  • Good scope for the price
Style: Traditional stand-AD407
This is a really good scope for the price point. It has already paid for itself 3 times over. Helps me make good solid joints on Switch consoles and other small micro soldering applications. Definitely worth a buy if you don't already have a really expensive one. Or if you are a hobbyist.

  • Great quality. Horrible build. Solution in review
Style: Traditional stand-AD407
It's crazy that for a $200 people have to buy more stuff and modify the product so that it can serve it's purpose. The title clearly indicates that this is good for Board repair. However, as many people have mentioned, the design makes it so that you are not really able to focus on the whole board if it is a regular laptop board. A possible solution in the pictures: 1) You will need a monitor stand (or something that can elevate the microscope) and a hex key 2) The idea is to flip the orientation of the microscope so that it is facing the outside of the mount (See pics 1 and 2) 3) Because the weight will be all on the edge, you will need some weight on the other side (I put some small rocks). You could also tape it or screw it to the stand. 4) The light connector is a little bit on the way of the microscope, but there is still room for the scope to go down (see picture 3) 5) All you have to do for this mod is to unscrew the two screws that hold down the microscope base (see picture 4), flip the mount, and screw it back in. ... show more

  • Great value and twice as nice with a $11.40 wide-angle/macro lens upgrade
Style: Traditional stand-AD407
After months of agonizing over not having a better microscope and being unable to justify dropping over $600 on a higher-end interchangeable-lens/autofocus camera setup + a Barlow lens, I decided to buy this as it seemed to tick all the boxes for my needs a few of my wants. Overall, I was impressed with the picture quality, but part of me still missed the high-end optics and auto-focus. Then, thanks to another reviewer (props RCJad!), I decided to add the Xit XT30WAB 30mm 0.43X Wide Angle Lens ($11.40 on Amazon) and it's made the AD407 so much better. The XT30WAB lens brings a slightly wider to see more of the PCB and it has a Depth-of-Field (DoF) of approximately 1 inch/25 mm, making PCB requiring far less refocusing while you work! Now, I can see the PCB *and* my tools, tall components, etc. while I work. Now I can tilt a PCB to inspect it WITHOUT constantly refocusing or shifting the board up and down. I'd still love to have autofocus, but with this DoF, I don't really need/miss it most of the time. (Andonstar - You need to sell these or similar as your own so buyers don't have to research them on their own.) Keep in mind, even with the additional lens, the AD407 isn't going to compete for with a $600+ microscope with interchangeable lenses, a larger/taller stand and a camera with autofocus, but this is half the cost, a great formfactor for a workbench, has a very nice display built-in and it works really well for all but really large PCBs. Just get a wide-angle/macro lens and you'll enjoy it a whole lot more. Note: There are also mods that people do mount these cameras to microphone stands/arms to allow you to raise them higher or work on larger PCBs (large motherboards, arcade PCBs, retro computer repair, etc.). It does require some rewiring of the LED lights, however. ... show more

  • It will be my work horse.
Style: Traditional stand-AD407
I think this is the best electronic microscope in this price range. The microscope side is perfect, the holder of the microscope: cheap and is not much flexible - can be improved by 3D printing or use microphone or lamp holder. Overall, satisfied.

  • Great scope, horrible stand.
Style: Traditional stand-AD407
First: the screen and microscope are great. The controls might be slightly obtuse but it's good quality, low latency, and everything (including HDMI output - pair this with a BlueAVS capture card) works as intended. However, the stand sucks. It really sucks. It's not unusable per se, but it definitely gets in the way and doesn't work very well at all, and even if it did, it doesn't allow the microscope/screen assembly to raise high enough for less-micro work. The gooseneck LEDS are so-so as well. The one star off is for the stand. Get this, and when you're ready to upgrade away from the stand, mount this thing onto a mic arm and get a microscope ring light to go with it. It's way more useful and usable this way. Unfortunately there are no mounting holes; I chose to 3D print a mount and 5 min epoxy it to the back. If there were at least some sort of mounting holes on the back, I would've given this 5 stars. You can probably 3D print/mill/whatever a ring mount that secures it to the mic arm the same way as the old stand as well. Figure something out, because it's worth it to get it off the old stand. ... show more

  • Does the job

If you are looking for a wide angle lens for it, and you find one advertised as working for the ADSM302 it will work on this.

  • Sharp images, but I wish it would go wider
Style: Traditional stand-AD407
I bought this mostly for SMD soldering. The image quality is super sharp (that's a deer tick there, except for its head which, well, came off in the process). But I wish I could raise the camera higher off the platform so as to get a wider view, and it would also be nice to be able to tilt the camera to the side. Still, after a bunch of SMD soldering I was pretty happy with the experience and the lack of eyestrain. ... show more
