugged in though. Well it does, but it's not like a cell phone. The light uses basically all the juice to operate (on high at least) so it will never really charge up when the light is turned on. I never even use the light on the low setting. The high setting is perfect if you have an outlet handy. If you're on the side of the road or something with no access to electricity, then yeah I could see using the low setting to save battery life. This light is what I've been missing ever since I started working on my car. I do most of my work at night, when it has cooled off some in hot Texas, and also because I work a late shift. I am always wearing a headlamp to do my work. The shop I take my car to uses this light, and after seeing how bright it was I decided I had to have one for working in my not-so-well-lit garage. This thing is BRIGHT! Not only that, but super versitile! It can run off of its battery, or you can leave it plugged in while using it. It's fantastic. The other night I was able to help fix a neighbor's car outside by just disconnecting the plug and carrying it over to their car. It is very lightweight and the "bulb" area never gets not, so you don't have to worry about burning your hands when moving it around. The only part that gets a bit hot is where the power cable plugs in. Two settings, bright and super bright! Attached are some pictures of how stinkin' bright this light is while working on my car recently in the garage. No flash or anything like that, just the light from this light are in these pictures. If you're considering a work light like this, trust me, JUST GET IT ... show more

This thing is wickedly bright at 2000 lumens. It has a switch with 2 modes of brightness (low, high). Low being 1000 lumens and a high of 2000 lumens. This light works either plugged in or just on battery. The power cable appears to be somewhat proprietary so be sure to not lose it! On low, I was able to get just under 3 hours of light which is about what it is speced at. I am just a hobbyist mechanic and by no means use this every day. But the times I do need to use it, it's an amazing addition for lighting. I have used a number of magnetic, swivel, folding, battery powered lights and this has a number of benefits. The first is that you don't have to move it around all the time. Because it gives out a nice amount of light, it covers pretty much anything you want to see. You will definitely bump your head on it a few times, but it's only plastic and shouldn't hurt as bad as hitting your head on a nice piece of steel on the chassis. The color of the light looks to be around 6000K which is a nice bright white. This really helps when needing to make sure the wire colors you spent an hour hunting down are the correct color. Another nice thing about this light is that you can rotate it to get any angle you need with the light. The extending ends have a nice rubber coating which will help to protect the hood from any scratches. Overall, this light has been a night and day (see what I did there? haha) addition to the garage. If you're already looking at this, you are probably working in a nice dark cave like myself. Do yourself a favor and get the light that really does help make life easier. If you have a problem convincing the significant other of the purchase, just tell them you got a lightsaber for the kids. Can thank me later. The non-extended length is about 56 inches. ... show more

    • Battery no longer holds a charge
I didn't use this light that much and when I did at first my car was in the garage near an outlet so I just left it plugged in. Then one time (maybe my fourth time using it) I unplugged it to use in a car in my driveway and found out it will not turn on without being plugged in. It definitely worked cordless when I first got it because I tested it. If I press the button to check the battery it says it's fully charged, but if it's on and plugged in it will turn off as soon as I unplug it. I bought in April 2019 and I noticed this a while back but kept forgetting to check the warranty period. Now that I know it's only 1 year I will have to only use with the cord, which I can probably deal with but still disappointing. A new battery cost $60 which is half the price of the light itself so I'm not buying one just to see if that's the problem. ... show more
